I really agree and hate this lineup. I mean, the only good news is bayless has played well because of blake and miller starting but with that said... its only a matter of time till we get exposed running out this lineup IMO.

On the contrary, I think Thabeet is going to give us fits!

Well you know if you keep your hopes up for the Blazers to fail, sooner or later you will be right. I don't think it is against Memphis though. I am more scared of Zbo having one of his games than the guards.

One of the things the 3 guard line-up has done nicely, so far, was switch and load a side on the perimeter to help each other. Given that Memphis is one of the worst passing teams in the history of galactic basketball - I suspect that the individual advantage they might have (which I honestly do not know if they really have in the Gay/Roy matchup) - might not be that big of an issue - I think we will do OK in that aspect.

I wonder if we will see Miller on OJ or Miller on Conley, to be honest. Mayo has nice a handle - but I think that Conley is a better ball handler. For this reason it seems like Miller might be better guarding him.

We will see what happens tonight.

Why do so many people seem to think that Nate is going to be locked in to any one starting lineup? I suspect that he'll adjust it as needed depending upon the opponent.

No kidding, it's a "situational" lineup, too many here have their panties twisted in knots over this! LOL

I am guessing he is going to start with it - but if there are problems - he will start Webster earlier into the game.

Oh I completely disagree. The three guard line-up is designed to control dribble penetration. So I can't wait to watch how this works against teams with a quick line-up. Another match-up I am eagerly waiting for is Aldridge vs. Statbo. Usually Aldridge steps up his game against previous Blazer bigs. Hopefully that doesn't change tonight.

I can't wait watching Statbo having to chase Aldridge down the floor after he shoots with 1 second left on the shot clock.

Well, Jaynes is also worried about Gay manhandling Roy. Good for him. It seems like I rarely read something positive about the Blazers from Jaynes.

He is MIXUMizing the opportunities the Blogsphere gives to his rambling.

LMAO!!!!!!!!! Gay can't "man-handle" Roy. I can't wait for tonight.

I was really leary of this lineup becuase of some pre season lineups that failed miserably. The pre-season (and part of regular season) lineup that failed miserbably was Miller, Blake, Roy, Outlaw and Aldridge. That lineup flat out blew ass. The lineup with a real center (Oden or Pryz) along with Aldridge at PF has a lot more size to it, and the ability to rebound the ball. I am not so leery of that lineup, although I think it is far from optimal. The optimal lineup being, one of the other backup SG move in for Blake. While Blake has been doing a fine job at stopping lane penetration from SG types so far, he has not been challenged yet by a SG with size. Fortunately for him, OJ Mayo isn't a real big SG. So my guess is he does fine for tonight, although I believe Mayo already has a 40 pt game this season.

The 3 guards starting are close to being our 3 worst defenders, so how is that designed to stop dribble penetration?

Well, That does it. Jaynes for our next coach with Mixum as his assistant. Clearly the 3 guard lineup got fits from the dominant Conley-Mayo-Gay awesome threesome.

What a dumb-ass.

It almost never works when a columnist tries to become a basketball analyst...(*)

Should have really tried to become a GM like David Kahn - he would still be no good at it - but after Kevin McHale - even the wonderful 17 point-guards drafting GM looks OK.

Well the three guard line-up worked and they held a very potent offense to 30 points less than their season average. Good guess Jaynes, but you are wrong about this one. Keep i mind, it only worked well when Oden was in the game. So he may have a point.

Nate is flexible about using 3 guards. If Miller, Blake, and Roy are unable to stop dribble penetration, then we'll simply add more guards until there is no more penetration. I'd think 30 would be plenty under almost any circumstances.

Seems that Jaynes doesn't know shit. Same for like-minded fans in this thread.
