Whatever though. Keidis did the same thing.

Um, when? That's called skating. It's a singing style.

Meh, I was mainly arguing that the dude had a right to react against it. She was trying to get a cheap laugh by using a crappy joke about Asians and deserved to be called out for it. What I really disagreed with was the whole "minority's trying to use their status to get an advantage" statement. To be honest, I hate arguing about how something is racist, but I felt compelled to because I didn't agree with that. In the end, they're both dumbasses.

Mocking someone's speech patters in an stereotypical way is disrespect, so yeah it's a racist thing to do. I'm Irish and when someone says "lucky charms" or "potato famine" I just laugh but I think it is kind of racist. one time I was working with this Jewish kid and he said "how do you feel about the potato famine", like it was the best joke ever, I said "how do you feel about the Holocaust", his face went stone. "Not so good." he replied.

so yeah O'Donnell is ignorant and clowning someone's culture is racist

Ireland is not a race.

<div class="quote_poster">Voodoo Child Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">From what I heard, they weren't racist.

She was jokingly imitating the Chineese language by saying "ching chong ching chang," etc. That's her joking about a nation's language, not in any way disrespecting a race. In fact, to assume that a Chineese person could not be, say, Caucasian, is more racist than O'Donnel's comments themselves.

People just like to get sympathy and exploit their minority status for their own advantage too often.

Rosie O'Donnel is still a fat, annoying <font color=""Black"">cun</font><font color=""Black"">t</font> though.</div>
I agree with you totally, except for Rosie O'Donnell being fat and annoying. She's not really that bad.

<div class="quote_poster">NTC187 Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">I think what she said wasn't intended to be racist, but it was. Is Rosie O'Donnel a racist? No (well not that I know of), but her comments will definatley offend Asian people.</div>
Her comments were not racist, nor were they intended to affend.

It's the same thing as making fun of a Boston or British accent, or making fun of German (NEIN! ACHTUNG!) in that hard, sharp voice. Languages have certain sounds.
<div class="quote_poster">Voodoo Child Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Not really.

Look at this specific case.

O'Donnel stereotyped all Asians as speaking with the phonemes resembling the sounds "Ching chang chong, etc." That's a true, factual stereotype, and it has not basis on race.

Her point was completely, 100% to make referrence to the globalization of the show, not to insult a race.

Still not remotely racist...</div>

Thank you for mentioning the psycholinguistic aspects of it. It's nice to be reminded that there are some very educated people here.

I get pissed at people on this board all the time for racism and homophobia-- what Rosie did/said is not racist.

I guess I'm one of the few people that thinks people are reading a little TOO much into this...

<div class="quote_poster">Voodoo Child Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Um, when? That's called skating. It's a singing style.</div>
I just gave it another listen-through, and I was referring to the part towards the end when Kiedis says two lines of gibberish, "ding ding dong ching dong" w/e. Might not have been racist but could have been interpreted that way as well.

I know I know for sure

Lol, that's a vocal technique he's been doing since the late 70's bro'; he's not trying to sound Oriental.

Another thing I wanna know is..since when did we start caring about what Rosie O'Donnell says anyway?

I just posted this because the diss was weak.

Is that right.

Amazing the kind of **** you learn everyday.

<div class="quote_poster">Chuck Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Her comments were not racist, nor were they intended to affend.</div>

Well 2 Asian people so far (Jin & Locke) have found them to be racist. I personally dont care about the comments, I'm not offended by them at all, but I know Asian people will find them racist, as has already been the case.

I just love seeing Rosie get herself in a s***, lol, I'd milk these comments for all they're worth if I was Asian

I'm not offended, but I can see why some people could find it racist.

Just thought I'd clear that up.

Thats the way I look at it aswell.

<div class="quote_poster">Chuck Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">I agree with you totally, except for Rosie O'Donnell being fat and annoying. </div>Rosie O'Donnell is skinny?

<div class="quote_poster">44Thrilla Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Rosie O'Donnell is skinny?</div>

No, she's just not annoying. If you want to get into the semantics of it, what I said is still true.
