Of course wealthy people don't mind sales tax! It's nothing to them.
And it allows them to pay a smaller share of the overall tax revenue than other forms of tax would.

"a bunch of poor people spend money on ipones, TVs, streaming, cars"
now where have I heard that before? Oh yeah,
"your daughter doesn't need 37 dolls, 3 will do"

Wealthy people buy expensive cars and boats, clothes, luxury items, restaurants, etc. It adds up a lot. Also business pay a lot of sales tax as well.

While income taxes seem more progressive one big problem in Oregon is it doesn't give any of the large personal standard deductions or exemptions like federal taxes do. So poor people effectively pay a lot more. Also the wealthy have plenty of ways to delay or eliminate income tax. IMO Oregon should just have Oregon taxable income be the same as federal taxable income. Would be much simpler too. Sales tax doesn't have ways to get out of it or deductions like income taxes do.

The states without income tax like Washington, Texas, Florida, Nevada, etc greatly incentivize high earning people and high earning business to locate there, and they get a ton of sales tax revenue from those individuals.

Personally I don't know that I would ever move back to Oregon full time as just the income tax hit alone makes it so much more affordable to have my primary home in a different state or in Vancouver. Most my work is remote. I bet there are a lot of others who think similarly - so Oregon has more and more average to above average earners leaving the state and taking their money with them.

The comments to this tweet are just sad.

The owner of a Telluride ski resort is going to shut down rather than pay his employees who work for the Ski Patrol $30/hr instead of the $22 they're currently making.

$30 seems very fair. You want to pay the people who are in charge of safety a fair wage. They're dealing with a lot of drunk, dumb, and dangerous people every day.

Comments are saying the typical BS, you don't need to pay them that much because they are 2nd jobs for most, and they get to ski for free.

I'm sure the ones working 2 jobs have a ton of time for free skiing.

Agreed, although to be fair, my friends and I aren't in Telluride every day.

Sure, but speeches and symbolism are an important first step.
You don't get to do shit if you don't have the votes, and you don't have the votes unless you've done the hard work of convincing people (regular voters or congressional voters or both).
That commenter seems to think AOC can change things just by voting differently herself. Not the way it works.
Protest votes are useful in certain circumstances as messaging (speeches and symbolism!), but they can't change the outcome in a positive direction.
AOC is smart enough to understand that she doesn't have the power to change everything all by herself.
You legislate with the Congress you have, not the Congress you might want or wish to have at a later time.
