Is Allen Crabbe a long term piece?

That should be cjs role. Crabbe has the ability to do Much more than just knock down shots

Really? He can't dribble. He can't get his own shot. You can't give it to him and expect him to drive past his defender and score. The only thing he has his size. That's what makes him the better defender because, let's be honest, he's just only okay at defense. It's true his percentages are better than CJ's. But he's getting those shots in the system. He's not creating anything for himself.

He was able to create for himself some in college. I think the talent is there to do so. Crabbe comes off to me as a guy that wants to do everything right and whatever he is asked to do out there. As he stops overthinking things and continues to gain confidence, I think he has the potential to make that next leap to his game in the nba by creating his own shot.

I guess time will tell

I think he has all the tools to be a great defender. Dude is incredibly smart. Always knows where to be on the court.

I also think as he gets more confident, you'll see him able to create his own shot more than we have seen.

I've seen him lose track of his defender a bunch and he commits some stupid fouls but I don't really disagree with you on the defender part. He does play some great on ball defense pretty often. I don't know if I think he'll ever be great at creating his own shot (specifically at the hoop) because he's not super athletic and doesn't have great ball skills but I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

He'll be a great backup for Ben Simmons*

*of course if the team passes on Ben Simmons, then insert whoever they pick because obviously he's untouchable and drinks like a fish. Wait, I think I did that wrong.

Crabbe is def a long term piece that dude is going to be a VERY solid rotation player for at least the next half decade. NO gotta lock him down

I think he's developing into a very nice ....trade piece.
Yes, whether we keep them or not CJ and Crabbe have both really upped their trade value this year if Neil has an opportunity to make a move. Not that I want to move him but Ed Davis is proving to be a huge steal at 7.5 mil per and Plumlee has played well and is on a cheap contract, more potential pieces. As far as Meyers goes I have no "objective" view on what he might be worth in a trade - he just frustrates me too much to be unemotional. And Henderson and Kaman are always available.

Wes couldn't create his own shot neither and scoring in system is not bad I actually prefer that with a player.

He's a long-term piece only in relation to how much trading a player like him could get us in a trade. He's a good player to have and playing himself into a pretty good position, but he might also be the guy you can put into a deal to bring back a player that fills a need and puts you over the top.

Very pleased with his progress. He's now hitting difficult shots off the dribble. I never figured him for that.

Exactly my thoughts.

I hope Neil doesn't make the same mistake he made with Will Barton.

When you pause to think about how many guys get moved in a given year and how much roster turnover actually happens across the league, I guess "long-term" depends on your time horizon. If "long-term" implies the next couple of years, then sure I could see that, but honestly I'd be shocked if there were more than 3 players on this current roster here in five+ years.

I wonder if you appreciate the irony of your post. Will Barton plays the same position as Crabbe. If we hadn't traded Barton, Crabbe wouldn't be getting the PT he is now and you would probably be grousing about how stupid Olshey is for keeping a guy who can't earn playing time. Crabbe is the more complete player, which is why the Blazers kept him instead of Barton.

Oh please, Crabbe can easily slide into the SF position. Your comeback is nonsense.

What Neil should do put number on each one what he is worth and if they want more let them go. No sense over paying anyone on this team period. How much is Crabbe worth I figure around 5 to 7 million for someone coming off the bench. I really don't care how much other teams paid there guy and really don't care the amount money that be up next year. Pay the guys what there worth.

Yes, this. Crabbe fits the system better.

But even more germane to that particular trade, we were trading youth for a veteran who was supposed to help us in the playoffs. Then the injuries started, and the whole plan went to shit. Doesn't mean it wasn't a good plan.

People convientently forget this part when needing to find a reason to complain.

I agree (and echo this sentiment even more strongly in the case of the Oneal/Davis trade), but I just wasn't impressed with the specific target even before the trade was completed.

See, that's fair enough.

Fair point.

So just about dump the whole team then?

Crabbe has turned a corner with us. He's productive and finding his groove. I really like him as part of our 3-Guard rotation with Damian and CJ. They all inter-change well too.

I'd be happy to see him continue to play well and get better and stay here. I could also see him included in a trade to bring a better player back (DeRozen). I think CJ is the perfect 6th man guard long term. But, he's doing a fine job with the starters role too. I think he's a little more valuable than Crabbe is because of today's NBA rules for guards. He's untouchable and gets his shot off with little trouble. Team them (Dame & CJ) with Anthony Davis, or Ben Simmons, or the like, and we've got something to really talk about.

Crabbe and who else for DeRozen?
