Stotts needs 2 new assistants. One a DC as everyone has been mentioning. He also needs a new "Big Man" coach who will get on LMA's ass about establishing DEEP position and maintaining it.

Two intriguing hires for assistants

George Karl and Gary Payton

Good points. This is exactly as far as we can get with the style of play we have currently. We need to play real defense.

Analytics will help Stotts listen; 538.com had a great article about how steals are criminally underrated, and are worth way more than any other play in the NBA. We ranked last in steals this year. If we improve one and only one aspect of defense, it should be that.

It took him too long to put Nic on Parker. It was an obvious move and he didn't do it until game four.

Is the question can stotts turn a team into a championship contender? Or that a stotts coached team can win a championship?

This team can win a championship without changing coaches.

Stotts would not be the guy to take some one like Utah further. He's not a development coach. There is no reason terry stotts should be worried about job security.

Letting Dame get reps against the best PG in the league is good experience. I doubt putting Nic on Parker from the beginning would have netted us an additional win, just closer losses. All told, it was a slow uptake, but hopefully things improve on that front.

Has his detractors, but how can you take the team away from him given what he has done. Needs an assistant who can run
some defensive sets. Also need to work on his set plays a bit, they drive me crazy sometimes.

I like Terry, and I don't think he's a bad coach by any means, but I don't think he's the guy to get us a championship. I've felt that way the moment we hired him. He's not a bad coach, but I don't think he's ever going to be on the same level as Pop. Of course, there's very few coaches on his level.

You think What's His Butt for Miami is on Pop's level?

It's all about the players, man. We've got the starters, and we need a bench. The guy in the suit isn't as important.

This anime cat girl?!?

Stotts is growing as a coach just like the team is growing. We have good pieces in place, just exceeded expectations. This is absolutely the wrong time for a big shake up, this is a time many here don't remember, its fine tune time.

Exactly.

Rome was not built in a day.

Even that smug POS Popovich did not build his empire in just two seasons. And what he has going now is a testament to his longevity. Teams often forget this when they fire their coaches on a whim. Given how Terry (and Neil) has done in just two years, he deserves to come back.

Popovich won a title in his first 2.5 seasons as coach.
