Is Wes an aberration?

Wes is doing what is needed to help his team win. Probably one of the most unselfish players on this team. I used to use him a lot for trades, thinking he just wasn't the guy we needed. I am so glad he made me eat crow. Matthews is beast and I'm glad he's on this team.

So, what factors do you see that are different from before (perceived or real), that has made you change your opinion? This kind of stuff, for me, that makes for interesting discussion.

Mainly the way he's taking his shots. Everything is in the flow of defense. Nothing seems too rushed with him now. It's like the game slowed way down for him.

I think his defense has really improved as well. He's utilizing his strengths to bump players out of position.

I think one of his biggest improvements is his ball handling. It's harder to guard him because he can now post you up and dribble penetrate.

I think the game slowed down because of the chemistry, and trust, especially with having a real center having his back. I think he's always been good at finding the open passing lane and being the outlet for a broken play. I think you're right on the ball handling, driving, finishing. He's definitely worked at it.

I'm a HUGE Wes fan. I love his tenacity, his toughness, his apparent love for the game, his unselfishness, his humbleness. Heck, I even love how he goes over to high-five Paul Allen at the start of every game.

Having said that, he can't keep up this shooting. He isn't going to finish the season above 50% on 3-pointers. People here need to be a little more realistic about that.

I would love to be wrong, and hope he can continue this shooting, but I'll be incredibly surprised.

The way I see it, Wes' shooting is going to come down, and Dame's has gotta go up. So it'll be a nice combination, and hopefully it happens at the same time.

MickZ is a Jinx!

So far tonight your prediction is true, hopefully Dame will keep it Rollin

If there are thousands of Abominable Snowmen, then they are not absolutely abhorrent aberrations.

Wesley started the season hot but he is a streaky shooter. But that's every journeyman player in the league.
We need another shooting guard in the rotation to take some of the pressure off.

Your telling me! Had the guy over to watch the game last night and look what happened!

Could Wes Matthews possibly make the All Star team? That would be amazing.

How is Wes a journeyman? He played one season with Utah and has been with us since. Mo Williams is a journeyman. Wes is not.

He didnt even make the ballot! Outrage. Coaches are out of their minds if they dont at least pencil the guy in.

If he keeps his 3 point shooting over 40% all season that is what will really matter. 55% and 49% probably won't last forever.

I've always been a huge Wes guy. But his play has been ridiculous this year. 55% shooting out of your 2 guard, 50% from downtown and good for the best ORtg in the entire NBA. Along with the great defense. We've had great play out of all our guys. But IMO Wes is the straw that stirs the drink.

A better slasher this year, always great energy, dead aim shooting and gritty.

I'd say we can sign good free agents in this small market.

while I completely agree with the bolded part assessment, I don't think his signing does much to dispel the reasons Portland isn't much of FA destination (poor ratings). His signing was obviously a unique situation.

Anyway, your main point of 3 cheers for Wes is spot on. I'd note that the past two years he's battled leg injuries... healthy legs are a bonus when slashing. Every player has their ups and downs with their health, hopefully WM has a nice long stretch on the up side as this is fun
