We$ finished the season as a starter for Utah his rookie season the year before he joined the blazers. He averaged 37 minutes a game as a starter in 10 playoff games for the Jazz that season. The blazers just paid We$ more money than any other team would at the time. Back when toxic offers were all the rage. Luckily it worked out for the blazers.

Maybe David West had higher offers, the vet minimum sure seems very low for him. But I don't believe that was his plan when he opted out of his contract. I think he thought there would be a more lucrative market for his services and he could get close to the $10 million per year he opted out of, possibly for more years. It was a gamble; and he lost. Then no team wanted to pay him that much and he decided to sign for the minimum. But he didn't expect to be stuck having to take that minimum deal when he opted out. Who knows just my guess but regardless his pay cut is an extremely rare situation for an NBA player; or really any professional in any profession.

That's what put us in such a bad place 5 years ago. We felt compelled to give Roy such a huge contract, even though there were major concerns about his knees. Before that, we used this same philosophy to give Miles and Zach huge contracts that handicapped our organization for many years.

This is a business and you don't take chances on injured players, especially during years where Dame can start peaking. WE$ was part of the Aldridge package because he was built to compliment Aldridge. If Aldridge stayed, then we would have WE$. I am 100% certain of that.

I think the injury (and LMA leaving) is a convenient excuse not to sign him for what he thought he deserved. It was a lot easier (and smarter) than being honest and telling him he is just not worth 15-18 million per year.

Before the injury, what was the consensus on this board that we thought the Blazer's should limit their offer on Wes for? 13 million per ?
