Is it happening again?

Come on, JE, be more honest than that. You've been involved in plenty of civil debates here, civil on both sides. All the major fights I've seen you in, you've been just as hostile/combative as anyone who was attacking you. Sometimes you have a "Fuck the homers, I'm going to tell them off" attitude, rather than just making your points civilly.

So, yes, you've been a target, but you've also been provocative plenty of times.

More generally, it's very hard to sort out effects on this forum. It's hard to disentangle "forum xenophobia" from the number of people who come here with chips on their shoulders, already annoyed about how Blazers fans discuss more than just the Blazers here, don't go elsewhere on the site or "are treated differently" due to size.

Personally, I'd love to see fans from all forums come here to debate civilly and be treated with respect.

Well he does have a point. There are several times where he and DaRizzle have been chastised (and I use that term loosely) and called trolls for merely posting here. While JE and DaRizzle have certainly been involved in some scuffles I think when they start to get angry it is a defensive thing - while that doesn't help it is understandable. When you're misunderstood, your intentions called into question, and you're insulted it's hard to remain calm and you get snarky or downright mean back.

As a whole our forum is probably a little too defensive about outsiders coming in and discussing things Blazers related - often accusing them of being Blazer haters, homers of their teams, trolls, and various other things. While certainly not everyone does this (and maybe it seems more because as we all know a vocal negative minority often leads to speculation and assumption that an entire fanbase is like that) it certainly sends a message out that isn't entirely positive.

It is something that both sides have to work on - Blazer fans realizing that other fans coming in and trying to offer an objective view of things isn't bad and just leads to more discussion, and other fans coming in and being told off by some realizing that not all Blazer fans are like that (or ridiculous Blazer homers either) and ignoring those people and finding the people to engage in real conversation in.

The majority of the time when I'm being abrasive/difficult, I feel like someone else is out of line and I'm just retaliating in kind. There have been times when I've initiated small-scale nuclear war (like the Spurs thread), yes, and I've admitted it when it happens. I also admit that I have a pretty low tolerance for posts/thoughts (in debates) that seem broken and half-assed. That said, it can be pretty difficult to post in here when people (and they know who they are) shout 'TROOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLL!!!' at the slightest hint that you might not be thinking pro-Blazers. I can't recall three fair-lengthed debate threads here that haven't contained some petty flame wars. I might have initiated a couple of them, and again I acknowledge those, but the majority of them were irrational homer fans jumping down my throat for having the audacity to post anti-Blazers in Blazer territory.

Apparently, some Lakers moderators got upset about some Portland fans going to the Lakers forum and gloating. So they've decided to launch a trolling attack here.

It would be awesome if you'd try to ignore them.

Is Basel 57 a mod over there? That punk wishes he were Kobe's concierge.

agreed, the forum is "ours." That's not to say that I don't appreciate the efforts of Denny Crane, but we can easily move somewhere else.

Can't agree with you on the "ours." The community belongs to whoever identifies with it, but the forum is for anyone who wants to talk about the Blazers.

And yes, as proven several times before, the group can move. But the last two times it was due to lack of effective communication with (perceived) heavy-handed admin. In this case, there were a couple of people (moderators, unfortunately, but not representative of site admin) being disruptive here, so I don't think it's a similar situation.

I agree. The Lakers are the French of the NBA. They talk a big game and act arrogant, but punch them in the mouth and they reveal their cheese-eating-surrender-monkey core.

This shit has happened before? It's pretty sad that the mods are the ones doing the trolling...

Hell, even if I think the Blazers will lose a game (which turns into an epic fail for me because we slaughtered the Lakers), I get attacked and told I'm not a blazer fan  I'd say don't take it personally

I hate this kinda shit! Stay off their boards! Some of you are just like the dorks that act like they won the world championship after dunking on somebody! See-Ricky Davis

We've been asked to engage in conversation on other boards. It seems that several in here are simply obliging.

ok I'll admit that "ours" is hyperbole, but a forum is nothing without users. This particular Blazer community is the "attraction" (for better or worse), not the website.

My entire post was specific to the rule breaking behavior of multiple "moderators" whose job it is to help enforce the very rules they were breaking. And, that that EXACT same behavior led to the near total destruction of the Blazers forum on BBF (and is why most of us moved to SportsTwo). I can't imagine the owners and admins here would be dumb enough to allow that to happen - especially since they saw what this behavior by trolling Laker "moderators" did to the Blazer forum on BBF. It's not just stupid behavior, it's bad business.

it is absolutely laughable that you blame what happened at bbf on "trolling laker moderators".

I really don't disagree with anything you say. One thing that should be made abundantly clear though: while there is a community here that many identify with, there isn't one single "Blazer forum" entity...there's just a bunch of individuals. Like with all fanbases, some are homers, some are aggressive, some are xenophobic and many are just the normal obsessive but harmless geeks who post on forums.

The "forum" shouldn't be associated with the individuals who cause problems.

yeah we got heart

Dude... that's fucking gross.

Where is our next stop? Alright..................everyody back to BBF!!!!! Let's go!

I'm gonna have to jump in here.

Why are you guys so protective of 'your forum'? Its not yours, its the site's. And from personal experience, its like you guys take offense to every non-Blazer fan coming here and daring to have an opinion that isn't pro-Blazers on that particular matter, no matter how valid or well thought out it may be. What is the point of just gossiping to each other all day about how good Jerryd Bayless is, instead of engaging in actual debates with fans of other teams?

Just sayin'.

Because fans of most other teams have no clue where Portland is located on a map. Why should we give their opinions any special merit when they know so very little about the Blazers? What I mainly see from fans of other teams is them trying to convince me Roy is not really an all-star, he has peaked, Oden is a bust, Aldridge is soft, yada yada yada...

And this board is nothing without its members, who here are Blazers fans, so yes it is our board. Sure, S2 could try to impose their will on us if they wanted to, but this is our community. Just like the two or three other boards that all of us fled when mods became over zealus with their new found abilities we could all relocate again if management does not like the way business is conducted over here. They assured us that they would leave us to our own vices here, and so far have.

I am not posting on the Lakers board because I could not care less about the purple and piss perspective on the NBA. They have a trolling mod that claims to be from Beverly Hills and Malibu at the same time, all the while acting like he is from Compton or Watts and forgot to put down the gin and juice prior to posting.

Ther are very few posters that are moderate. True NBA fans. Most are just fans of their team. You can not have intelligent discussions with most other fans because they are so fanatical about their team they will not listen to differing points of view. And I really do loathe those that think their knowledge is so superior to mine that they can actually get me to think like them.

The Ariza foul on Rudy was an obvious Flag 2. All of the elements for a flag 2 foul was met, yet Laker fans will argue it was a "Clean" foul. I still haven't gotten the definition of a clean foul. Of course if it was purple and piss lord and savior Kobe that was knocked on his ass purple and piss would be all awash with vitriol. It's retarded. Keep them over on their board. If you want to place nice on the Portland board, then welcome. But don't act superior, more knowledgeable or bang on out team. Mixum does enough banging on this team as it is. And I'll stay off of your teams board because I am not entitled to post over there. I am not a member of that community. If I were to post elsewhere I would be sure to be respectful. I can blast your team on my own board.

Although I want to disagree, as someone who has worked hard on the NFL, C-Ball and Raptor aspects of the forum, you are right. This is the most active part of S2. Therefore, it is the most attractive. But it's a good sign for me, shows I need to step up my game. :)

So, how exactly do "moderators" coming here and deliberately baiting, trolling and insulting other posters improve this site?

If you'll kindly re-read my post, you'll see that I never once complained about (or even mentioned) any problems with posters from other forums coming here and disagreeing or participating in the discussions. They are welcome, and even encouraged, to do so. Come on in. No problem with that at all.

Ummm...you sure you were responding to my post? You brought up that all the action is going on in the Blazer forum while the others are dead, but they're partially dead because of all the OT threads in here. That's the only thing I really was refering too...

Well just look at all the wonderful reasons I've been given to explore other forums. Besides, I want to chat with Blazer fans. We have a wide enough community here that there's plenty of discussion without things getting boring. You're also under the impression that I give a fuck about the website as a whole. I don't. This Blazer community is the only reason I'm here, S2, while nice, offers nothing a million other websites can't offer.

Weird how I was referring to everyone, not just you. There are tons of OT threads here all the time rather than other forums. I was kinda directing that towards them, for example the J-Kidd threat, or Odom being suspended...or even Z-Bo airballing at the end of the game. Besides Z-Bo, the other threads don't really belong in the Portland's forum, and that's why the site seems dead since all the discussion is going on here rather than other forums.

So you basically just proved me right, and told me that I have no right to post in the Blazers forum unless I plan on kissing Brandon Roy's ass. Thanks for that.

See, I agree with you 100%, but you lose me where you start to say "purple and piss".

What's the point of trying to get your point across when you are antagonizing them at the same time? If you want them to STFU, wouldn't the best way would to be respectful of their team as well?

So you basically just proved me right, and told me that I have no right to post in the Blazers forum unless I plan on kissing Brandon Roy's ass. Thanks for that.

Point is, we don't all feel that way. I certainly don't. Ignore the posters who won't talk to you reasonably and discuss with those who will.

Damn right! Kiss Roy's ass! Kiss it!

Weird how I was responding as myself, not everyone. Obviously my posts represent my and only my opinion.

What's your problem with the OT threads here anyway? It's already been established that I (though a few others seem to agree with me) feel that a forum belongs to its posters. If we want to talk about Jason Kidd on our forum, what's it to you?
and that's why the site seems dead since all the discussion is going on here rather than other forums.
and could you tell me why I would give a flying fuck? I've already written it several times, but I really don't give a crap about the other forums. Why would I? If, say, I want to discuss a trade proposal on another team's forum (which has happened), I'd just google "Bobcats forum" and find one. Problem solved. Again, do you only want to bring in more posters because you're already a mod here or what?

Well the Odom one was posted here I imagine because 1. It happened in a Portland/Lakers game. 2. Most every Blazer fan has some deep abiding loathing towards the Lakers.

As for going to other boards and discussing things I always found this a difficult subject. Let us take for example the J-Kidd thread - how do you think Mavs fans would respond if Kingspeed had gone over to their board, made a negative thread about one of their players, then when they argued with him he refuted with some random facts then ended his post with "learn the game, then post". Not only does that not help start productive conversation on the Mavericks board it unfortunately gives the impression that Blazer fans are trolls (because again negative impressions lead to assumptions about entire fanbases which is understandable).

The only time I usually go to another team's board is to ask a question about a player that I can't find on a team-based website; or if they're discussing the Blazers themselves on another board.

I don't think you can suggest the Blazers board is to blame for limited activity on other boards here because usually the only ones replying in these threads are Blazer fans and maybe a few moderators from other boards.

I will try discussing other teams on their related boards though to assist in this increase activity suggestion, however.
