or does racial tensions seem to be heightening in this country? It has felt this way for several months. From the Kanye West thing the other night, to being unable to criticize the president without being called a racist. There are other things that have happened that are not coming to mind. But something doesn't feel right here of late..

Am I the only one feeling this way?

No, you're not. The Great Uniter seems to be The Great Untier.

Yeah, there is definitely some tension going on. I'm noticing it in my normal routines as well as in the corrupt media.

He has a responsibility to get that under control or to change the tune a lil bit.

Yes, because he's been personally out there telling people how racist they are?

His own press secretary came out and said that he didn't believe that the teabaggers in town were racist and that they had a right to express their views (and after the signs I've seen I'm more inclined to think they are just idiots). I believe he said something to the same effect about the people protesting at town halls. What more do you want him to do? I swear some of you people have unrealistic expectations of what a President should do. You love to harp on every little thing like any other President would have a big group hug for all of America and tell them how special everyone was and to put away their toys and play nice. He's the President, not your babysitter.

Any implication that the President is leading the charge or not trying to stop it can only be described as baseless and biased.

I imagine the white kid acted stupidly. :dunno:

Did I imagine Obama's "acted stupidly" lecture on racial profiling regarding the Gates incident? Did I imagine Obama ended up inviting the two men for a beer to try and clean up the racial mess he made with his comments on race and the police?

I think with the first Black president in American history . . . some of these feeling are inevitable.

Is Obama the Jackie Robinson of presidents?

yeah, except Jackie Robinson would have probably been in baseball if he were white. Obama? Not so much.

That is an intersting point . . . would Obama have won the democratic nomination and the presidency if he were white? I think given the republican ticket, any democrat nominee would have won the election.

Regardless, Obama being the first Black president in history, in and of itself, is bound to raise racial issues in America, IMO.

I think he's more like Eddie Gaedel. Completely unqualified for the job, but possessing a trait that made what would be impossible for him based on merit possible.

probably not. the racial issues aren't Obama's fault really...the blame goes on all sides, from the media hyping it up, to the right wingers, to the left wingers...everyone is culpable.

That made me rage.

Did this kid end up making it after they were done with their playtime? Poor dude will be scarred for life if he did.

Where the hell was the bus driver? This is insane. Are we really teaching our kids this kind of crap is ok? Where was the compassion?

F---.

Obama openly admits to making a mistake and tries to rectify it by bridging the race divide and you crucify him for it. Classic.

"And because this has been ratcheting up -- and I obviously helped to contribute ratcheting it up -- I want to make clear that in my choice of words I think I unfortunately gave an impression that I was maligning the Cambridge Police Department or Sergeant Crowley specifically -- and I could have calibrated those words differently. And I told this to Sergeant Crowley."

Of course, you also ignore his other attempts to keep this topic from boiling over.

I didn't "crucify him" for it. The fact is he blew up what should have been a non-issue into a national debate on race. That he apologized for it and admits to doing it doesn't erase the fact that he did fan the flames of racial tension. The only reason this topic "boiled over" is because the President accused the white police officer of "acting stupidly" and then gave a rather lengthy rant on race, the police, and profiling. All this during a prime-time press conference.

It's akin to an arsonist running back to a house he set on fire with a pail of water.

I'm not crucifying him at all. I am pointing out how Obama contributed to racial tensions, a point that even Obama seems willing to concede.

You know Obama was not the first black man to run for president. Both parties have had black men campaign for the presidency. I doubt it was his race alone that got him elected.

no, he also speaks quite well!

Just because racists are now encouraged to openly express their irrationally hateful, ignorant, un-American bad manners at Repugnant political rallies organized and funded by the very corporations who are bleeding them to death, you blame the President?
