Okay Apple fanbois - defend this one

http://mashable.com/2016/09/07/iphone-headphone-jack-courage/?utm_cid=hp-hh-sec#CSiVtmuEXiqZ

This is in no way the equivalent of losing the CD drive or the 30-pin connector. There is no technological excuse for this. Music does not sound better over a Lightning cable. Nor does it sound better over Bluetooth, or the proprietary wireless technology Apple is using in its AirPods. There's simply more audio information traveling over a wire than can travel over the air.

Say it with me now: wired almost always sounds better than wireless.

I actually went out and bought the 6S because I needed a new phone and they had reduced it to only $100. A steal. I was going to wait until the 7 came out but then I heard about them removing the headphone jack and that was a hard "no" for me.

I like my iPhone, but I'm definitely not a fan of all-things-Apple. I'm having a very hard time understanding how anyone could defend this move, and actually I have yet to really see anyone try. I'm wondering if some of the Apple lovers on this forum will be picking up the 7.

It means you can listen to music while you scuba dive.

I hate headphone wires, so for me, this is not a big deal at all. However, I only use the jack for headphones. Sucks for people that use it for other things like a mic or something.

I'm surprised Apple hasn't done this sooner. Apple likes their hardware and accessories to be proprietary. Denny will jump in here and claim it has to do with quality control but we're talking a simple headphone jack, this is more about Apple getting paid for every new audio accessory sold. Smart move.

Or people will revolt, which I hope they do. I will not buy a phone without a headphone jack. Won't do it. I like to listen to music and charge my phone at the same time. I'm not going to buy wireless earbuds. That's just silly.

An headphone jack adapter comes with the iPhone 7.

Doesn't bother me at all. I've been wanting to get bluetooth headphones anyway, so this will just jump start that purchase. And if I want to use standard headphones, use the adapter. Simple.

And what if you want to listen to music while charging your phone?

too bad you can't charge it when your listening to music!

I'd consider the 7 because of the bigger memory on board and the wide angle camera.

Some of my shit won't work right on iOS though (like Google Play movies I can't buy and rent movies from within the app itself)

Seriously? How often do you do that? I never do. I charge my iPhone 6 each night while I sleep and it lasts all day long, rarely do I get close to the battery getting below 10% by the end of the day. The iPhone 7 has a better battery, so it will even be less of a problem.

A lot of people use their phones as an ipod or as a means to listen to Spotify or Pandora.

As have been pointed out in that article that I linked, the qualify or audio is much much better with a corded set of headphones. Bluetooth isn't as good. Wireless isn't as good. And using the lightning cable isn't as good. So if you like high quality audio (HCP loves his Beats by Dre), you will not like this new development by Apple.

With the introduction of augmented reality apps like Pokemon Go, using a portable charger has been huge. I do it all the time. This would be a big step backwards and not in tune with the current trends in phone apps.

I'll bet Samsung follows soon. The headphone jack takes up valuable space inside the phone. The trend is that more and more people use bluetooth, regardless of the audio quality.

  • The audio quality isn't as good.
  • I don't want to charge them.
  • They're much more expensive and easier to break.

And give it a month, there will be lots of fanboy articles claiming that music sounds better now. It's the most incredible thing ever.

My biggest doubt in upgrading from the iPhone 6 Plus to the iPhone 7 Plus is that is it worth it? Are the new improvements on the phone worth the $$$?

So you're on a 5 hour plane ride and your battery is low, you can't watch a movie and charge your phone at the same time. unless you use bluetooth I guess.

I am a huge battery hog. There's no way an iphone would last me a day. If I'm travelling I doubt it'd last 4 or 5 hours.

As they walk around with earring looking earbuds hanging out of their ears.

Seriously though, I don't know how anyone uses the Apple earbuds that come with the phone. They're incredibly uncomfortable for me. I find my skull candy's to be much more comfortable. They're not entirely made of hard plastic.

are you renting the phone...errr...on the "iphone upgrade plan"?

Yes, it's not like circuit boards and chips ever get smaller and smaller. That's such a silly reason to remove the headphone jack. "We need the room... introducing the new iphone 7+, the biggest iphone yet!"

Why not the truth, "We just paid an insane amount for Beats by Dre and now we need everyone to buy new ones. Hail Hydra!" (Or whatever you Apple fan boys say.)

Those shits look fucking horrible. I use the LG Infintum. Looks stupid too but at least they don't look like fucking earings.

Here's another example, I will sometimes plug my phone into a small stereo system that I use when I'm out on my deck or working in the garage. I'll usually plug it into the charger as well. That won't be possible anymore. I would have to go buy a bluetooth stereo.

The wide-angle camera is probably worth the upgrade, at least for me it would be. If I had an iphone which I don't.
