He would be a good fit. Probably won't be on the roster 3 years from now, but he's worth a shot.
 
Well, there's no doubt in my mind that Brandon endorsed him. Brandon has carried a lot of weight since joining the Blazers, so, I wouldn't be surprised if Brockman lands in Portland. I like him.

Hansboro or Brockman as a backup PF?
 
I'm all for adding hustle guys who rebound with a late second round pick, he might end up being a stiff in the NBA, but I'll bet you can throw him out on the court for at least five to ten minutes per game in certain situations and have him not embarrass you, I'd consider that $400,000 well spent if we pick him up in the late second round where we've got lots of picks.
 
After thinking about it, Jeff Pendergraph and DeMarre Carroll would be better options for 2nd rounders

Totally agree. I've already made my "bold" prediction in another thread when I said the Blazers lone pickup in this year's draft would be Jeff Pendergraph at 32.
 
His name ranks second on my list of "names-of-people-that-sound-like-they-could-fuck-shit-up".

First is Vin Diesel.
 
Jeff Pendergraph > John Brockman.

He did put up very solid numbers in the Pac-10, 15 ppg 12 rpg, but the guy is 6'8" with short arms and average athletic ability. If we get rid of Roy's best friend, Travis Outlaw, maybe snagging this guy in the second round would soften that blow. Who knows, maybe John can develop into a Najera type of player.
 
Brockman would make a good summer league, or training camp invitee. He's just not big enough to make an impact like a rotation player at the NBA level, although he works hard. He'd be worth using a late second-round pick on though.
 
Did Brockman get measured? I would assume, like other posters in this thread, that he's too small/stumpy to make a big difference.

Good college player who would be a good prospect if he were 2 or 3 inches taller. As he is? Meh. I doubt he'll be worth a roster spot.

According to his draftexpress profile he's 6'7" (w/o shoes) with a 6'7.75" wingspan.
 
I don't know anything about him, but he sure looks like a bruiser. I'd have no problem with Portland taking him in the second round.

You really think so? I doubt that Brandon Roy cares whether the Blazers draft a UW player or not. What he wants are better players around him so the team can win a championship. Even if the Blazers trade Outlaw, he and Roy will continue to be friends and hang out in the summers. I just don't think that getting a guy that Brandon can be friends with is that big of a priority for the Blazers.

Yep, that's what I believe. Brandon didn't want his shoot first ask questions later buddy Travis traded. I think Brndon likes people he is comfortable with. Drafting a 6'7" PF with a 6'7" wing span is dumb.
 
I cannot stand Brockman. He is one donut away from a triple-bypass surgery.

Brandon likes him because he's a Husky. Not because he's a talent.

I am not exactly a fan of Huskie players, but if you have seen him play you know he fits a certain role we need. He is a bruiser without being a stiff. A very good second round pick to sit on the end of the bench and wait for the coach to call his name and say "get in there and take a nice "clean" hard foul on Kobe". He is a tough kid.
 
and while we are at it let's draft Dentman, sign Bobby Jones and trade for lil' Nate....

Oh yeah....and sign Romar to be the coach...

Not until someone can objectively point out how the historical stat leader at a pretty decent Pac-10 university in a skill that almost universally translates very well to the NBA would be a bad idea, when this entire board is talking about guys like Millsap, Lee, Hayes, Maxiell, etc.

Put down the laundry hate. Look at the player.

he is slow, short for his position, with a short wingspan and not enough athletic ability to make up the difference...
 
He is taller than Blair, Millsap, and Craig Smith. I haven't seen his wingspan numbers, so you may be right. But with that short wingspan he averaged around 12 rpg over the last two years in the Pac-10. As I said, rebounding translates very, very well to the NBA.
 
Now now Brian, we already found our undersized PF for this year, it's Blair. It's funny how people hype up him, because of past misses like Milsap, Landry, Maxiell, etc. in the draft, and say omg, how can teams continue to pass on proven players who contribute in an area that translates over, and then, basically, write a guy off immediately while sayusing the same excuses that have been used over and over. Too short, skills won;t translate, etc..
 
I'd say it's b/c he's white and a Husky, but I don't think people have thought it through enough. :)

Seriously though, I just see a lot more intresting prospects at PF than Brockman, but if POR drafts him you have to bow to Pritchard\scouts expertise...at least until they prove otherwise....
 
I wouldn't mind seeing the Blazers use one of their four 2nd round picks on Brockman. Yeah, he's undersized for a starting 4 in the NBA, but he'll never be a starter (if he is, you've got problems). In fact, I wouldn't mind seeing the Blazers use 2 or 3 of their 2nd round picks on bangers, let them battle it out in summer league, training camp and preseason and keep the best of the lot (assuming, we don't trade those picks - or draft a back-up power forward in the 1st round).

Brockman was one of the guys I listed as a possible 2nd round pick in my Back-Up Power Forwards in the Draft thread. The other, Luke Harangody, has pulled out of the draft. DraftExpress currently has us taking power forwards at 33 (Viktor Claver) and 38 (Josh Heytvelt), with Brockman going 39th to to Detroit. With this many 2nd round picks, I view them like "extra credit". If you get one right, it can only help you. If you get it wrong, it's no big deal. It doesn't hurt you, or really cost you anything of importance. So, grab a few guys who look like they have a shot to fill a role off the bench and let them battle it out.

I really like this idea. Why not have a little bit of a battle-royale for a brutish position?

That is why the two other teams looking at him the hardest are San Antonio and Detroit. They both suck when it comes to player evaluation.
