I'm going to Portland for Thanksgiving weekend. I'd like to see if anyone wanted to pimp out their favorite local store purveyor. Anything really, from good foods to serve at thanksgiving (any good dessert stores or pie shops? usually go to beaverton bakery)...to things like pens and small leather goods, etc.

Pix over on N Williams has a bunch of good dessert options.

damn, might have to try this out:

Big Cheryl's "Ghetto" Cake

A dense, moist cake with a touch of orange and rum, and filled with pastry cream and mixed berries. There’s nothing “ghetto” about it except for the bad pronunciation of the French word “gâteau!”

Yeah, that place has got desserts nailed.

any good leather goods store. looking for a passport cover, something kind of thin. my drivers license is expiring and I won't get my new one for a while (california takes like 4 weeks to get a replacement one) so gotta keep my passport on me.

Since you are so infatuated with the daddy chicken - the urban farm store is just the ticket.

one of the poasters on a board I run does do that back yard chicken coup thing. pretty interesting stuff.

what's a good store I can buy some sage to burn at the RG? I might try to do it this time around. kind of low key, but when I go to the game burn some sage..like small incense style.

found these online. all look pretty awesome. will probably check out Winn Perry, been looking for a pair of Alden shoes. damn, that Canoe store looks awesome, reminds me of a Muji store.

also dig the Upper playground store and a few of the other nike/shoe/street stores around Chinatown

My buddy is Ukranian and I went to this Russian store with him out on 82nd. Damn, Russians eat some good shit. Their candy is off the hook.

Ahhh..been to Andy and bax a lot as a kid

Also liked the filson store. Great bags

Just walk up and down Alberta and you'll find what you're looking for.

I'm going to try to make it out to Pine Street.....I think they have a location at the Saturday Market....anyone been to that one?

any recommendations on where to pick up some good OYSTERS on Thursday? Probably just going to go to Uwajimaya.

Not sure where you can buy them. But, they have a real nice new oyster bar over in Mississippi district.

didn't really dig dan and louis' when I went there.

I think the oyster bar you're thinking of is EAT oyster bar.

Was looking more for buying them for cooking/grilling.

I'm a huge oyster connoisseur myself. Unless your at the coast its hard to find fresh oysters. But, there's 1 place in the metro area that does have them, but it might be a drive. Its called, Pacific Northwest Best Fish Co. and its out towards Ridgefield, North of Vancouver. Its in the fish market, connected to the cafe.

yeah. i fucking love oysters. we usually get a bunch down by Newport at some Oyster farm whenever we do buy them in Oregon.

one of my poasters on my other board reviewed EAT:
Went to EAT - An Oyster Bar today for lunch. 3808 N. Williams. This secret little area of town is going off!!! Looks like there's some good stuff to explore nearby. EAT was great if you're into oysters. Had a dozen various PNW heritage oysters - all raw. I don't care much for cooked oysters. Really fresh and good - and nicely shucked. Also a spicy shrimp dish served in a cast iron skillet - nicely spiced, not over-the-top, but messy. Had deep fried pickle slices for the first time - freakin' ADDICTIVE!

Brought dessert home from Pix across the street - I'm not much of a dessert guy, but my host insisted that I bring something home for the family. Got an onion and goat cheese tart, some chocolate thingy (not a chocolate fan really) and a baked apple and almond pastry. Handcrafted and beautiful. My host ordered a "Royale with Cheese", which is a half-baseball sized chocolate filled with chocolate mousse and served with a chunk of triple-cream French cheese. Wow......

didn't get to do that much.

Hit up Thien Hong for a jackfruit shake and pepper salted squid. awesome as always.

Winn Perry in Southeast. VERY tiny store, but they had a nice selection of clothes and shoes. Didn't buy anything, saw a retro vintage Portland Beavers wool cap.

Ate-Oh-Ate on Burnside around 24th near Laurelhurt market. Awesome Loco Moco....one of the best I've had. The rest of the menu was ok, not spectacular. nice homemade ice cream.

Pine Street Biscuits. Wow. that's all I can say.

Marios- no sale, so everything was overpriced. :) Maybe christmas time.

Ultimate Electronics- near Washington Square. Basically an electronics store which is like a smaller Best Buy, even has the same colours which is kind of redic. Founded by the Hollywood Video guy who used to be out of Wilsonville I believe?

Went to Powell's books too.

I'll have more time christmas time, provided no snow.

If you like chocolate....
.......................................this place kind of reminds me of the place the lady ran in the Johnny Depp movie ChocoLate

http://www.almachocolate.com/

Shots of liquid chocolate...drinks....many different blends of truffles and other things.

Alma's icons are solid single-origin dark chocolate from our custom designed original molds. They are hand gilded with 23k edible gold leaf and they're so beautiful people say they can't bear to eat them...but go ahead (you know you want to).
