BREAKING NEWS: James Gandolfini, who played Tony Soprano on "The Sopranos, " died in Italy of a suspected heart attack. Developing story….

Re: RIP James Gandolfini

Shit, he's younger than me. He looks younger than HCP.

Damn. Loved his work.

Re: RIP James Gandolfini

Loved Soprano's everything else was meh to ok. Never understood why he wanted to quit that cash train when they had at least 3 more worthwhile season to go.......

Re: RIP James Gandolfini

Really sad to hear, and he was surprisingly young.

***SPOILER****

How would that work? Seems like the general consensus is that Tony Soprano got aced in the final scene.

The end of Soprano's was left open to interpretation, and Tony's getting wacked was of great debate. Even if they did mean to wack him in the finale they could have easily wrote him back in and said he wasn't wacked after all, or they could have left him dead and focused on his son or Nephew. Brillant show and I loved the ending, but it took me awhile of thinking about it before I decided I liked it. Funny, its not that old of a show but it was before cell phones were everywhere so watching it now makes it seem really dated.

David Chase has said something to the effect of "the answer (to what happened to Tony) is in the show" meaning to say you can figure out his fate if you look at the foreshadowing/clues leading up to that moment. We never got a concrete answer explicitly but it seems like he probably got whacked. There's a ton of stuff out there on the internet so I won't get into it but I think he did get whacked and it seems like on the interwebz and when I meet fellow fans, pretty much everyone thinks he got killed.

Anyway, it was a brilliant show and a brilliantly portrayed character by Gandolfini. He was awesome in the Last Castle too. I think I'll make an effort to see more of his work.

Also, anyone think of that line by Ralphie right before Tony kills him where he says something along the lines of "I've seen you eat sausage and red meat by the truckload!" when they heard the news?

My take on the final scene is that it was up to the viewer to decide. Plus, Don't Stop Believing was the final song in the series ... meaning, don't stop believing!

I read a lot of stuff about the ending also and I agree that thats probably what happened. Although I think David Chase's intent was to stir controversy and dialog about the ending rather than giving us a neatly wrapped finale and a difinitive answer. Either way, if they did a movie it would be pretty easy to write him in as dead or alive (before today obviously). They could still also easily do a spin off movie or show, or just a continuation of the Soprano's with other family members.

I never really liked his acting, but it's still extremely sad that he died so young. Dude was a year younger than my parents. It's a harsh reminder that the boomers are getting old and we need to appreciate them while they're still here. I'm just hoping my parents live long enough to see all three kids married, and hopefully all the grand kids. I had the privilege of knowing all my grand parents. I'm really hoping my kids will as well.

there was a hoax about his death online a few days ago...fucking weird

liked him in the mexican

Shame but not surprising, dude didn't put much effort into his health. Terrifying actor. His scenes from True Romance stick with me more than The Sopranos.

5 years younger than me. Fat don't pay.

Really sad day. Both Slim Whitman and Vince Flynn died today as well.

scary gotta do more cardio and eat right i guess.

The prepared notices of his death came out in error before his successful death.

This raises no suspicion in the controlled media.

The guy was younger than me, too. And, my brother, who is just two years older than me had a heart attack last April and quintuple bypass surgery last September. Shit like this is all the motivation I need to exercise and eat right.

BNM

He played a complete prick well in Crimson Tide.
