Roy's problems with turnovers and shooting is definitely "between his ears". He has lost some athleticism, but he can certainly still play "smart" and hit open jumpers if he gets his confidence back.

I'm not so sure. I think Roy's revealed to be a streak shooter. He needs volume shots to even out his percentages and get numbers. Since he doesn't get volume shots anymore, his stats are going to reflect those of streaky bench shooters.

That said, he really needs to shoot more I think. He's definitely adjusted his game, from my perspective, over the past month. He breaks a defender down, enters the paint, and kicks out. He would probably kick out 20% of the time pre-injury. Its seems nearly 90% now. I think he needs to shoot more getting so close, and that may be a mental block Nate is alluding to. But I would definitely take a Roy 2 inch jumpshot from 7 feet in a crowd over another Rudy/Patty/Matthews, etc wide open 3 point brick.

I did not quite interrupt what Miller said the same way you did. When I heard him say it, I agreed with Nate. Meaning when Roy misses wide open jump shots, or gets to the basket and misses a lay-in....it is mental. Partly due to not being used to coming in cold off the bench as opposed to starting.

Nate was not addressing the fact that Roy has lost a step. Just that his shooting struggles have not been related to his knees.

Now what made me fall out of my fucking chair was when Miller alluded that since Roy's assists are down, he must be holding onto the ball more and not passing as much as he used to. For an x-NBA player to make such a stupid conclusion based on looking at a stat sheet is embarrassing. Gee you think there could be other reasons? Like the second unit he plays with can't hit an open shot? If anything Roy is holding on to the ball less, not more, than he used to.

Bottom line though was that after watching the game last night, Miller knows that Roy still contribute at a high level. Even if he is not as explosive.

Miller is a horrible analyst. Gawd he's bad. So, are most NBA announcers for that part. They should learn from the NFL. Bring in ex-players who actually had to understand the game (ex-QBs, offensive lineman) as opposed to superstar athletes who bring name notierity over actual game knowledge. He was embarrassing himself over and over again the other night against the Jazz. Per usual with him.

Last night during the TNT broadcast, Reggie Miller said he talked to McMillan about Roy's struggles on the court, and McMillan told him the problem was all "between Roy's ears." In other words, it's a mental thing.

Coaches say that to motivate players all the time. I once had a diving coach at Pearl Harbor who'd answer my plaintive complaint with, "No such word as can't." Then he demanded again that I kill myself with some ridiculous backflip from 30 feet high.

He was going easy on me because I was 12. Good thing I wasn't 18 or I'd be swimming with the sharks. Instead I'm with all you creampuffs here. Ahh, I love the Northwest.

The word "gay" should remain a synonym for "homosexual" and not become a general putdown, as in, "It sure is gay that it's raining today." Similarly, decades ago the word "communist" became a general putdown of practically anything, and the recent word "terrorist" never did have any specific meaning that I can decipher.

I would feel kinda bad not paying the guy, but then again, he's making millions and millions and unfortunately cannot live up to that contract. It's a sticky situation. The contract is 100% guaranteed. Even a buy out will guarantee he is paid his entire contract.

I think we may be seeing Roy's last games as a Blazer because if a salary can come off the books in the next CBA, as seems likely, then Roy will be waived- be it for salary cap or luxury tax reasons. He's a shadow of his former self, sad as it is, and would be a lousy defender even if he adjusts to be a spot up shooter. We can do better- Matthews is already much better.
