What GM in league doesnt play mind games to increase value? Name one......see you cant!

The two who voted mind games - explain yourself
It's the more logical choice in my opinion. Neil with no leverage has to try to create some, and this is the only way to do so. I'd like to think he's not THAT inept.

In 9 years he shown he is. "If they show who they are, believe them the first time."

If he wanted Neil fired, do you guys seriously think Neil would still be here?
I really don't think the answer to this question is a simple "no". I think Neil has his hooks really deep into the Vulcans and I think he has autonomy. I think they're more dedicated to his vision (whatever the fuck that might be) than Dame. Hopefully we won't have to find out but if Dame does demand a trade and Neil isn't fired, that answers your question. In that case it would be obvious that Neil is more important to ownership than Dame and therefore if Dame wanted Neil fired, Neil would still be here.

There's doing a trade for a sake of a trade and then there's doing a trade to try to save the franchise.

It's really, really simple to think about. You're welcome.
Yeah, and what I’m saying is that you don’t do a trade if it’s gonna fuck you over. You wouldn’t meet Phillys price tag for Ben just because Dame is upset, now would you?

Don't believe I said that at all--actually I asked a question seeking your perspective/opinion. You're welcome to answer it, if you're so inclined.
Well there’s the Simmons price tag as an example. Do you accept that trade?

This could mean he wants C.J. traded.

This could mean a trade in general.

This could mean he wants a championship in Portland.

This could mean a number of things.
That was a big help:blahblah:

I would meet their price tag if the hold us is picks... I would let the have the "win" if them winning meant they got an extra first rounder and swaps that they don't deserve.

So yeah because Simmons is a gamble, CJ and maybe DJ plus a pick or two is probably a high but fair price but I would add on another pick and multiple swaps to make the deal happen. I'd let Morey get over on us because it would make us immediately much better (as it would for Philly) and Simmons has the potential to be a superstar. Also it sure doesn't hurt that it would renew Dame's dedication to the franchise. Draft picks are worth a lot but if we're still trying to win a championship with Dame, they really don't mean too much to us right now.

This is just sad.
Olshey is the third longest tenured GM…and he’s never taken a risk.
He’s a bad gm

I truly believe olshey don't know how to build a team that's actually balanced. His vision is not a winning vision. So far there still enough bad team in the west e every year that's allow us in the playoffs. But we really right now we just 7-10 team in the west. I wasn't put my opinion in yet but with the new editions we just 36-44 win team.

Do the Blazers even have an analytics guy - or do they have one and Neil just ignores him?

Yes, here he is:

If I had to guess, analytics is part of the reason why they've been attached to CJ as well as this group for so long. Their numbers are showing something we can't see. Their models also don't seem to factor in playoff results....

Then you're okay with Dame leaving.

I say go for it.

Is it possibe he's doing both?

Trying to increase CJs value, which might end up screwing things up by overvaluing him.

He's in a tough spot because if he gets someone of equal value for CJ, we're still a 1st/2nd round playoff team.

"Try to save the franchise"?

Haha

The Blazers existed without Dame previously, and it will exist in the future without him.

I know it's shocking to imagine losing Lillard for some, but... life would go on. He's not good enough to get us out of the first round on his own (even against a rather lousy Denver team)... and I think the team would be just about as likely to lose in the first round without him as we are with him so let's try to improve the team by getting as much value as we can for him before he gets hurt or gets angry.

Let me play devil's advocate here. If you move CJ for a PF of equal value, we become a better, more balanced TEAM. Doesn't that make us a bigger threat in a 7 game series?

Rather lousy Denver Team, are you high. No team with Jokic is lousy. And while they were missing key players, someone forgot to tell Morris and Rivers. They played great , & hit shots out of this world. Not making an excuse for Portland, only Dame brought it every night, but Denver isn't a lousy team without Murray, Barton, and Posey. They beat a ton of good teams down the stretch of the regular season without those guys.

Do your models factor in injuries?
It's not my models. But if they did, why would it think our team was good enough to run it back when we lost against a heavily injured Denver team?

So when healthy they would be even better than us.

You're making a great case for why we should blow it up and trade Dame.

Denver is like 4th or 5th in the west fully healthy.

As I recall, no CJ-based price tag has been specified for Simmons, as Morey has stated unequivocally that he is not interested in any deal with a CJ-for-Simmons framework. Would you like to elaborate on said price tag, por favor?
