boo.....if that means moving the team at least....count me out

lol....sure, let's imagine the absolute worst possible outcome and settle for status quo because of it.

Did Paul Allen move the team when he bought it?

I stand by my point.....every rumor about buying the Blazers I've read since Paul passed has them moving to Seattle or Vegas.....that's what I think selling the team means today....not when Paul bought it but honestly...I don't believe Paul wanted Jodi to sell the team at all...nor do I think the franchise will blow it up like this thread and others suggest. I also don't think things are so dramatically dire in Blazerland......we'll be fine this season. It's just next man up time

there has not been a single "rumor" about the Blazers being sold. All there has been is some speculation from people who know nothing about it

there may be just as much chance that Jody Allen moves the Blazers to Seattle as a new owner moving them to Vegas

What bullets does he have in the chamber to make a big move? CJ was the biggest trade piece that you could move with some stuff added to make a splash, obviously that is gone for the time being along with a pair of nice pieces in Nurk/Zach that could have been added. You can't trade away a 1st round pick until the 2nd one to Houston is conveyed, so there goes that option unless you're talking picks WAY down the line. Simons/Trent haven't shown any real value at this point and the team is right up against the luxury tax threshold. There really is no where for Olshey to go at this point, that's why people were begging for a change up this offseason, instead it was more of the same 'retooling'.

There have been lots of rumors about the Blazers being sold to a larger market .....you may not have paid attention but your statement is wrong...nobody is saying a deal was on the table....that's why they're called rumors...but no rumors had the Blazers staying in Portland after being sold from my reading over the last couple years.....maybe people writing about basketball don't know anything about basketball....you could be correct. This place sure has some wild speculations over the years.....I want the Blazers in Portland for the rest of my life...we have solid ownership right now...to me this whole thread is a meltdown over Olshey and the job he's done....I don't think he caused one injury but I could also be wrong about that.

Not sure the team would fetch a great price the way things are now pandemic wise?
What is the team worth before and after Covid?

Teams are selling for billions of dollars for a reason ... this team would fetch a big number for Jody if/when she decides to sell. Have to remember that one of the rarest commodities for these wealthy people is the clout that comes with owning a professional sports team, especially in one of the big three leagues.

start melo at SG obviously.
I thought Hood looked really good playing next to Dame....he also has played alot with Enes....Trent can shoot with a green light off the bench...Melo be Melo....plug and play when you need a bucket

Neil is scraping as we speak :wook:

Oh, come on, riverman. I thought that he looked good for the first time all season too. I guess we'd both better make appointments with the eye doctor. Clearly, we're not capable of only seeing the negative.

I was told she will sell evetually - meaning not to distant future - by someone i trust 100% Whether that means next year or in five years, I dont know. he didnt know. But this person doesn't make shit up and works in the NBA.

If they don't get fans back to the arenas a lot of teams might be considering cutting losses....fortunately in our case...ownership has really deep pockets

That was the speculation shortly after PA died. That being she wasn't interested in long term ownership of the Blazers like she was of the Seahawks; and that the sale of the Blazers would raise enough capital to cover the estate tax on the Seahawks

sometimes, it takes years to sort out all the details of a gigantic complex estate like PA had. Even if she wanted to sell, right now, there may be issues preventing a sale and it's worth keeping in mind that the Blazers and the Rose Garden appear to have different ownership structure. If eventually a sale is negotiated that includes the Rose Garden as part of the price, that would be good news in terms of the Blazers staying in Portland

and what I said earlier was that there was a difference between rumors and speculation

but, if she is going to sell, sooner or later, there's no need to have angst about it. We can't do anything about it. And again, if selling sooner, rather than later, means that GM and coaching changes happen sooner, I'm on board

With hood and Trent we should be fine at SG. We’re gonna at the very least be better defensively.

The biggest issue will be when Dame is off the floor. Olsheys golden child hasn’t really shown he can handle the job and it also doesn’t seem like Stotts trusts him. But there is no other internal option, so he has to play. I’d give the experiment somewhere around ten games and then reevaluate.

Selling doesn't mean moving? Matter of fact if the seller is smart they sell it to a buyer who wants to stay solid in this market. Maybe a group of buyers?

I got that also from a person pretty close. They are going to be sold eventually but there is no rush and the buyer has to be right is what i have heard. Possibly group of buyers. These things take time.

They won't sell with the arena deal in place is what i am thinking.

Tank?

This team should never tank, and with Dame at the helm, thankfully would never tank.

What does tanking get you? The possibility of maybe getting a high draft pick that in 5 years might be a good player?

Glad you're not in charge.

Serious question - is there a scenario (short of the entire league getting COVID or the best players on every team getting hurt) where this team, fully healthy, wins a championship?

absolutely...(but you have to buy refs or it's a moot point).....there's a lot of season left...what happened to us can happen to the Lakers...any team....hell Klay Thompson went down right after coming back...it's the luck of the draw as to who gets to the playoffs clicking and peaking at the right time and which one is hobbling into the first round. There's more parity talent wise in the league than I've ever seen in the NBA....I enjoy it...

What options does he have available? Very few. Stotts coaching decisions could change this team too. They need to fix the issues they've had with or without CJ and Nurkic.

Tank is always a bad way to go i agree.
That really isn't the question though. It's about playing players that need time on the court to improve. Some call it "Tanking". Others call it trying to improve your roster from within.
This team right now has three starters out. They will be out for 2-3 months.
What is your option? Start trading players and add some two ways?

So take the mish mash roster he has at the moment and try to implement a different style on offense and defense.
Add some two way players and get a ring?
The Op actually says that Stotts needs to look for different lines ups and change the style to fit them but you have to remember. Damian Lillard is still going to play. Dame does not run. Dame does not throw lobs. Dame doesn't even really move the ball around a bunch. Dame shoots and drives and dishes. On defense Dame is average. Roco has not been scoring well. Jones has had flashes but his shooting has been way off and it's hampered his ability to break to the basket. Melo isn't ever going to be anything other than Melo. Kanter is a beast around the rim and his defense has improved but we all watched him get handled by Poeltl. Nurk would have played much better against the Spurs. Giles needs minutes and could get better but to this point has underwhelmed. Trent seems to be the answer to replace CJ at this point but he is not going to create. 1M isn't getting it done and he also cannot hold the fort down while Dame is out? Hood might continue to improve? Lets hope so?
If Stotts keeps this team at or above .500 until he gets Nurk, CJ, and Collins back they will scrap their way to the 8th seed again. That is the best you are going to get if-
Stotts coaching decisions could change this team too. They need to fix the issues they've had with or without CJ and Nurkic.

It's that simple. You can't fix issues the players have had without the players playing.

What options does he have available? Very few.

I think you nailed the main issue: We have a roster with very few desirable assests to make moves.

If we had good players on good contracts, we'd have a ton a flexibility to make moves.

No one is moving this team, even if it's sold.

Aside from an ironclad lease that goes into the middle of this decade, the NBA hates having teams move, especially from an established market like Portland The Sonics moved almost two decades ago. The Kings were not allowed to move. It's bad for the NBA brand, to show disloyalty and have a bunch of pissed off fans.

Finally, what market would be better than Portland? Dumb business move.

"Ironclad" lease that goes into the middle of the "Decade"?
You are acting like 3-4 years is a long time? It's 2021....
I agree moving this team would be stupid. I also agree moving most likely won't happen but this team is going to sell eventually.

Sit Dame for the rest of the year and get a top 5 pick. Fire Stotts, get a new system and start fresh next year....that’s what I would do
Me too. 0% chance of course, and no reason for Neil to do that but it would be my pick as well.
