PORTLAND -- Former Oregon Ducks and Detroit Lions quarterback Joey Harrington was rushed to
the hospital Sunday night after he was hit by a vehicle while riding a bicycle in Southeast Portland.
According to Portland Police, Harrington suffered non-life threatening injuries when an SUV
driven by 26-year-old Derek Johnston hit him from behind at the intersection of SE Foster & 88th Avenue.
Police said that Johnston stayed at the scene of the crash and cooperated with investigators.
Investigators determined that Johnston was driving westbound on Foster when his Toyota RAV4 struck the back wheel of Harrington's bicycle. Johnston was cited for following too close.
Harrington who was a Heisman Trophy Finalist lead the Oregon Ducks to three bowl wins before heading to the NFL where he played for four teams in eight seasons.
