Lol I will. I know nothing about him.
Verify what I write here. From memory. Here's his WikiPedia page.

Washington was an alderman in Chicago. He ran for mayor in the Democratic Party primaries against two white candidates, Richie Daley Jr (son of the longtime party machine mayor) and Jayne Byrne. Both Daley and Byrne ended up being mayor at some point, but not this time. In the primaries, the vote was split almost evenly and Washington ended up the nominee with 33.4% of the vote (or whatever, it was really close, a shade over 1/3).
In a city that hasn't elected a republican mayor in a century, and where democratic party mayors get elected with 70% of the vote or more, Washington won a squeaker of an election against a cannon fodder republican candidate, Bernard Epton.
Epton received 80%+ of the white vote. Washington a shade over 50% overall.
This is a liberal democratic party machine city in the 1980s (and still).
Who's really on the side of black people?
When you saw Washington on stage on TV, you saw the faces of black people who made up his administration on the stage behind him. More power to him.
My only gripe with the guy was that in his haste to give govt. contracts to black construction firms, he began construction on all the major expressways at the same time, causing traffic nightmares.
We need more men like him. May he rest in peace.
