I think CJ does get at times a little hyperfocused on scoring, he admitted he needed to get better at it.
The problem with Portland's "role players" is there is no movement, way to much standing around waiting for Dame and CJ to do something special. Yes GS has incredible talent, but what I still don't understand is why teams don't cut, set screens off the ball going towards the hoop, like they do. Portland's "assist" problem is that almost all the assists are to jump shots mostly 3's, and there isn't a whole lot of attacking the basket from the role players. Now the topic of NO, well he drives me nuts, he's all over the place, he reminds me of the sales people I met when I bought my first car as a 18 year old. Moe wasn't getting the ball because he'd go stand in the corner. Wasn't because Dame was being a ball hog. NO needs to get players who are going to be good targets, for Dame, who are going to attack and not stand and watch.
Though I will admit I feel like this was the 1st year Dame visibly got frustrated by his teammates, it seemed like there were games where he stopped passing and did the Hero Ball thing, because passing wasn't working.
This sounds to me like the problem is coaching, not the role players or the ballhogs.

The problem we have isn't Dame or CJ or Stotts….it's turnovers from bad passes....you pass into traffic and give up possessions, you'll probably start hesitating to pass or thread the needle next time down the court...we just are not a great passing team....this is an area where a Kevin Love helps you...Mason Plumlee was another excellent passer...a lot of that is youth on the roster...Nurk could become a great passer but he also will hesitate after a turnover from a lazy pass....we should bring somebody like Rod Strickland, Jason Kidd or Steve Nash in to work with the guys on this....Stotts got coach of the month a few times this season...you don't get that by regressing and he was the offensive coordinator for Dallas...Rick was a defensive minded head coach.
Then bring someone in who can coach passing and spends a week doing it.

Gentry was as shocked as Stotts at how that series went...his team just clicked...couldn't miss a shot for 4 straight games..we couldn't make one..that's the story
excuse after excuse, I like you man but have to say you make excuse after excuse - what will it take to change your tune? I'm not trying to start a fight and we all have our opinions but dang what does it take?

Fuck Neil "we look for playoff Veterans and we have the biggest trade exception in the League" Olshit . I wanna see this Thread burn!!!
I'm going to keep saying it until July 25th: We still have the Trade Exception.

Don't confuse excuse with opinion ….I approach each season the same...I'm not quick to throw the team under the bus just to echo the popular slant...I just simply don't have the complaints you guys go on and on about....call it board parity..you've got lots of support for your opinions...find comfort in that and then just try to understand I like the franchise these days...and live with the fact that this team isn't a finished product by any stretch but it has played well enough in the west to keep my interest....wasn't so optimistic last Dec....2nd half of the season I saw what they were trying to build. I'm not going to view the team as stuck in basketball hell just because it's the trend around here. Basketball hell was Raymond Felton and Luke Babbitt with no GM in place

What's annoying is we couldn't get to the rim which last year. We shot way too many jumpers, and would go on extended droughts because we couldn't get anything at the rim, except for Ed Davis put backs.

So this moron of a GM wants to shoot MORE jumpers. Wow. The fact that they think the problem in the post-season was a "spacing" issue is ridiculous. There were many issues, and they didn't address any.

Garbage GMing. It's obvious he just tried to get the best 3pt shooters without giving a fuck about anything else. He literally can't focus on more than one or two traits in a player or team. He's a moron.

When you have really good 3 pt shooters the defense will not be able to double Dame and CJ thus letting one of them get to the rim or kick out to Curry or Stauskas….different from kicking out to Chief or ET or Pat C......more shooters on the perimeter means more open lanes. Curry can make hard cuts and actually so can Stauskas...both finish strong around the basket...I don't see the upgrade as a weakness..Swanigan is pretty good at rebounding...if our bigs set good screens, the guards will have twice the options we had last season on offense ...the Warriors have made a living having 3pt shooters all across the roster...you want to beat them you better make a lot of shots..to me this is where the game is at.....Cleveland didn't have the shooting to hang with Golden State.

Buddy, Stauskas 3pt shooting doesn't come close to making up for all the other parts of his game. Yes, we need shooting, but we need to players that can dribble drive and defend as well.

Stauskas finishes "strong" around the basket? You're making stuff up dude. He shot 53% from 0-3 feet last year. That's horrible! He shot 37% from 2pt range. We shot wayyyyy too many jumpshots last year and now, apparently, thats all we want to do. Good teams will run us off the line, and if we have a cold shooting night, we'll lose to anyody, no matter how bad they are. The Warriors had 3pt shooters that could defend, had a mid-range game (Stauskas doesn't), and could get to the rim well. We didn't replicate that with Nik freakin' Stauskas and Meyers frickin' Leonard.

If you want to beat Golden State, you need long, versatile defenders that can switch screens. You need many other aspects than 3pt shooting.

You think Cleveland's shooting was the trouble? All the acquired was shooters, much like us, and LeBron even admitted as such to Magic.

nowhere did I say he was an elite defender....but I did say he has more than one skill which you seem to claim....you're welcome to that...make a video about it....you weren't too harsh on Curry and he's not an elite defender either....plus defense is a team skill more than individual skill ...you're in shape and have court vision you can play defense on a string...that's coaching more than anything.

Does this fool not realize that the playoffs are an entirely different type of basketball? Its an entirely different game. So the basketball played in those 82 games doesnt always translate. Its very easy to take away 1-2 guys in the playoffs, especially on a team that doesnt move the ball.

And, by using his logic, I could counter with this: We should base the team off a 69-game sample size, as it's bigger than a 13-game sample size.

Why call someone a 'fool'? This is certainly not going to sway him to your way of thinking.

Ok I’m sorry if this reignites a fight but I just got out of the gym and I worked the rest of the day so I just heard the NO press conference. Did he seriously say he told ED to sign in Brooklyn, and say Ed was basically the problem against the Pelicans Dear lord, what the heck is this dude on...
For not saying a whole lot, he said a whole lot of stupid in that little presser. I hope he uses that trade exception.

What's his other skill? Finishing strong isn't a akill, he shoots 53% on layups.

Plus defense is as much a product of individuals as a group. You gotta have awareness and IQ.

watch video.....I did. I posted a few...I've already posted my thoughts on his game above. you don't like him...then don't...he's way better than Pat
He's not better than Pat, and advanced stats back that up.

What's his other skill?

Not stats that reflect his place in Stotts offense...or his role. Pat played one season of rotation minutes...defenses left him wide open..he didn't make them cover him for good reason...Stauskas played in different systems with different roles....like Ed Davis game with the Grizz or Lakers can't compare to his game with the Blazers...there are many intangibles that aren't reflected in stat sheets..it's about fit...something Evan Turner has struggled with yet he thrived in Boston.

My issue with the Stauskus signing was all about the timing more than the player, they let Ed go and it was opening night of free agency and the Blazers apparently targeted him hard... him or Pat as the bench guy is so “who cares” to me it’s a little funny you guys are arguing about it.

posters often fail to remember that 3 of the 4 games were either teams game with 3 minutes or less to go. I believe we were never down by more than 3 and sometimes up at that stage. Not excuses, but a bounce or two the other way and it could have been 3 out of 4 wins. It unfortunately didn't happen, we got swept and I move on but I find it funny that a few in here now think that's the way every game will go against the Pelicans where as I look at it that the next season can be different.
