I'm sorry Martell, can you forgive me?

Webster has played well the last week or so, but I still think Batum is a better overall player. As I said in the other Webster thread......Both are a lot better than Outlaw.
Well, Dante > Travis, so yeah. :pimp:

I was thinking during the game last night about starting a thread asking when people were going to start giving Martell some credit. The time is now apparently. When the guy can have an off shooting night and still get kudos in here, he just may have finally arrived. I don't ever expect him to be an all star, but he really does contribute in other ways. When he's also shooting decent, the Nico/Martell tandem looks pretty good to me.

Doesn't Martell (or didn't he used to) go down to LA in the summers to work out with Kobe? I remember hearing that years ago. Did Kobe say anything about the job Martell did on him last night? I couldn't find anything.
Martell has gone down to work out with Kobe in the summer. Kobe also gave Martell his shoes from the game he scored 81 against the Raptors.
I did not hear anything in Kobe's interview regarding Martell.

I am not going to jump on his bandwagon yet. I have never been impressed with Martell's game. Has he played well these last few games? Yes. I will hold out until the end of the season to see if he becomes that consistent player he is supposed to be. Then I will hop on.

Some believer you are.

I had no doubt Martell had it in him. People have no idea how hard it is to come straight outta high school. They think just because a player does so, their automatically supposed to be great. Truth is NBA is the hardest place to develop. Besides the foot injury I'd say Martell is right on track

Great stretch of games from Webster. The question is whether it is a young player putting it together long-term, or just a nice stretch from an inconsistent player.

It would be fantastic if Webster became a good/very good player. It's way too early, though, to act as if it has happened.

That's Martell going all MJ Con Man . . . "I'm you're friend Kobe . . . no I'm not! I'm an assasin!"

Jeff Van Gundy would be proud.

"coming out parties" have almost immediately led to major injuries. Get your lucky rabbit's foot out.

Webster played very well last night. But it wasn't his D that caused every one of Kobe's misses. Bryant missed many wide open looks all on his own... it wasn't his night.

BULL. SHIT.

I won a bet on if Webster would average at least 10 points a game two seasons ago against BlazerBeliever so you won't hear him complimenting Webster any time soon. :)

You got that right! That's why I said if he does this CONSISTENTLY the rest of the year I will finally jump on his bandwagon.

I was getting really tired of people bringing up his PER in past years and claiming he hadn't improved in his first 3 years in the league.
is it people or facts that you are annoyed by?

11.4 career PER, 12.2 this year PER... Average NBA starter 15.0 PER
Very happy to see Martell making huge strides...
he was at his career PER average again this year just last week... don't blink
and getting his respect from people who completely gave up on him as a 22 year old.
your melodramatics are pretty over the top... everyone is rooting for the kid. Some posters aren't willing to put the cart before the horse especially after giving MW ample time to prove himself. Lets see how the rest of the season shakes out before claiming he has turned a page

So let me ask all ya'll, Martell isn't the answer after tonight's 1-4 start, right? :dunno:

The old Martell resurfacing this game. Bricking wide open 3's

One bad game, and the game isn't even over, and already back to normal posts.

Martell's awesome D couldn't have been on LeBron as he tore up the Blazers going 13-19 for 41 points... he must have somehow still been guarding Kobe who went 4-21

Nope, he was guarding LBJ. And did a decent job of it--especially in the second half. In the first they seemed not to know how to either defend the P&R or not know that he runs pretty fast down the court for layups.

And as someone said...not once was he laid on his back when he drove. Whaddaya gonna do when a guy's on fire?

are you joking? Dude was torched on national tele. 41 points, 13-19, nearly a triple double... in the 2nd half they came with the automatic double team and James racked up the assists while on the other end MW clanged away throughout the game.

There was nothing decent about his performance tonight

We'll agree to disagree on this one. It's going to be tough to argue rationally with incorrect generalizations.

I think he probably tried to defend him the same way he defended Kobe. But the two are very different players.

Martell physically can't defend LeBron. He's not as long, strong, quick, fast or athletic. In fact, when James is as focused as he was last night, I wonder who can defend him?

Webs has had some nice games. They've coincided with him not having to look over his shoulder. In other words, when you remove Martell's head from his game, he's a fine player.
