No love for the old Yorgo's on Greeley Ave?

Those burgers were the bomb!

Looks like they do but it's a newer one.

The one in Sweet Home was the old school style with car hops and the trays you stick on your car window.

I grew up, for the most part, in Sweet Home. Went to high school there. A&W was a happening place, and yeah, they had car hops and even ones that skated. I tried really really hard to get one of the car hops (Brenda) to date me, but the only image I have is of her skating away after telling me to buzz off

in the summer, you could swing by the A&W and pick up beverage and food to go (and maybe spike the beverage if you were a bad boy), then drive 10 miles to the Lebanon drive-in. That was a giant party at times...few people watched the movies; there were other things to occupy the time, and hands...yeah, two movies were standard. It's dark...it's a 4 hours of movie distraction....and the hormones and testosterone were running high. Glory days

Go there and every once in awhile. Got in a fight there in my early 20’s with some British guy who was in town at the shipyards on swan island. He spit on me.

Honestly never tried their food. Good beer selection though.

I don’t think it’s been called Yorgos in years.

I lived walking distance to it as a youngster on Curtis and Willamette. Used to walk up to that 7-11 for banana slurpees.

T-Burger at the Twilight Room on Lombard is the shit. If you dig an egg on your burger.

I spent the night once in the Twilight Room. One of the most boring nights of my life but I did hook up with a hot chick.

Two softball teams met up there after playing, I was there with a couple of friends. The softball teams get drunk and then get into a fight in the parking lot. With bats. I didn't know anything was happening until the police showed up. About 6 ambulances. Cops locked everyone inside the bar and we had to wait for detectives to come and take statements. Didn't get out of there until about 5am. Took some guy's gf home who got arrested and we had freaky time. So it wasn't a total waste, lol.

sounds like a typical night in the nutty NoPo.

my parents played for their softball team for years and are friends with the Penners (the owners). It’s a cool little bar.

My girlfriend comes from a huge notoriously nutty family from St Johns. I feel like we go there every couple months for her family get togethers. Or if someone passes away.

I used to go there and meet up friends to take a party bus out to Oktoberfest in Mt Angel back in my party days and remember coming back absolutely trashed and taking a taxi home then passing out in bushes in front of my house. Hahaha god I was dumb as an adolescent.

I remember me and my friend having to spend the night on the ground sleeping under his pickup because we were way too drunk to drive from Oktoberfest in Mt Angel.

They closed down. Their burgers were really good, but I got mad food poisoning once and couldn't go back.
Crazy thing is, up until all this lockdown, they would be open like 2 days a month. Random days and times. Didn’t make sense. There would just be a sign out front all of a sudden saying ,”Open today til 4pm”

where’s the closest A&W? I ate at one in Madras last summer
There's one in Hillsboro near hwy 6 and near Beaverton. I can't remember the street but it goes by both Cosco and Fred Meyer. I believe it's part of a gas station somewhat near Cornell on the East side.
I love A & W. There use to be one in Oswego, later Lake Oswego, which began back in the mid 50s. There was also one in Seaside, now long closed.
There are A & Ws in Albany, Lebanon, Sweet Home and Eugene.
We use to drive to Reno once or twice a year. On the way we would always stop at an A & W in Oakridge. I've seen conflicting reports on whether it's still open for business or not.

I remember when their rootbeer and rootbeer floats were served in a frosty cold glass mug. Then, people started stealing them. I got one from a garage sale when I was in college.

It made me angry when they switched from cane sugar to corn syrup as their sweetener.

11 pages in and no mention of Helvetica. Or Skyline.

Never did stop at Helvetia Tavern as it is way out of my way unless I was heading to the coast but never wanted to stop as getting to the beach was a priority and with Stanich's close by to where I grew up at and near my dads shop never really felt it was a priority.

Neither were that great. Helveticia' hamburgers were too big and too bland.
Skyline was never that good in spite of being wildly popular with the kids around me in NW Portland.
Now, the Carnival at the base of Terwiliger near Duniway park was damn good. Very popular with the doctors and nurses on pill hill. Gene and Joe's on McGlouphlin near Milwaukee was even better. Both of those restaurants had hamburger condiments bars that were to die for. They also both had flame grilled hamburgers where you could watch the flames shoot up. Grilled buns, too.

Yup.

That sounds just like the Harvest House that was near me and just down the street from Normandale Park on Halsey. Loved eating there.

I always went to the A&W at Mall 205 with my grandma. The floor, walls, tables, and swivel chairs were all wood, if I remember correctly. I still have one of the neon green mugs they served root beer floats in.
