What, do you want 20 PER off your bench? lol

I'll take 15 PER with good defense. Or 17 PER with average defense.

Or, yes, 20 PER with lousy defense.

Or... a young guy with potential to improve.

I don't want 15 PER with lousy defense and no upside.

For what it's worth, @JCrossover was under impression he would come off the bench in Portland, which he is fine with. Wants to have freedom

Dear providers of good news,

We Portland Trail Blazer fans need some good news. Now granted, we know that we're lucky in that the team has stayed in Portland and not vacated their home much like our forlorn neighbors to the north. However, you can't deny that we have been dealt several blows over the last 10+ years. Even the good news (making it to game 7 of the WCF's, getting Brandon Roy, him winning the ROY, getting the #1 pick) is followed up by repeated kicked to the shins (losing game 7, Brandon Roy's career being cut way too short, Greg Oden suffering from repeated injuries and never being able to fully live to his potential).

Please give us this morsel of long lasting good news.

Much appreciated.

So he knows he's gonna have the green light coming off the bench. He'll be our microwave!

So let's say Crawford decides to pick Portland. Aside from the warm fuzzy feeling we're all likely to get when the girl at the dance picks us instead of the funny looking redheaded dweeb next to us (Sacto) what then?

I think he'll add some depth and some scoring ability to the bench, but when you factor in his '_efense', does he move the wins and losses needle more than say, playing Nic or Eliot Williams in the role of sixth man or backup 2 guard? Secondly, if it comes down to Crawford or Landry who would be the better investment?

Who knows maybe I'm really underestimating him, but I'm still waiting to be convinced that this move significantly changes the outlook of the team.

The team wasn't too bad last year and then this year we lose Roy for sure and we never had Oden at all last year. So we now add Crawford to replace Rudy and his no defense and poor shooting.

What's not to like about Crawford?

There's nothing wrong with him, he's fine. I just wonder if the minutes you get out of him add up to a higher win percentage or +/- than the alternatives already on the Blazers' roster.

Who else do you see as better than we can get/have?

Do we really think rookie Ewill or Nolan will have 15 - 20 PER for the year?

I am excited for the young guys to get a chance, but if we are trying to win games, I feel and I'm damn sure the coaching staff feels better calling on Jamal Crawford then the rookies! Remember Armon Johnson's run last year? WHat did it last 7 games til the other teams scouted him and figured him out. Just like Kurt Thomas. He is perfect. He is gonna give us way more production then CHris Johnson or Earl Barron. Just like Juwan helped us a couple seasons ago.

To your other question is Crawford a better bet than Landry if we have to make that decision. Sounds like the front office may think we could get both and at least one. I think this team has a good chance to compete well this year if we get both.

On the other hand, if they are gonna trade GW and Camby mid season and blow this up, I say go with the young bucks!

I think you are basically right about this as long as no one gets hurt. Right now I am fine with having Smith back up Felton, and Williams back up Wes, especially if Batum can play some SG as well.

On one hand I want the depth Crawford brings, and on the other hand I want to see how E. Williams can progress with playing time. I guess I am fine with either scenario.

We get BOTH those guys we are a 6 seed in the West. Without BOTH those guys, I say we miss the post season.

I like that they are building a strong bench. The bench is only a few moves away from being solidified, if plans go through.

PG: Nolan Smith
SG: Jamal Crawford
SF: Nicolas Batum (temporary, obviously)
PF: Carl Landry
C: Robin Lopez (this is somebody I'd look to add. He'd fit in well with Nate's system. Big and defensive oriented. Could be Przybilla-esqe)

I agree with this. With the shortened season we just don't have time to "bring the kids along slow."

No but he's on a cheap contract. I don't think he'd be too hard to get.

I guess I don't understand your logic then. If he's productive AND on a cheap contract, why in the world would Phoenix want to part with him? Isn't "cheap and good" pretty much the holy grail in professional sports?

Well, he's not productive yet. He's shown flashes. But remember, Przybilla was hot garbage his first five years in the League. Lopez has solid defensive instincts. He's just not consistent at all. Will take a while to develop, like Przybilla.

I guess my recollection of Robin Lopez's play is a little hazy, I thought he was doing pretty well as a defensive big for Phoenix.

Thats what I remember. Phoenix is not going to just give him away for cheap to us, he is their center of the future.

Why do people still quote or put links up from anything that clown types! Sorry Fez, don't want to give that hack credit for me going to his website!

I would prefer having Carl Landry on our roster next season. However, I think he is staying in NO, and was just waiting for the CP3 crazyness to wrap up before inking a new deal. Probably 4 years for $29 million or so.

But lets say we can sign him, he is going to want max MLE, 4 years $21 million. We can get Crawford on a one year contract, between those two options that tilts the scales towards Crawford IMO if we have the choice. Not being locked into a multi-year contract is a huge benefit. Some of our other big MLE acquisitions are guys like Derek Anderson, Ruben Patterson which often don't work out. Crawford's contract has much less downside.

Although either player would be an awesome addition to our bench and I would sign either this second if they were willing. I think both are good values worth more then the price of their contract.
