The one that made 'no sense' made so little sense that you would think there would almost HAVE to be a secondary deal done if that was the first move. If that was all that happened, it would leave fans scratching their heads big time.
Would the incoming player have a better situation with the contract status (lower pay, longer contract, etc)? It may make sense to punt for the rest of the year & trade the duplicated talent in the summer.

It's obviously not a center or PF then.

Yes....I was hoping for that as well.
One more question for you.
Did your sources give any indication of how 'toxic' or 'tradeable' the Crabbe, Turner, and Meyer contracts are? Is there any team out there interested in at least one of the 3?

So that seems to be saying we are NOT looking at Noel, Whiteside, Milsap, Okafor, Lopez, Butler and Bogut?

Sooo, we still could be looking at Ibaka, maybe Dwight Howard and some guy at a position we have no need for?
It must be Mozgov!!!!

Yes. Wish I could add a little more but I'm probably already treading close enough.

Biyombo for Crabbe would lead me to consider lighting the Blazers facility on fire, so maybe that?

We're getting Aldridge back???

And while we're in forgiven and forget mode, can we also re-hire Kim Hughes so we have an actual big man coach? I have no idea how effective Hughes was, but Meyers has regressed significantly since he left and Noah Vonleh has made ZERO progress without a big man coach.

Man, dropping the smallest scrap of a trade rumor in here is like tossing a gerbil in the middle of a pack of jackals.

There used to be more scuttlebutt coming from 1 Center Court but Neil is very tight lipped about this so little comes out that then disseminates to other places. Most of what I get anymore comes from outside and from other teams or acquaintances with connections to agents.

The Trade Deadline is an exciting time that can bring new hope but from the couple of things that were passed on, at least initially, this would be a lateral move versus one we were all excited for. Hopefully that changes.

Aminu's rebounding is good for a small forward not for a power forward.
Seems to me Chief is rebounding better than Lamarus is ..he'll rebound even better if we get some better defense from the wings and guards

Just to be clear, TBpup, I appreciate your trade scuttlebutt as much as everyone else. I think that everyone has had Jan. 15th circled on their calendars for a long time and assumed that something would happen right away. As you said, this discussion that you heard about could just be the precursor to another move.

There are so many things that go into making a trade happen in the NBA. The fact that the Blazers are now in a position to actually do something, doesn't mean that other teams are eager to pull the trigger so far in advance of the deadline. They may be looking for sweeter deals. Also, it's possible that Olshey isn't looking to make a major move during the season. Almost any major move would result in the team having to adjust its style of play to accommodate a new starter and not having any significant practice time to do it. He may want to let this year play out and make his adjustments in the off-season.

As poorly as they have played this year; I don' think he would need to be too worried about accommodating a new player.

I think that it's entirely likely that he'll give the team up until the All-Star break to see if they can turn it around like last year.

I would agree with that being very much the impression I'm getting from talking to a number of different people. It seems we will have to wait until this summer for something more substantial.

For example, what does a team like Philly have in terms of a rush to do something now versus this summer? They aren't in a Playoff race so whether they do something now or later doesn't really make a difference.

Noel will become a RFA this summer. If they are not certain - they will wait until the summer, but if they are certain they do not like to keep him for a large amount - it makes sense to try and move him now.

I honestly have no idea what their thinking is - but I can see a reason for them to try and deal him soon.

Exactly right. That would be a reason for an individual player like him. He is Embiid's best friend so I think they are trying to figure out if there is any way that would work and they move Okafor instead.

A lateral move could be a very good thing for this roster full of redundancies.

I doubt Neil would allow a deal get to TBPup's ears, guys. Saying that Neil has made inquiries is not news. Almost every team is making inquiries at this time of the year. Even the top teams (Korver trade).

Without naming names, TBPup does have a source of info, and has for years.

At one time, that source had very good connections within the Blazers organization.

I do not believe the Blazers connection is true anymore, however, the source still has connections to player agents, and possibly to other teams. Not sure about the last part but pretty sure on the agent part.

^^^^ @KingSpeed, doubting hater...lol. Now worries. I get that the details are few slim. The sources on this have been very reliable in the past and I have no reason to doubt them now. As mentioned, very little comes from Portland anymore but other teams may not be so tight and having some acquaintances with a few agents over the years hasn't hurt. I've only been on here a couple of years but on a previous board, a buddy of mine and I had dead on information that sometimes we could hint at and sometimes couldn't say a word.

We went to a Draft Party on year and a couple of the local newspaper blog guys came over to our table because we were posting stuff ahead of time that came out completely true faster than they were even getting rumors. Good times. Wish you could have joined us for those.

That's pretty much losing another first round pick for nothing........that would be two first round picks he's traded that gave ya nothing in the long run.
I'm talk By about that horrific afflalo trade
The Afflalo trade was a fantastic move when it was made. Wes' Achilles tendon exploding made it turn out not so good.
