I actually feel the opposite. I have a feeling because of this they'll be forced to be aggressive this summer using the expirings and draft picks in hopes they're still in position to make the playoffs if Nurk can come back at the end of the year.

Adding a LaMarcus Aldridge type player is probably more realistic now. Or at the very least landing a DeAndre Jordan or someone like that with the MLE. We don't have to worry for next year how certain players would fit with Nurk.
Fair enough. Do you think DJ's worth has gone down to being an MLE guy? He might have but that's a pretty quick fall.
The real question is I'm not sure what those expiring's are actually worth this summer, I think they're worth more at the trade deadline, but it would be interesting to see what they can do with them.

Ok... NO and Stotts were not high-fiving each other... I assume you're joking but sheesh.
My point was just I don't think it's giving up on next year if they don't make huge changes this summer. At least now that Nurk got hurt anyways. I also think any success in the playoffs will be met with, well if nurk was healthy... Any failure will be met with, yeah but they didn't have Nurkic. Which will lead to NO / Stotts saying let's just be patient, let Zach develope and see what we look like with Nurkic next year. They have some expiring's they may be able to move at the deadline next year. So my question for @hoopsjock was more or less why does he think this injury might make them more desperate for a move this summer? I mean maybe HJ is right and it will prompt some action, I just at least at the moment don't see it that way and was hoping for an explanation, though I could've phrased the question better.
I was typing out a response above to someone else. Last summer we didn't get Cousins because of Nurk being on the roster. Now we can be agressive and go after any type of big, not just one that fits with Nurk. Having a Whiteside or Drummond type would have been stupid with Nurk but now without him if we find a guy like those with a year left on his contract it lines up perfectly.

If Nurk comes back and shows anything by the deadline we can then flip that guy if needed too.

I really want to believe that. I can't, but I want to!

I thought that we didn't get cousins because they had the same agent or something like that. I hope you're right. I'm wrong a lot so that's good. heh.

I just don't see them sitting around waiting for Nurk with Dame on the team. Of course I'm probably wrong but it's just a gut feeling this will lead to them pulling the trigger on something they otherwise might not have.

Well yes they had the same agent but we could only pay one of them realistically and they played the same position and couldn't play together.

You think Neil will make moves without giving regard to how they will fit with the 2nd best player on the team?

Don't laugh. Losing with Nurk might have forced changes. Now, the franchise has a built in excuse to do nothing....again. Once the cameras were gone, I honestly suspect Olshey and Stotts were high-fiving each other.
Yeah, that's the real kicker. I wasn't expecting to get out of the first round before Nurk went down. And I expected Terry to get fired for it. But now, well, he's here for another year. Another one down the drain.

What if by some means they decided to spend some money and work a deal for Davis?

You didn't understand me correctly. If Nurk doesn't play next year or is on a limited minutes restriction we're going to need a center for next season. If Nurk was fully healthy we wouldn't.

Lets just take Whiteside for example. He's got one year left on his contract assuming he picks up his option. Pull off a trade for him and we can just plug him in at center. If he excels and Nurk isn't ready we keep both. If Nurk is back by the trade deadline then we have a $27 million expiring contract in Whiteside to deal, plus he's got more value than Turner and Leonard.

This is Nurk's third season ending injury due to some issue or the other with his legs (2 on left, 1 on right).

If your point is that he’s injury prone then, yeah, maybe. If your point is that that makes him heal more slowly, I’m not buying that.

What ever you guys do do not blame Seth or Dame or CJ or the Refs or even any player on the Nets roster for this injury. There is truly only one person that could even remotely be to blame.

Charles Barkley!
The dude decided to say the Blazers were going to the Finals and this team has suffered since!

Sorry about digging up an old zombie, but Sly's post about bumping zombies got me thinking about this post and how much has changed since the day after Nurk's fracture.

Sometimes it's worth digging up old threads just to see how drastically things have changed, and to kind of remind yourself that when things get dark they won't always be that way. It really is true that the only sure thing in life is change.

I generally think of myself as an optimistic person. I wasn't that day.

Look at you.

First S2 poster in history to admit where he might have been wrong, FAMS! Congrats!

Cant admit I'm wrong because I dont lie!
Im devastated by Nurks injury but come on people... be more logical...

We'll make the moves neccessary to remain competitive. Other than the year we finished .500, when have we not? Guys will step up in the absence of others, much as people have done for CJ. We'll have expiring contracts that'll be tradable for a legitimate upgrade. If not, we'll shed a contract and bring back Hood or Curry for the Full MLE.

Nurk doesnt rely on athleticism or quickness. Once he returns, he should be just as effective if not only for some rust. This type of injury usually takes 8-12 months to recover from. So November to March is the timeline. We'll remain competitive in the mean time. Nurks leg should be stronger, and hopefully his mindset will remain steady. With someone like Dame, it should.

We still have Dame leading this franchise, so were in good hands. Let's see how the rest of this year plays out. A 2nd round playoff birth after this adversity would be even more special than before, and it's possible. It was likely all we were looking at this year.

Collins will develop faster given the extra opportunity, we'll likely make a legit upgrade, and Nurk will return all before the 2020 playoffs. KD and Cousins are both extremely likely to leave Golden State, and Houston will be another year older.

Next year is our year.

The thread is still relevant.

It is not a zombie.

Why the tag?

I don't know if it was your worst post (and it doesn't matter.) I did happen to stumble across another one, that quite possibly could be one of your best though....

There once was a seven foot stiff
As white as a white flag and he'd whiff
Shot after shot
Til finally old Stotts
Got his hands on 2 brand new "What ifs"

Lmao.... Good stuff there!

Edit: Oct 2017, after Plums got traded for that other dude....
