OT Jamelle Hill/ESPN

Schilling had a long history of comments deliberately insulting marginalized groups. He was repeatedly warned, then canned.

Hill expressed an opinion about one uber privileged person.

I mean, do we really need to keep repeating the same thing in words of one syllable?

OK.
Curt is white so right says he is OK.
Hill is black so right says fire her.

Words of one syllable.
Who is saying that? Schilling, Bill Simmons, HWjr and Linda Cohn were suspended or fired for saying something ESPN denounced. Hill said something they also came out and denounced, but she got a stern talking to, and nothing else. She happens to be black. I don't care what color she is, ESPN is wrong

I agree and in protest of this I refuse to go to Disneyworld this year. That will show ESPN's corporate masters that we mean business!

Do you actually keep a record of people you help by race?

Interesting.

I put a black guy in the lead in a negotiation of a joint Project with the UK once too. Yes I did it because he brought one of the strong characteristics many black people have.
We were in the bar of this ancient thatched rood hotel in Winchester when he asked me, MarAzul, why did you bring me on this trip? I sipped my scotch, futzed around abit when,
he came with, You wanted me to make um dance didn't you?

We were successful.
:cool2:

My lead white guy was a smart designer, but damn! I will leave it there... The two were a complementary team.

Im not. I think she should have been suspended or fired because previous employees were, for extremely similar actions. I tgink ESPN is wrong, and it's a double standard

Fair enough. When comparing what she said to HWJr and Simmons yeah. But Curt Schilling has ALWAYS been a peice of shit racist who has espoused his views pretty vocally.

Please don't bring him up in comparison. It's really apples to asparagus.

If you truly believe there are people who want Spicer dead then Jesus I don't know where to go from there.

Liberals made FUN of his idiocy. That's what we do.
I was kidding. He's just a mouthpiece. He could have said the Earth was flat and I wouldn't care.

Ironically he was not fired for racist tweets

I can see the equivalence with her and HWJr. I don't know anything about what Simmons said. But what schilling did was fucked up and he deserves to be fired. Equating that is just false.

I disagree. Schilling espoused a viewpoint that is pretty mainstream albeit not PC, just like "Trump is a white supremacist" is fairly mainstream and not PC.

That viewpoint is not mainstream at all. WTF are you talking about? It might be mainstream in YOUR circles but not the country as a whole.

How many companies pulled out of NC because of that "law"??

Learn America then post....

Espousing basic biology is pretty mainstream. I'd say a very large swath of the country would agree with Schilling there....

Anyone who says there is no such thing as white privilege:

Imagine, during the 2008 Presidential campaign, Barack Obama at a debate bragging about the size of his penis, being caught on tape claiming a right to sexually assault women, boasting about walking through dressing rooms where underage beauty pageant contestants were undressed. Would any black man who did that come close to being elected President?

Fact is, Obama had to be damn near perfect. Handsome, intelligent, athletic, perfect manners, Harvard pedigree, self-controlled, articulate and still "cool". The opposite of the current occupant of the White House.

Boom. Did it a second time and got suspended 2 weeks. Of course it's only because what she said might have an effect on ESPN's bottom line, by telling people to boycott the NFL.

So it's ok to commit defimation of character, as long as it doesn't cost ESPN money

Dumb move on her part.

The one thing that needs to happen is Trump needs to stop targetting citizens on twitter. She should have been suspended for her initial comments because others have been for their comments. She wasn't, but was this time for something basically unrelated. Trump needs to let it go

https://www.outkickthecoverage.com/espn-president-john-skipper-ripped-fox-news-la-meeting/

So ESPN president John Skipper had a scheduled meeting yesterday in Los Angeles and decided to take shots at me, Jason Whitlock, Rupert Murdoch, Donald Trump and Tucker Carlson in front of roughly 120 ESPN employees, many of whom are also big fans of Outkick who believe ESPN has lost its way over the past couple of years due to left leaning politics.

Those Outkick fans immediately reached out to me to share what was said in the meeting.

Per our ESPN sources in LA, Skipper began the meeting by addressing the Jemele Hill suspension and said that regardless of his personal fondness for Jemele Hill he had to suspend her for what she said about boycotting advertisers. (But not, of course, for calling the president, his staff, and his voters all white supremacists).

Skipper then attacked me by name, saying that Clay Travis is someone who’s out to get us and is spreading misinformation devoted to destroying ESPN. (I’d love to know what misinformation I’m spreading, since everything I’ve reported about ESPN has proven to be 100% accurate.)

He also attacked Fox News taking shots at Tucker Carlson in particular and pointed out that Fox News is losing even more subscribers than ESPN. (This isn’t actually true of course. Another source inside the meeting said the comment was that Fox News was losing the same number of subscribers as ESPN as opposed to more. But, again, that also isn’t true. ESPN has lost more subscribers over the past six years than virtually any channel).

Skipper then ripped former ESPN employee Jason Whitlock, which is interesting because my understanding is the two parties have a nondisclosure agreement which bars personal attacks as part of the settlement. So if I were Whitlock I would call my lawyers.

Skipper insisted “ESPN is not a political organization,” and said that he watches all ESPN channels all day long and never sees anything political on any of the channels. There were audible laughs inside the meeting when Skipper said this as many ESPN employees know that suggestion is full of shit.

In a question and answer session someone in the audience suggested “ESPN is being baited by Fox News because Rupert Murdoch is friends with Donald Trump.” Skipper agreed with the premise of the question and endorsed the idea of a right wing conspiracy designed to bring down ESPN to elevate Fox Sports. That’s probably because Skipper and ESPN tried to plant this very story in Sports Business Journal a couple of weeks ago.

(For the record, this notion is patently absurd. I have never met Rupert Murdoch and no one at Fox or Fox News has ever told me what to write or say. In fact, I’d welcome any Fox executive I’ve ever worked with to go on the record and discuss how frequently they’ve suggested I be less controversial and asked me to tone down my content. The reason Outkick is 100% independent now is because I specifically refused to allow anyone at Fox — or any other media company — to make any decisions about this site’s editorial direction other than me. I receive $0 from anyone at Fox Sports or Fox News or 21st Century Fox. This argument of a right wing media conspiracy designed to bring down ESPN is totally made up and the sad ramblings of the leader of a failing company.)

John Skipper did say repeatedly that ESPN talent needs to remember that their accounts aren’t personal and they have limitations on how far they can go with what they say politically. (Of course Disney CEO Bob Iger has said that Jemele Hill could call the president a white supremacist so long as her feelings were hurt so who knows what the actual standard is.)

More than half of the meeting and the question and answer session that followed was about the political atmosphere at ESPN, and according to Outkick sources much of it completely endorsed left wing politics and suggested anyone who didn’t have those same values was deserving of ridicule. In fact, Skipper made multiple jokes about Fox News and people in the audience laughed when those jokes were made.

So if you ever watch Fox News, you better hide that fact if you work at ESPN.

Thanks to our Outkick sources reporting from inside ESPN.

I’d write more, but my phone is buzzing and I have to answer and conference call with Rupert Murdoch, Donald Trump, Tucker Carlson, and Jason Whitlock about our vast right wing conspiracy to bring down ESPN.

So she comes out and says she deserved her suspention for her Trump comments. HEY Jamele, you weren't suspended for those comments. You were suspended for your NFL comments because it nay hurt the network

You've been wanting to ask me this for a bit I'm sure. I'm glad you feel comfortable enough to know I'll give a genuine answer. I find myself having these conversations often with white acquaintances that are curious about racial issues. For some reason they feel comfortable talking about this with me. I never really have to have them with my white friends and family because they already understand their privilege whether y'all believe it exists or not.

I've never condoned whiteface (I was like holy SHIT Dave!!! I couldn't believe he did it). I'll admit I laughed my ass off at Dave and Eddie playing those characters. I don't think they were being racist by playing them either. The Jewish character in Coming To America was genius. Dave's humor is comedic genius as well. He just has that ability to just skirt the line.

While I'll agree it's (whiteface/blackface) funny (from both sides (black jokes are funny to some people but they're still racist). We hate blackface not only because it's only used to ridicule and further separate us, but it was used in place of what could've been a black actor. :dunno:

Just like I don't use the term "white boy". Because the day my 41 year old ass is called "boy" is the day you'll see a racist eloquently put in their place.

Julianne got flak because she was ignorant of the fact that wading into those waters (whiteface/blackface) is kinda treacherous. I don't think she was being racist at all. Just HELLA naive.

Now those fucking blackface Halloween parties are racist AF tho...

So we agree. mocking a black person in black face is stupid and wrong.
Quiet boy.
