"Darron Thomas is the leader of this football team," Kelly said. "There is absolutely no question about it. He's as good as I've been around."

Nonsense, Coach.

Can't imagine former Ducks quarterback Dennis Dixon riding in a car that was street racing, as Thomas was with teammate Eddie Pleasant in 2008. Can't see former linebacker Casey Matthews riding shotgun with Jeremiah Masoli as he was pulled over and cited for possession of marijuana, but Thomas was there in 2010. Can't believe the 80-plus current Ducks football players –– guys who do the right things every day and never get written about -- being subjected to a lecture from a state trooper who asked Thomas and Co., "Who's smoking the marijuana?" during the traffic stop.

Good ol' Crapzano... trying to bring attention to himself and become part of the story... nothing new. If I ever give a shit about his opinion... someone please shoot me!

The thing I don't like about Canzano is that he seems to present himself as some sort of pillar of morality. Other than that I think his writing is decent though.

meh not too worried about what Canzano thinks it takes to make a leader. He is entitled to his opinion though.

He's free to say and question anything he likes. Kelly has made a strong stand in the past and not hesitated to kick high profile athletes off the team in the past when things were out of hand. I try to give JC as little of my time as possible, but that's just me.

JC isnt in the locker room, so he has no clue what kind of leader Thomas is or the respect his teammates have for him.

Take away his lies, innuendo, speculation, vanity and UO hate and the rest of his writing seems OK.

If you ever met the guy in person, you'd really really dislike him. It's not just a radio persona that he creates, he's actually a pompous asshole in person. He thinks he's the shit and he walks around like he's God's gift to sports writing.

Its not like Thomas led a team to the National Title Game as a sophomore or anything...

Lulz.

I hate the man and everything he's ever written, yet I cannot turn off his radio show. It's like the producer of his show has him on a choke chain but come six PM he runs off to the Oregonian to morally fellate himself.

I refuse to support the guy, and every time I've ever listened to his show (which isn't very much) he has been a complete moron.

Sorry, Mick - started a thread with Canzo's latest article. Didn't see you posted here. Sorry, man.

Chip is praising the efforts and productivity of FR. They are getting a lot of time from not just the staff, but the team leaders, like Thomas. The FR are shocking even Chip with how fast they are picking up the system, and Chip sets some high expectations. I credit great recruiting (talent and football smarts) and also guys like Thomas who are putting in a lot of time to lead and teach the new guys.

So far, I have seen nothing that would make one question Thomas' leadership. We could nitpick his associations and the situations he's found himself in, but that will come with maturity. His on field leadership is excellent. His poise last season, like MrJay said, as a first year starting SO QB in big games, was incredible.

@JohnCanzanoBFT
John Canzano Jordan Jefferson has stepped up as a leader w LSU football ... talking it on 750-AM now.

Classic Canzano right there. Writes an article blasting Darron Thomas for sleeping in a car, praises Jordan Jefferson as a "leader", and then BLAMMMMO, Wile E. Coyote style.

What an incompetent douche.

Agreed, Pop. I wasn't a pot-smoker in HS, but had good friends and cared deeply for a few people who did. I hung with them all the time, including when they were smoking. I'd like to think I was a positive influence on them. My parents knew about the situation and trusted me because I hadn't given them reasons for distrust.

Either has Thomas. Yup, he's been around guys who have done things they shouldn't - but, DT doesn't appear to be involved or a catalyst. Just seems like an all-around good kid, spending time with FR, keeping his grades up...

JC can be a real jerk....
