When he returns to Moda Center next season, Aldridge will get booed. He'll be disliked on many levels. But one day, Aldridge will return again, have his jersey retired, and many will cheer.

But today, if the other side of Aldridge's decision -- family, happiness and the pursuit of championships during his final years -- can't be respected, then maybe there was never any real respect for Aldridge at all.

Not as long as Paul owns the team it won't be, nor should it be. Nice little jab at the fans at the end there, too.

I thought of Jabari Parker when I read the thread title.

Zach Randolph's number will be retired before LaMarcus Aldridge's. Fact is, he was Sidney Wicks with a few more years under his belt. In my mind, he never played for the Blazers. I'll just see an asterik where his name was in the box score.

Is Jabari going back to the Spurs now that his false flag campaign is done?

It's gotten to the point where I'm going to have to unfollow him on Twitter after we sign most of our free agents because you know he's going to give us all of the Spurs talk during the season we totally care about.

Jabari is not from here, he is not a part of Rip City, and he is so dead wrong I would bet my house on it that his number won't be retired unless there's a different last name attached some day.

I could wax nostalgic here but the short answer is that LaMarcus is an ex-employee with a lot of good stats. But there are a long list of former power forwards who took us much farther into the play offs and their jerseys won't ever be retired. He's just stats in the books, he's not a Blazer hero. I can't believe the guy would insult the fans like that.

Buck Williams is a good example of that. He was one of my favorites as a kid.

I like Jabari and deep down think he is a good guy but...

I do think he is off on this. If Roy's work wasn't worthy in having his number retired to thus point. I can't ever see LA's number being retired. And I don't think it should be.

I think Roy did more overall for the franchise than LA ever did in his 9 years.

Oh shit, we should retire Roy's number when San Antonio's in town.

Excellent idea. Hell, let's then retire Zach's number the second time SA is in town.

And let's sign a middle-aged, undersized guy with a beer belly and no athletic talent whatsoever to be the 15th man and wear #12. I volunteer to be that guy.

No way, I'll do it and shoot 22 foot fadeaways all game.

I could see hanging his jersey in the concourse...stuffed with Blazers swag and sticks to hit it with located conveniently.

God, let's put all of those names except the last one on one #12 jersey and retire them all.

It really is ironic he'd say this considering how much heat the rest of the NBA gave us for retiring Clyde Drexler's number. Remember how pathetic other team's fans thought we were for retiring a number for a player who never won us a championship eventhough he's the greatest player, statistic wise, to ever play for the team.

No retire Aldridge and Bates on the same jersey, that way AldridgeBates will be seen by all.

He at least helped our team reach 2 finals appearances. Heck, he even matched up with the GOAT and gave us a great rivalry!
