If he wants paid its in Jimmy’s best interest to stop pissing off everyone he plays with. If he comes out of this next season only playing 65 games and a malcontent I think the amount of teams willing to give him that giant contract he wants will dwindle.

Brooklyn or New York still would. They're desperate for a player like that.

Don't get so defensive. You say you don't have much emotion invested sports anymore. I actually envy that at times. So I was surprised to see you say you were "tired" of things. Nevermind then.

To answer your question. The Blazers being mediocre and essentially making zero progress in three years has also had a major factor in me losing interest. It's not entirely their fault. The Warriors have made the league extremely uninteresting to me, as a whole.

With that said, my favorite time to be a fan was back in the Trader Bob days when he was wheeling and dealing and at least trying to put together a team that could win a championship. That's not what Neil is doing. Neil is treading water and hoping that one of his young guys turn into a star.

CJ is signed through the 20-21 season, which means we are roughly two seasons away from extension talks. CJ will be 29 during his final season of this contract.

The Warriors are one injury to Curry away from being mortal.

His 16-17 form the answer is yes.
His 17-18 form the answer is maybe.

At the end of the day he's locked up for another couple years.
Therefore there is no rush to trade him away for an injury prone, high milage, character issue, 30 year old supermax contract Jimmy Butler.

I'm not against trading CJ.
But it needs to be a nice deal with minimal risk.
As right now CJ has very few, if any negative traits about him.
(not injury prone, gets along with people, isn't aging, low milage, under contract, etc)

The issue is you have no way of knowing until 9 months from now.

Its not even that GSW are so good... I can handle that. It's the way an already historic 73 win team is able to sign an MVP. Jordan never would have signed with the Pistons/Celtics/Lakers/etc. Those teams never would have tried to sign Jordan. The way star players take less money to keep other teammates which in my mind is cheating. I enjoyed watching the Warriors team with Bogut and company develop from a lottery club to an unselfish contender. If they kept that core and were dominant it would be fine. But that core wanting to add Durant and him wanting to go to a great team really destroyed the NBA.

I have paid attention the last week with the Butler news... but outside of rare moments like this I have little interest in the NBA, Blazers, or sports anymore. Agree with much of what Nate has mentioned. Move on and enjoy other things in life that make you happy.

Nate- Zero progress??? 3 years ago, we were supposed to win 23 games. Last year, we won 49 and won the toughest division in the league. Yes, we flamed out in playoffs but “zero progress” isn’t accurate.

The union will never go for that. The union's job is to represent all the players, not just the megastars. You would greatly affect the amount of money 90% of the league would make.

I understand that Butler is a better player in a vacuum than CJ. I just don't see how it changes the team enough to justify the risks involved. If we win 53 games, and make the 2nd round, sure, he's likely to stay, especially when we max him out. But That seems like it's about the peak of that team, no? I don't see how a small upgrade at one of our best 3 positions elevates us from in the mix for 3-9, to maybe we get the 2 seed.
If we get Butler and keep CJ, though? I think that puts us solidly over Houston, and then WCF iis the expectation.

I see Butler as the starting 3, we have a lot guards theyd fill cj’s shows be committee. It would make our bench better by having Moe on the bench (if they can get him to buy into that role).

Butler fills up the stat box more than CJ and they don't even compare on the defensive side. That said, I think CJ would be even better apart from Dame if that were to happen....which I don't think it will.
