Jimmy Butler wants out? (He does.) (1 Viewer)

Not sure if this was covered in this thread but on local radio just now in LA they said a couple of things about it.
1) Butler can't stand Wiggins and Towns (and the feeling is mutual)
2) Towns won't sign his extension until they move Butler

Looking at Timberwolves roster I would want ET plus 2 cheap young players who have a ton of potential.

ET plus Simons or Trent (maybe both)
Although I would not give up both.

I’m not sold Collins is a ‘foundational’ player, but what do they do up front if they trade him? I guess Biggie and Nurk is about all they got?

Couldve had Alan Williams for free. Tarick Black just left for Israel and Lucas Nogueira for Spain. Those type of guys would be okay backups. Meyers is still here. Unfortunately. Quincy Acy. Joel Bolomboy for the Weber connect.

Most of all, I'd want to see Eric Moreland in a Blazers uni.

I really want to keep Simons long term, but if the Wolves offered Butler for ET, Simons, and Trent that is an instant yes and it would take a tenth of a second for me to call the league office.

In the end I would too. It might not seem like enough to get him, but I think it is fair. The key would be input from Dame. Does he get along with Butler? He if does then I make the trade and bring CJ off the bench. All three would finish games.

I thought KAT already signed his extension?

Aminu is better at the starting 4 short term, but Collins is the future. That's why I suggested offering Aminu instead of Collins.

I think MIN's ownership would prefer the younger Collins to pair with KAT upfront, but I think Thibs would prefer Aminu. The owners may give in on this one to compensate Thibs for losing his guy, Butler.

Hell, if we can get Butler without giving up C.J., just start C.J. at the 2 and Butler at the 3. Butler is 6'8" and easily capable of defending most SFs as well as anyone in the league.

It would be such a luxury to let all three play fewer minutes, yet always have at least 2 of the 3 on the floor at the same time. Play them each 32 - 33 MPG, but stagger their rest so 2 of the 3 are always on the floor.

BTW, this is a pipe dream, but a fun one, none the less.

I think Olshey and Stotts kind of want to keep Turner around and see how he can run the 2nd unit. They both have talked about he he will be used in a different way this season.

Yes, I'm sure that given the option to deal Turner and a couple other ancillary pieces for Jimmy Butler, Olshey would say, "Look, I really want to see how Turner plays this year with Curry and Stauskas. Thanks but no thanks."

Now... It is Neil Olshey we’re talking about... heh.

so Since the Blazers are in the same division, and likely won’t give up what Minnesota would want. Where do we think realistic landing spots are for him?

Jokes aside, I think Olshey would trade Turner for anyone in the league on an expiring contract if he didn't have to give up any future picks to do so. Getting out of Turner's contract and only having to include Simon and Trent for a bona fide star wing is an absolute no-brainer. Worst case scenario we shave over $20 million off our tax number next summer by not having Turner's contract or the two rookies.

The NW Division is so geographically fucked up and Thibs was in the Eastern Conference for so long between BOS and CHI, I'm not eve sure if he considers POR, two time zones away, a "rival" even though we are in the same division.

This thread is pointless... chicken shit Neil will never take a risk and make a major trade... he is happy being just good enough for fans to keep buying tickets... he will go down in flames with the McLillard combo

Brand new season, same old Gronk.

I think you’re right. It’s fun to joke about NO though.

Well if Boston is intending on keeping Kyrie long term, that might be an option. They said they want to play together and the Celtics have young defensive players that Thibs likes. Maybe Smart and Brown?

This is true but not really dealing guys nearly as talented as Butler.

When I loaded this all I saw was mason Plumlee says, and I was thinking is BNM gonna try to convince me Mason Plumlee is as talented as Butler???? Then the picture loaded and I laughed loud enough to distract my kids heh.

I always liked Plums' non-stop effort and his high BBIQ, but even I recognized his limitations, both physically and talent-wise. So yeah, not in the same class as Jimmy Butler.

Is it just me, or has Mase bulked up since the trade?

You're really using hashtags in a serious manner on a forum? Ugh.

It's true, Butler has played under a different coach in a different system most of his career. Thibs is a very different coach than Stotts. On that, we agree 100%.

Last year in MIN he wasn't really the #1 option. Wiggins actually averaged a faction more FGA/G and KAT was a very close third. For all practical purposes, in their system, they were 1a, 1b and 1c and whose number was called varied depending on match ups and situations. All three had comparable USG% rates (as did also Jamal Crawford), but Butler averaged significantly more assists than the others (and keep in mind, that an assists counts as a "used" possession) .

And that's what impresses me the most about Butler, he uses possessions very efficiently. It's been pointed out that he "only" averages 1 more ppg than C.J., but he does so on 3 fewer FGA/G while also handing out and additional 1.5 more apg. And, that's just the offensive end. When you also include Butler's defense, he would be a very significant upgrade over C.J. at both ends.

As far as playing under a different coach in a different system, Butler's last year in CHI, he played under Fred Hoiberg, whose coaching style/philosophy is more similar to Stotts than Thibs. Under Hoiberg, Butler had a career year, posting career highs in most offensive categories (ppg, rpg, apg, PER, TS% made 3FG, etc.).

I think Butler paired with Dame and Nurk gives us a much more balanced Big 3 than we currently have with Dame, C.J. and Nurk. It also gives us a much better defense.

I also don't believe Butler would be a 1-year rental. I think Damian Lillard is the type of focused, driven teammate Butler dreams of playing with. I think he would love playing next to Dame and would eagerly resign with POR.

And yes, Butler missed 23 games last year, but he has never had a serious, career threatening injury. Thibs has a well earned reputation for playing his starters too many minutes, and that leads to fatigue related injuries. Butler has been in the top 4 in MPG for the last five seasons in a row. Cut back on his MPG and a lot of those fatigue related injuries will likely disappear.

- Ok, so your 1st point is weird to me. By that logic Jamal Crawford was actually the #2 option while CP3 was the #3 option on the 2013-2014 Clippers and other over-confident players who get to shoot bricks > quality players who gets trusted at crunch time.
Wiggins was probably getting more shots because of "player development" considerations + his FGA average grew while Butler was hurt.

- I'm surprised you are so impressed by APG. That stat speaks more about the system and the team than the player's actual contribution.
Stephon Marbury averaged like like 8-9 APG in PHX and NY. Westbrook is averaging like 10+ APG for the past 3 years and his team's offense is looking pretty bad.
I'm sorry, but "APG" is garbage.

- I agree that Butler seems more efficient on both ends, but i think CJ is more creative offensively and that's a necessary ingredient on a team so devoid of talent.

- Criticizing Thib for playing Butler too much? We've watched Stotts do the same this year, Dame was 4th in MPG this year. God forbid he won't play the entire 1st quarter every night...
Stotts is probably starting to feel how his job is slipping away from him, he will run Butler to the ground just like Thibs did while Butler will be one year older and thus more fragile.

Butler isn’t coming but I still feel like we could get our hands on Wiggins.
