Jarrett Jack?

Apparently the Hornets are about to offload him to clear cap space. I wouldn't mind picking him up. Clearly I'm going senile, because I remember not missing him when he was traded. Something about dribbling the ball off his foot? Anyway, he's a great guy and had a pretty decent season last year and might be the solid veteran presence in the locker room now.

I'm insane aren't I? After all, it's not like we haven't got enough short 2 guards posing as PGs.

(Although it kills me that the only source is from Hornets247. I know the guys who run it, and they're mostly a buncha douchebags who give the impression that they just started watching basketball a few seasons ago, and now they're an ESPN affiliate.)

The Hornets got hosed. They pretty much just cut Jarrett Jack instead of acquiring any assets in return. Was it too much to ask the 76'ers for a second round pick? Not to mention, now this is putting their faith in Austin Rivers as their starting point guard.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I've missed him since he was traded. I loved his fire, work ethic, and he was a good guy in the locker room (and really smart). Remember how many times he and Brandon brought that young team back from huge deficits because they just wouldn't give up?

I know he has fond memories of his playing days here from interviews. I felt like Nate killed his confidence and he never really recovered all the way. He was trying so hard to play the coach's way and not his game. I think the reason he's been able to recover and have a serviceable career is because he has those intangibles.

Jarrett Jack is, always was, and always will be an average NBA player.

That said, having an average NBA player as your back-up PG is a luxury and would be a huge improvement over our current back-up PG situation.

And, Jack is used to being a back-up. Other than his second season in Portland and last year in New Orleans, he's been a back-up most of his career. I wouldn't mind getting him, if it didn't cost too much.

The problem is, it might cost too much. If Golden State keeps on winning and makes the playoffs, I think Jack will resign with them. It's a good situation for him, and the Warriors. He's not starting, but playing 26 MPG and is a significant part of their rotation and success. In his nine years in the league, this is only the second time he's been on a winning team. It may be tough to lure him away from that to back up Lillard for 10 - 12 MPG on a rebuilding Portland team.

Jack is pretty much what you think of when you look for the attributes that make up a good reserve guard. He's got a few too many warts to be a starter, but as a sixth man, who can score and distribute a little I always liked him.

I loved him. He worked hard and he was tough when he drove inside. Remember Gilbert Arenas?

McMillan had us focused on defense. We were the only team that Silly Gilly had never scored 30 points on. He was averaging something like that. We were at the bottom of our division and the Wizards were at the top of theirs. So he bragged on his blog a month in advance that he was going to score 50 on us. He continued to write it, laughing at us. I don't know about you, but on the ESPN board we were offended.

The day came. Jack held the ass to NINE POINTS and we blew them out, I think. The national media hardly noticed, of course, and just worshipped Arenas. We had one more game against them. He predicted 50 points AGAIN. Jack held him to only NINETEEN (this guy's averaging like 30) and we won again. Did the national media tell everyone we had humiliated Arenas? Of course not! We're the Blazers!

I like Jarrett Jack.

Apparently you've forgotten about the other Jarrett Jack - the one who couldn't run a fastbreak to save his life and who, more often than not, would step back out of bounds prior to launching a three in the corner. I have never been more frustrated watching a Blazer than I was watching Jack.

I wish we would have him. He is the perfect back up guard for a scoring guard like Lillard. He could come in and give us defense when we need to stop a scoring PG. Now we are stuck with back ups that can't score nor defend.

He would, depending on who we draft with our 2013 lottery pick, but most of his minutes would come at back-up PG. He's always been primarily a PG who has played spot minutes at SG.

Last year in New Orleans, he was their PG 58% of the time, but their SG only 2% of the time.

He is playing sg at all times he is on the court with curry (and playing sg more than pg this yr). So i guess i dont see the problem, 12-15 mpg at pg and 12-15 mpg at sg.

Hes the PG most of the time in GS. When he and Curry are together Curry mostly goes into full on SG mode and looked much better in November in that role with Jack running things.

I'd always been a fan of JJ's so I was excited when we picked him up. Hes been a brilliant addition and plays most of the crunch time minutes for GS. He's not a pure PG but he has a knack for getting assists, if that makes sense, and thats perfect when surrounded with players like Curry, Thompson, Lee, and Landry who are so good at making themselves available and making teams pay. With Curry at the helm vs. Jack at the helm its like two completely different offenses and GS can roll with whichever is working against any particular opponent. And Jack picks up the more difficult G to defend which hides Curry's putrid defense.
