No, Sly, nobody is coming after your canine handle. But, according to Part 3 of Quick's series on the rebuilding of Iron Man, Wes is pissed at the Blazers:

When free agency arrived July 1, Wesley Matthews waited for an offer from the Trail Blazers.

He had hoped he could return to the city that had embraced him, to the team with players he considered brothers, to the franchise where he grew into one of the NBA's most well-rounded and respected shooting guards.

But in the end, after five seasons, the feeling was not mutual. He was greeted with silence. No phone call. No text messages. The Blazers never made an offer.

"I was pissed off," Matthews said. "I felt disrespected."

---

On July 30, he will fly to Los Angeles for a checkup with Dr. Richard Ferkel. After that, Matthews comes back to Portland to see former Blazers teammate Meyers Leonard.

"The Big Dummy is getting married," Matthews said.

He says he doesn't know how it will feel when he touches down in the city where he played so hard and was embraced even harder. But when the NBA schedule comes out in August, rest assured he will circle the games against Portland.

Four times, he points out, the Blazers will play Dallas. Four times, he vows, a tenacious competitor awaits.

"And now, I have a complete franchise backing me," Matthews says. "Imagine what kind of dog I will be now."

As if the franchise and city wasn't fully behind him while he was here - trying to motivate himself is fine, but no need to act like you weren't treated well while here.

He says it's not all about the money, a fact underlined by his recruitment of free agent center DeAndre Jordan, who was waffling between the Mavericks and staying with the Los Angeles Clippers. If Jordan signed with Dallas, his deal would reduce the amount of money the Mavericks could give Matthews by $4 million a season. If Jordan stayed in Los Angeles, Matthews would get the max.

"I was honest with him," Matthews said. "I said, 'Look man, I would make less money if you come here and I'm begging you to come here. Begging you. I think that shows what I'm about.'"

Wonder how much begging he did to get LA to stay...

I don't think it has anything to do with how he was treated while he was here. It's the fact that the Blazers didn't reach out to him as a free agent this summer.

That was my thought too. I wonder if the Blazers had re-signed Wes, if he would have been instrumental in re-signing LA. Water under the bridge now.

We all know that Wes uses every opportunity to give himself a chip on the shoulder to use as a motivation. Given that the Blazers are going to suck this year anyway, I'm not sure how much difference a motivated Wes makes in the outcome of those 4 games.

Olshey said in a presser that both Matthews and RoLo were told they were a package deal with Aldridge. If LA goes they were not coming back. No reason to reach out to Matthews

That's not how it reads at all - he's trying to motivate himself by posing as a victim. "Think I was good before, imagine what kind of dog I'll be now." I like his fight, but he's become a bit delusional.

Hold the presses, something does not smell right here.

Before Olshey was able to contact Wes about an extension, I seem to remember an interview or two he did where he implied he would not be playing for the Blazers again.

Or is my old memory still hanging in the closet this morning.

Yeah, and I think it was the right way of looking at it by Olshey. Re-signing Matthews and RoLo would just keep the Blazers in the competition for a lower tier playoff berth. The rebuild was the way to go.

He's an injured dog, a delusional dog. I worry that he'll become a realist dog, and a complacent one at that.

Hopefully, I'm wrong and he has a long, healthy career, but right now, I don't see it.

I appreciate his position, but it would have been grossly incompetent to sign him to that kind of contract, given LMA leaving and his recent injury. I like Wes alot, but he was part of the old team that LMA destroyed. Keeping him would not have worked on several levels.

"In Portland, he'd been the Blazers' heart and soul, but never the star. He had never been entrusted with making the right play in crunch time. He had never been counted on to carry his teammates. Was there a team willing to give him that chance?"

I love that Wes believes in himself. It's what drives him to be better. But I just don't think he can carry a team in crunch time. As a SG he just does not have the handles.

I wish Matthews all the best. Hell, I hope he scores 300 points per game against us.

It's not like we are working on making the playoffs or anything. He's gotta understand we couldn't pay that amount to him, knowing our history with players and injuries. That could get a GM fired.

This.

Not getting a call, or even a token offer has to sting a bit so I get his disdain. But how quickly he forgets that this team made him the highest paid player in his draft class for the duration of all rookie deals. And how quickly he forgets that this team gave him bonus upon bonus to lure him into a contract that was ridiculed around the league.

Love Wes, but he comes off looking a bit petulant here.

could also send fans the direction of hating him rather than the love he still gets from us

To me, it's the same as Dame's reaction to the Team USA people. "You don't want me--fine, I'll show you why you should have." I have no problem with either.

I seem to remember Olshey saying he has something special planned for Lopez, Aldridge and Matthews for their services.

I would like having a rattlesnake in Aldridge's locker, Lopez gets a anime character of him bobble head and Matthews has Tony Stark present him with an Iron Man Appreciation statue.

I love wes. I hope he can separate business decisions and politics from fans. It makes me wonder the way roy left and now wes if maybe paul allen and/or someone on his staff is a dick. But I cant be too mad, he signs the checks not me. Wes said stuff like he wants to take on a bigger roll he could have been talking about for us without aldridge, but at the same time olshey and allen decided to go a different direction.

Dont judge us wes, im pretty sure if it came to fan vote you'd be a blazer

I look at wesleys reaction like a bad break up. I loved her but she moved on anyway, so I have to hate her to help myself move on.

Probably this kind of dog.

Wesley is right to feel disrespected. He was not offered. I'd be pissed too. Olshey confirmed that unless LA re-signed we would not keep Fropez and Wes. I'm pissed about him not being offered. However I think DAL will rue the day they signed him to a max deal.

Do you think he would he have been less insulted if Olshey had offered him a $36M contract when the Kings and Mavs were offering $60M+?

He should have had a sit down before any offer. He never even tried to negotiate...
