This is surprising to read, I thought it was more certain Grant would stay

Flight Risk: Medium-High

Jerami Grant turned 29 in March. This might be his last chance to strike it rich in free agency.

A slew of suitors could be in pursuit. He went from being perhaps underused in Denver to being a little overexposed in Detroit, but Portland provided a happy medium. He didn't have to create offense, but he could when he had it rolling. What resulted was his most efficient season as a volume scorer: 20.5 points per game on 47.5/40.1/81.3 shooting.

He also fits the coveted mold of a big-wing defender at 6'8" and 210 pounds and has a decent amount of flexibility on that end. He doesn't add much as a rebounder or distributor, but if he did, he might get annual consideration for the All-Star Game.

Players like him don't come cheap. It's up to the Trail Blazers to decide whether they're in position to justify a big contract for him. If they're trying to build a winner around Damian Lillard, then keeping Grant might be a no-brainer. But if they've taken things as far as they can with their long-time franchise face, then any type of future pivot would happen without Grant.

These national reporters aren’t reporting, they’re speculating for clicks.
How dare you impugn Bleacher Report!

Few teams are positioned under the cap to make JG a legit offer. Portland traded away a valuable asset to acquire him, one which I would have rather held on to. Pretty sure the decision to resign him was made prior to even dealing for him and he would have had to totally faceplanted this past season for them to change their minds.

If he leaves, he leaves. Honestly, he was kind of a disappointment for most of the season.

How great would it be if he left?
Dame may request out and then we can start building around Sharpe and the young players Dame would bring

It would be the death of the NBA for me....not something I want to experience...Sharpe didn't have Dame's rookie season...as a matter of fact he sucked the first half pretty badly. I don't want to be the old Kings in Portland. Dame is not replaceable.

You're comparing Damian as a rookie who was 22, and had played 4 years of college ball.

It's a safe bet to assume that Damian wouldn't have had Sharpes rookie year as a 19 year old with no college experience.

Your dreams of turning the Blazers into the Donald Sterling era Clippers would finally be realized.

sure....I'm comparing a rookie to a rookie ...how they got to the dance is another story but Dame came out of the gate as a franchise level star....Sharpe did not. Sharpe is really talented...don't confuse my comparison with that....I'd trade Sharpe all day long over trading Dame at this point in his career regardless...Dame would not have been the same 4 years earlier than he was when he got here and Sharpe isn't as good as he'll be 4 years from now....that's true. Sharpe sat out a year of college ball that he could have gained experience ...fortunately Dame will get to help mold Sharpe's career as a mentor. I want to see them play together at this point

Correct, but hypothetically, Tyrese Maxie is a great alternative. Portland would also have draft capital to fill the roster quickly

When you assume, you make an ass out of u, and me. Dame's a different breed.

what draft capital?

Philly has exactly 0 first round picks available right now. After the draft, the only first they'd have to trade would be their 2030 first. They don't even have a 2nd round pick till 2027

so essentially, you're advocating for Portland to trade Dame for Tobias Harris, Maxey, and a 2030 first round pick

c'mon man

Agreed.

I see him as a quality piece for any contending team. He’s our second best player. Is it even close?

Keep Dame and keep Grant.
First half of the year, second best player was Josh Hart - with Grant as a close 3rd.

Starting ~January, Grant's play dropped significantly. February, Hart was traded...

Im not sure there was a clear '2nd best' player in the second half of the season.

Second half of the season fell apart. Hard to accurately gauge anythin after the first 30-40 games in my opinion.

Dame still shined brightly the second half...

Point being- elite talent usually shines regardless of the situation. Role players are much more dependent upon situations.

Grant is a nice player, but he is definitely a role player

And worth a nice contract, but not a max deal IMO. I'm not sure there's another team that would pay Grant max money. I don't feel the Blazers should have to either.

Grant is a fun player to watch, looks forward the early vacation after the trade deadline.

Getting vets that don't chew out Simons and Little for missing defensive assignments, and are down with Cronin's midseason tank, is a very important part of team chemistry and top draft picks.
