I use to live in St. Louis and large parts of it looked like Berlin in 1046.
You lived in St. Louis in 1046, or it looked like 1046 Berlin?

My eyes were damaged in combat operations. I know it's inconvenient for you to tolerate my mistakes but believe it or not it's more than a tad inconvenient for me. Please try to bear with me.You lived in St. Louis in 1046, or it looked like 1046 Berlin?

Advocado toast, is that anything like avocado toast? Please bear with me, I'm trying to imitate Barfo. That's oversimplifying all of those problems. Sure they have been around but not to the degree we have in today's world. We are now seeing the results of 50 years of bad policy, it's always been a snowball effect.
Drugs are less of a choice than many people think, do you really think people would rather rot their teeth out living in a gutter than live a normal productive life?
I'm sure we are talking about different things when we say social priorities. My definition is health and mental care, drug rehab programs, less war spending and more infrastructure spending, accessable education, ect. I'm don't mean individual choices of iPhones and advocado toast.

The date should read 1946.
No, it's just that I was having problems with my eyesight today. I guess I was feeling sorry for myself. It's a son of a bitch of a curse. Blind in one eye and have trouble seeing out of the other.Sorry, wasn't trying to pick on you. I will try to restrain myself from having fun with typos.

There are no tents in Tampa. It got cleaned up in 2011 when the city cracked down on aggressive panhandling and tent cities. Don’t let a limited worldview stay limited. Not sure if you realize how stupid this sounds...
There are tents all over ALL cities.
I just came back from Vegas.
The people that live in the sewers there are the self proclaimed "mole people".
Last I checked NV is a conservative state. Not sure how that became a liberal problem or how only liberals are being associated with homelessness.
You need to get your mind right on this one.
And yet, poor conservatives are not being bribed with alcohol and cigarettes to fraudulently push ballot measures or voter registration...My point is that homelessness isn't a liberal or conservative thing. It's a poverty thing. And the numbers show there are more conservatives in poverty than liberals. Although the poverty rate is higher in districts represented by Democrats, most poor people in the United States live in a community represented by a Republican. Taken together, the poverty rate in districts represented by Democrats in 2016 (“blue” districts) was 17.1 percent in 2010-14 compared with 14.4 percent in those represented by Republicans (“red” districts). But Republican districts have more poor residents overall: 25.1 million poor people lived in red districts in 2010-14 compared with 22.7 million in blue districts.
There are millions more poor conservatives than liberal.
You’ve literally listed 4 of the bluest Democratic bastions that there are, leaving out Chicago (which I’ve avoided) and DC (which I can attest to, though nowhere near as rampant as Seattle or Portland). Tampa doesn’t have a large homeless problem, even for being pretty blue/red split. Albany NY didn’t. Wilmington, NC doesn’t.Exactly, there are tents and homeless people all over the place. Their number grew in the latter G.W. Bush years and again in the Trump administration. LA is worse than Portland even when measured on a per capita basis.

Even Seattle had homeless when I lived up there.
Believe me, it's a problem that needs to be addressed nationally but I don't think Trump's the guy that has the capability to recognize it and do something about it.
I think Trump's a guy who blames individuals for their poor choices. I think this is not a bad approach when you're dealing with individuals but when dealing with large numbers that tells you there is something wrong with the system. You just can't blame a whole bunch of people for making bad choices. There's got be a systemic problem.
I think I’d have fared better in 1046 Berlin than 1946 Portland or St Louis today. You lived in St. Louis in 1046, or it looked like 1046 Berlin?

The explosion with tents in Portland, Seattle and other big cities started in concert in occupy wall street. Many that find there now were there during the protest.Exactly, there are tents and homeless people all over the place. Their number grew in the latter G.W. Its a way of life they've chosen when there are other viable options to pursue.
People make choices everyday about whats important to them or not important to them.

Street kids have always been part of Downtown Portland life, at least since the 90s.

I believe they bought them bus tickets and enough cigarettes to get to PortlandSo how did it get cleaned up? Did the homeless get jobs and buy houses? Or did you drive them away to the next town? If the latter, is that scalable?

How can you crack down on these folks without playing bad guy to some tragic souls many of whom are mentally ill plus playing fire with some Constitutional rights? There are no tents in Tampa. We once found my mentally ill brother living on the street. I've got compassion for these lost souls. The explosion with tents in Portland, Seattle and other big cities started in concert in occupy wall street. Many that find there now were there during the protest.

My question is, if Portland being liberal is an issue why wouldn't those folks just own up and move to logging country in Roseburg?
Wait a minute now. A few months back, you and hcp blasted me for speaking my opinion that homeless are everywhere. You guys lit into me and told me i was clueless aNd homelessness is on the decline.
Now your stance is there are tents everywhere?
Lol.
Eugene has the largest % of homeless per population in the country I read somewhere...California as a state is number one but Oregon is number two I believe..toilet joke comingWait a minute now. I’m not sure how the ‘burbs could get much whiter than they already are......unless of course the homeless white people move there.......I wonder if we are starting to see another round of white flight to the exurbs, only this time to escape homeless people instead of black people.
Would be disappointing, after spending so much money and energy rebuilding the inner cities the last 30 years or so.

20 some years ago I lived just over the river in Wilsonville near the park and library and went to Canby to the auto auction when I needed a van...it's like a lot of small towns in Western Lane County..used to love those tennis courts in the Wilsonville park because you could always find an open one...which is harder and harder to do these daysCanby is the same. I'm soo much more at peace now in this small town caring type of community. Central East Side of Portland really dragged me down. Sorry @PtldPlatypus not sure how you do it over there anymore.
No food carts, but we have many summertime events damn near walking distance from my house.

I somewhat disagree. Many liberals want an easier life than to just buckle down and work hard, so they put themselves into poverty by wanting the government to pay for things instead of working hard to pay for it themselves.
At least the social libs of portland are like that.
Also. Its pretty well know that most large cities are dem/lib and most of the small town outskirts are conservative/republicans.
