Jack Ramsay says Trail Blazers have 'similar components' of 1977 team

That's just not true. Well, they both have basketball players, but that's about where the similarities end.

It's true; plus, you were there, while this Ramsey fellow is just some old man...

...

...

*cough*

I see similarities too.........minus the MVP and greatest passing center ever to play. (Yes he was even a better passer than Sabonis)

'kind of reminiscent'

“I think this team is great,” Ramsay said. “Everybody is pulling a share of the load. They’re getting critical performances from a lot of people: The point guard, big forward and center. That’s three critical positions. And then the other starters are filling in and guys off the bench are stepping up. All these things have to happen if you’re going to have a good team. And they have a chance to be a great team.”

'similar components'

“They can match up with anybody, they defend well and they can score when they need to,” Ramsay said of the Blazers. “I think (coach) Terry Stotts has done an incredible job with that group. It’s kind of reminiscent of the Trail Blazers team that I got when I first came to Portland. Nobody expected anything from that team — they had never had a .500 season — but everybody did his share. I think this team has similar components.”

That's just not true. Well, they both have basketball players, but the 1977 team had more good white players.

Come on now, we know that's what you really wanted to say.

I'd say he got that entirely backward. They score well and can defend when they need to.

But that's not true. There have never been better Jewish Blazer players than on this current team.

But the '77 team did practice at the mittleman jewish community center.

Can see what you mean, but I think he knows what he's talking about. The team defends good overall. Mathews/Batum/Wright have the ability to guard SF's and SG's, two high scoring positions pretty well. Then there's LMA who is a great man defender and Lopez who defends the paint fairly solid.

LMA has been a go-to reliable scorer, and has opened up the floor for the 3pt shot that we often need. Then there's Lillard, the kid is absolutely clutch, no matter how well he's playing in a game it seems like he can always get us a bucket in the 4th quarter when needed most. IMO, the consistent scoring down the stretch is what has made this team so much better than last year.

Oh shit BRoy is gonna hound Ramsey, saying he doesn't know what he's talking about!

Sometimes watching the game goes well beyond the stats. The eye test from one of the greatest coaches in Blazer history thinks they defend well. I'm in good company!

Without a terrific passing big man, the "similarity" isn't very similar.

Oh sure, NOW you guys like Jack Ramsay, but the second he says something negative about the team, he'll be a hack!

Whatever makes you feel better man.:dunno:

I'm fairly sure you know my opinion about the Blazers defense. What's the point in asking?

So the answer is yes then, if your position is the same. That's unfortunate that you can't look past stats like the great Jack can.

Don't you disagree with Jack too? You said they were mediocre. Jack says they're good.

I said they are a summarized mediocre defense. But I've said countless times that they are stellar in the second halves. You can find quotes all over the threads that support them.

And I believe this is what Jack is talking about. Play defense when it matters and that's the second half!

Whatever works for you.

The Blazers have Jewish players? News to me. Who?

I just heard on the radio that Jack Ramsay's health has taken a big turn for the worse in the last few days.
