Consumer spending grew just 0.2% in May, the smallest gain this year, and down from a 0.6% gain in April. Worse, after inflation May consumer spending declined by 0.4%, the worst showing this year. Why? After-tax inflation-adjusted income has been declining for a year, albeit this month by just 0.1%. Thus, the savings rate has steadily declined from 10.4% in 5/21 to 5.4% in 5/22, nearly a decade low.
Doing a lot of driving here on the Big Island. Yesterday's fill up was $86........It other news, I saw gas below $5 today for the first time in a bit. I know oil dropped below $100, not that we'll see that at the pump any time soon. Way too many factors.
I had some chocolate covered macadamia nuts the other night. Closest I can get to the big island any time soon. That might be a honeymoon spot in a few months.Doing a lot of driving here on the Big Island. Yesterday's fill up was $86........

And currently, flying into Kona is very much cheaper than flying into Hilo.Flights for October were under $300. As long as you plan ahead of time, you can find good deals.
I left my truck parked at the Hilo airport for two years and when we got back there it was covered in dust with a dead battery...the guys who worked there jump started it for me and I drove off like it was yesterday....not many airports where you could leave a car for two years and find it when you got back..one of the most chill airports on earth...that parking lot was always emptyAnd currently, flying into Kona is very much cheaper than flying into Hilo.
There seems to be abandoned cars all over the Island.....and no one seems too concerned. But then, between the climate and the shitty roads and highways, vehicle longevity isn't a thing here.......I left my truck parked at the Hilo airport for two years and when we got back there it was covered in dust with a dead battery...the guys who worked there jump started it for me and I drove off like it was yesterday....not many airports where you could leave a car for two years and find it when you got back..one of the most chill airports on earth...that parking lot was always empty
My first car on the island was a 250 dollar rust bucket Toyota hatchback that I soon found out...every other Hawaiian I met had owned at one time or another.....car theft has a short shelf life on an island with one 3oo mile long road. They'll find your car. I never took the keys out of the ignition of my car there...seemed pointless. There seems to be abandoned cars all over the Island.....and no one seems too concerned. Have you been to the Hilo dump? There are huge Banyon trees growing through old 1940s cars..it's really abstract to see. There are transfer stations all over the Island and we go every 3-4 days but I haven't been to the Hilo site. Mountainview is closed because a tree fell on the roof covering the drop boxes (and Island Time decrees there is no big hurry to fix it). So we use the Volcano station. You meet all kinds of interesting folks at these places. And if you're looking for a free range chicken dinner, the transfer stations are like open air supermarkets. All you have to do is be crafty enough to catch them......Have you been to the Hilo dump? There are huge Banyon trees growing through old 1940s cars..it's really abstract to see.
Idk where to say this....this thread seems as good as any.
Nebraska is full of it with their homeless numbers. Either I stumbled about the two places they all hang out, or they are lying about their numbers.
They fudged their covid death totals the first year of lockdown to keep the hospice elderly care biz thriving...they didn't want to lose new clients so all those covid deaths were chalked up to old age....Nebraska has a lot of senior care facilities. My high school girlfriend's family owns most of them. Nebraska also has a few really large Native american reservations that used to be pretty impoverished...not sure how they are in 2022Idk where to say this....this thread seems as good as any.
