It’s Time to Start Over...

He didn’t insult just one post, he said everything I post is garbage... I’m pretty sure that is a personal insult. Either way, I never insult anyone’s post or character unless they come at me first... I’m not gonna sit quiet. Disagree with me and debate... don’t call all my posts garbage.
If you honestly consider an attack on your posts as an attack on you personally, then that's on you, not the critic. Most of us are fully capable of compartmentalizing our content and our character.

Here's the problem, GB, you seem to have inordinate belief that your opinions are always facts, and that those who disagree with you are closed-minded homers. Time after time when people start posting here with that kind of attitude it ends badly.
There seems to be a lot of newer posters on here with this same way of doing business. I strongly believe this is why this place has slipped a bit.

In fairness, he only insulted your posts (calling them garbage); you actually insulted him (calling him a nobody). It's a subtle difference, but it's pretty much the only rule this forum has. Attack the post, not the poster.
I kind of agree with you here...... dviss is
I guess I just don't care if people call my posts garbage. Hell, my posts ARE garbage.
I 2nd this FAMS!

I insulted the post not the poster. Forum rules followed. Everything you do post is garbage. 2nd THIS is the personal attack:

just don’t want to waste my time posting here with low level people

Now, since we're such "low level people".... you probably shouldn't waste your time.

Attacking the post is just a passive-aggressive way of attacking the poster.

I really don't have a horse in this race as I am laughing my ass off. :biglaugh:

Also, the point of a forum is for fans to freely post their thoughts. I respect opposing opinions even if I strongly disagree with them. If you want to turn this into a place to insult each other I’ll leave this forum. The rest of you can all hold hands and agree on everything.
Yeah, you can post freely, but if the majority of people think it's ridiculous, they'll attack it. So when you say "Rebuild around Connaughton, trade Dame", that opinion will get attacked. Most regular posters have had this happen to them at one point or another.

If you've never had an opinion attacked, then you've never posted a strong opinion.

Well, now that they're back into 6th place, and only 1 game out of 5th place, I say it's time to NOT start over!

After dropping down to 9th seed last night, I think it’s time to move on from the McLillard experiment and start the rebuild process. Sitting at 9th after having the easiest schedule in the NBA to this points, with a healthy roster and full training camp for Nurkic, there are no more excuses. We have seen a big enough sample size to know this will not work. We need to sell high on Lillard and CJ before it’s too late. Build around Collins, Nurkic, Pat... get some lotto picks in what should be a very talented group in the top 10. I don’t want to have to rebuild but it’s the sad reality. We have the toughest second half schedule and will not keep up with teams ahead of us. I don’t see a trade that can turn the season around. And even more so than just record, they just don’t play well... I mean dead last in NBA in assist?! This is a failed experiment.

After reading your first post in the thread, I immediately dismissed it as not worthy of response. Not because I disagree with your opinion. Differing opinions spur discussion, which is the whole point of this forum.

For me, you immediately lost all credibility by stating things as facts, that aren't:

"Sitting at 9th after having the easiest schedule in the NBA to this points"

Not true and easily verified. At this point in the season, we are ranked 24th in SoS. We had had an easier than average (average = .500) schedule, but there is really very little difference between the 8th toughest schedule (.508) and the 26th (.488). Stating, as fact, that we have had the easiest schedule immediate makes you lose credibility with me.

"We have the toughest second half schedule"

Again, not a fact. First, as they say on Wall Street: Past performance is no guarantee of future results. All forward looking SoS calculation are projects based on all teams' records to date. But some teams will get better and some teams will get worse. There will be trades, there injuries, teams will rest their veterans, teams will tank, etc. All that said, I have not seen a single projection showing the Blazers have the toughest second half schedule. If you're going to make such a claim, state (or better, link to) your source.

To me, this is your most egregious transgression:

"will not keep up with teams ahead of us"

This is a faulty conclusion, based on inaccurate data, stated as fact. You claim we have had the easiest schedule in the league, which we have not, and then conclude we will not be able to keep up with the teams ahead of us. Of the four teams we are battling with for the 5 - 8 seeds, all have had slightly easier than average schedules to date. Three of the four have had comparable schedules to the Blazers.

Here are the SoS ratings for those four teams, compared to the Blazers:

NOP = .499
LAC = .491
POR = .489
OKC = .488
DEN = .486

So, if we've kept up with them so far, why exactly will we not be able to keep up with them going forward? When you state an opinion as fact, you better be able to back it up.

I'm not trying to be a dick, I'm trying to help you understand why people are being so dismissive of your opinions. For me, its the way you immediately undermined your own credibility. Your first post came across as an emotional reaction to losing three games in a row. You had come to a conclusion and then made up #alternatefacts to support it.

Your post came across much more this:

http://www.espn.com/nba/stats/rpi yea we are 17th in SoS so not sure where your getting this we have the easiest schedule and i'm not sure where you are getting that we have the hardest schedule rest of the way. Harder compared to what? Its not the hardest in the league or even the western conference.

That's sorted by RPI, not SoS.

BTW, OKC is the team that's really underperformed. They have played a comparable schedule to POR, with an EWL ((expected Won - Loss) record of 29-16, but sit at just 25-20. This is a direct reflection of their inability to win close games during the Westbrook Hero Ball era.

No biggie. That's the default sorting option within the page. If you click on the column headings, it will resort the order based on your desired parameter.
