Now ya gonna go all “Kjironman doesn’t know basketball “ after absolutely misreading my post.

Okay dude. Have a nice day.

Hey, I want to sincerely apologize for that. It was rather uncalled for, harsh and unfair. I seriously and very much feel like a heel for saying that to you. I need to think more about how my words sound and there was no reason to include the line about not knowing anything about basketball. I'm actually a nice guy and shouldn't post like that. Will definitely work on that. Sorry to everyone.

I still will charge you a fee to insult Slypokerdog.
We’re good bro,
My point stands. I don’t feel he’s got much to worry about as far as being disrespected.
If so? Turn that into motivation and have a huge year this year.

Haha, I don't know what to say to that.

And that's good to hear!

Yes, Simons should go out and have a breakout year. Would be nice to see that, for sure. I have seen articles where Brad Stevens spoke highly of him.

The whole "he sucks at defense" thing is really tired and actually shows you don't really know a lot about basketball. Everyone says Dame sucks at defense, too. When compared to a Jrue Holiday or TJ McConnell or Amen Thompson, sure! Correct answer! Guess what? Players who are elite and offense or capable of hitting 6-8 threes in a quarter or scoring 22 in a quarter are doing that BECAUSE they don't play hard defense. You can't have both. Fact. You only have so much motor and defensive play takes a lot out of you, as does offensive play.

Now, should Anfernee give more on defense and take his foot off the gas on offense a little? Well, sure. Would he be a better player if he was more well-rounded? Absolutely. He's not as bad as people make him out to be as a defender. His scoring ability makes up for those deficiencies.

All the armchair aficionados and La-Z-boy Larry Bird's expect too much and think they know everything. If Simons is going to be a torch on offense, he can't also be a torch on defense. Yes, he can and should get better at defense and will if he has the drive to do it.

Michael Jordan says hello. So does The Black Mamba.
I believe Tim Duncan won a scoring title and defensive player of the year in the same year as well.

Kawhi? Kobe? MJ? Paul George? Duncan? Pippin? Drexler? Walton? Bird? Shit, the list just goes on and on. And Simons isn't in the same conversation on either offense or defense as those guys.

Dame has never been as bad on defense as Simons is. And Dame is immeasurably better on the offensive end.

But Simons needs the ball in his hands to be effective. He doesn't play well offensively off the ball and he doesn't make teammates better when he dominates the ball.

He's a nice kid. But he should not be a featured player on a professional basketball team. And he's not good enough at other aspects of basketball to be a plus player without dominating the ball.

I hope he makes that switch. He definitely has the athletic ability. I assume when he's being paid by his 4th or 5th team it'll sink in. I hope so.

That must be why teams are falling all over themselves to trade for him.

He's got tools to be a very good 6th man. Simons is a very good piece to have. Probably a bit expensive. He's also really good on a personal level so it seems. Boston might be the perfect place for him this year.

Yeah, he seems like a really good guy. I hope he finds a good home where he's able to thrive.

He certainly has skill and ability.

Tim Duncan never won a scoring title. He had one year over 23ppg (25.5) where he was 5th in PPG but second in points playing all 82 games. He won two MVPs.

It's not just Simons were seeing guys like Clarkson sign for the vet minimum. Cam Thomas has very little interest. Hell - the Jazz had to give up a pick to send out Sexton and only get a washed up NURKIC back. CJ, Beal, Poole, etc - the story is similar with all of them.

Scoring guards with bad defense have little value in today's NBA with today's salary cap restrictions. There used to be a dozen teams that would salivate over any player that could score close to 20ppg. Teams smartly don't prioritize that any longer.

I think you're thinking of Giannis winning DPOY and MVP in the same year or how David Robinson won the scoring title AND DPOY and MVP, but not in the same year.

Jordan is, iirc, the only player who won the scoring title, MVP and DPOY in the same season.

I doubt some press conference that only a few hardcore fans would pay attention to is a sign of respect...or disrespect

pretty clearly, Boston has been trying to dump Simons since the NBA approved the Simons for Jrue trade. The Celtics would love to move Simons for a smaller expiring contract. They are still 4M over the 1st apron and 12M over the tax line. Having some phony press conference introducing a player when the entire league knows they are working hard to dump said player may be more disrespectful than what they are actually doing

Correct. I was thinking of Robinson winning a scoring title and dpoy in the same year.

For the record, my player listings were not to say one can be the best on both ends of the court, though it is possible, it was the mention that offensive players don't play hard on defense.
There are plenty more who play hard on defense who are scorers as well.
The notion that because a player is good on offense he should have to or doesnt need to play hard on defense is nonsense to me.
If a player wants to be great, get better, improve, no matter how good they are on offense, they need to play hard on defense as well.

Klay Thompson could fit that mold pretty well.

Correct. It was David Robinson who won a scoring title and dpoy in the same year.

David did not win the scoring title and DPOY in the same year.

He was MVP in 94-95, DPOY in 91-92 and won the scoring title in 93-94.

Pretty damn good stretch of ball.

I am also glad we're done with the 'but ant is better overall than <player X>' discourse.

cool! that is probably true! but that doesnt change what ant is as a player, and what he won't become as a player.

also opportunity cost is a thing.

that discourse was 'exhausting.'
