Is Allen Crabbe a long term piece?

I don't mean earlier that CJ is untouchable. He is. But, he's hard / difficult to guard on the court.

Crabbe can absolutely create his own shot, I have witnessed it several times this year.

Last year he was strictly a spot up shooter, this year he has taken opponents off the dribble and created space. He may not be great at it, but he has vastly improved and has shown he can continue to improve.

Are you talking about his pull up midrange jumpers? That's just from defenses running him off the 3 point line and him taking what they give him. That's not him creating his own shot..

He was able to create for himself some in college. I think the talent is there to do so. Crabbe comes off to me as a guy that wants to do everything right and whatever he is asked to do out there. As he stops overthinking things and continues to gain confidence, I think he has the potential to make that next leap to his game in the nba by creating his own shot.

I guess time will tell

Since when have we seen anyone develop into that? You either can do it or you can't. And he most certainly didn't show anything like that in college. He was a spot up shooter and a bit of a slasher. 3&D. He's not even that athletic. I'm not sold on becoming someone who can break down defenses.

And a one dribble pull up is not creating your own shot. It's the defense coercing you out of a shot that was worth more. Again, you can't just give it to Crabbe and tell him to go score.

What I especially liked about Crabbe's focus since he's been here is that he made defense his first priority...he hasn't looked to score until this season and not that much even yet...he still is an unselfish 3 and D guy more than a second option type player..on a good night he can score in bunches

I see what you did there....

Great art should yield a different interpretation each time you look at it. Each time the perceiver views the diamond, his viewpoint is of a new facet from a different angle.

Harry's post is great art.

I never do this....

But, he's a 'poor mans' Allan Houston.

Just because he's a lighter skinned Brotha that can shoot, and has the same name, doesn't mean he's anywhere near the same realm of Allan Houston. As a matter of fact those are the only things they really have in common. Allan Houston could dribble and create his own shot. He had a nice crossover, and he could get to the rack. Until Mr. Crabbe shows anything resembling a crossover he will never look anything like Mr. Houston.

Oh Lord Reggie Miller..... Starting to love Crabbe but come on.
let him keep this up for the entire season and we all will be very happy with him, we would have a very good 3 guard rotation and we do need a guard with size and Crabby brings that - at this time I say he's a keeper or becoming a lot more valuable trade piece, I wish I could say the same about Meyers

I like Crabbe, that's why I started this thread but Reggie Miller come on. I just want Crabbe to be Wes Matthews.

I think you missed 'poor mans'.

Wes is a good goal for Crabbe. (neither drafted in the first round) And even though Wes played way more his first two years, I honestly think Crabbe can be better.

Hard to match Wes when it comes to heart, but I think Crabbe is a little more athletic and has a much better mid range game. He also finishes on the fast break better.

Wes may be a better post up player, but really who cares, about those 2 plays a games.
Wes is more physical, but Allen has a longer reach.

I am not sure how in the hell some of our posters thought he sucked this summer. He looked good to me. But not this good......

If Crabbe can keep this up, we have a very good three guard rotation that we should build around. Add Plumlee and Davis with Aminu and I think there is a good balance of defence and offense.
I hate to say it ,but Meyers is becoming the odd man out. He couldnt make his shots again last night and thats the most important thing for his game and this team. He is shooting himself into a trade and we wont get much for him.
If we could package Meyers Kaman and Hendo for a solid starting PF, I think we need to look at it.
I really like the core that seems to be developing out of Dame, CJ, Crabbe, Aminu, Plums and Davis. They continue to play better and better together. Some really good two on tow with Crabbe and Plums last night.

If Meyers can get his shooting back up and prove to be consistent, maybe you replace him with Vonleh for that same trade... I don't know, but its rather obvious PF is our weakest position hands down.

Keep the faith OB. Still early regarding Meyers. I expect this season to be very inconsistent for him. His shot will return.
Having said that he may never be more than an effective role player off the bench. Which is fine. He fills a need depending on the matchups.

Speaking of matchups.....I love our small ball lineup in the 4th with Dame, CJ, Crabbe, and Aminu. (With either Plums or Davis)
That is a nice perimeter lineup. (Both on O and D) As long as Aminu can match up with the other teams PF......... it works.

I didn't miss that at all. He can't do any of the things that Allan Houston could do except for shoot. Poor man's means that he can do the things that the person you're describing can do just not at their level.
