Jason Quick stepping down as beat writer to be a columnist

He really sounded like he's just plain tired of Paul Allen's shenanigans.

It takes about four Mark Cuban's to = one Paul Allen in net worth but he knows how to spend his money wisely and isn't afraid to make big, bold moves.

Wow, I heard a little bit of his interview on the Bald Face Truth. He said that in the past he has used unnamed sources but from now on he's not going to. It's not very good journalism. Canzano started having a hissy fit, saying that you can't always do that. He said that if he only used named sources he wouldn't have been able to report that Cho wanted to suspend Roy during the playoffs.

If he follows it up by stepping down as a columnist, then I'm all in favor.

(Hey - I'm about to click on "Post Quick Reply" - how appropriate.)

He needed something new, he totally lost his fire as a beat writer

Crapzano's just pissed he'll have some competition

As a beat reporter you can't get 2nd jobs in radio and TV like Canzano and Jaynes.

isn't that what he says every year?

I'd like to see the Oregonian hire Ben from BlazersEdge to be their next beat reporter.

Or the guy who used to be with the Columbian and then took a job covering the Jazz in Utah.

I hope The Oregonian hires Brian T. Smith from Salt Lake City, dude was great for The Columbian. I have a feeling Freeman will be promoted, though.

I've never seen a guy ride his wife's rep more than Canzero! HAHAHA! As for Quick, why would ya want to spend your life covering a team that is completely lost right now? Smart move!

That's who I was thinking of! Him or Ben would be great.

Ah, columnist-land... where old sportswriters go to die, but never "quick"ly enough.

So now the O is going to have 3 washed-up bitter old sports-farts as columnists? Duin, Canzano, and Quick? Surely they can save some money by just making one of them write all 3 columns. It's all the same anyway. "Everything sucks nowadays, not like back when I was young."

At least now he doesn't have to pretend to be peeking through the blinds when he makes shit up.

I liked his Behind the Locker room door reports.

Writing game recaps and being lied to by Vulcans probably gets old after 10+ years.

Now we'll get to see the next beat writer trashed by the Message Board Experts.

I'll point out that Quick was right about Batum in the thread I posted from BBF, and this was only a few days after the draft, when most of us thought Batum was a Euro project.

^ somebody give him some butter, cause he's on a roll.

I thought he had stepped down as a beat writer a long time ago. I haven't really paid much attention to the O, but I thought he hadn't been doing game recaps for a season or two.

Not sure how that threads says anything about anyone (celt that Ed O apparently looks like Jack Black).

That is Jack Black... from Heat Vision and Jack.

Ed O.

Quick's job got much harder when Pritchard left. That's why the paper's mad about it. Quick saying he'll name all sources is an upbraid to Canzano, who reacted instantly in his inimitable style. If this becomes a competition, Cancer will lose, and he's worried. Also, PapaG will have to split hairs even more when he defends Canzano.

I don't really have an issue with Quick one way or another. At times I thought he made his stories far too much about him and his "feelings" and most of the rest of the time he did a nice job with features like his "Behind the Locker Room Door" stuff. I did get the feeling that the beat had worn on him and had made it difficult to remain objective, so moving to a columnist's role probably makes sense.
