Jordan Kent out, Calabro in talks to come back

according to Freeman, Kent is definitely out, but at this stage, it's only "mutual interest" in re-hiring Calabro

I really wish the Blazers didn't have a massive institutional fetish for all things Seattle

Why not? Seahawks and Mariners bombard us with their shit. Milk the market that’s near you that doesn’t have the sport

I think they forgot to add.."at the request of Lamar Hurd" to the title

I do not give a shit....I hate Seattle

and frankly, there are better play-by-play guys than Calabro all around the country. Besides that, somebody is going to have to prove that having Calabro as the announcer is going to increase revenue from the Seattle area. I don't buy that BS for a second. LOL...yeah, Seattle is filled with Calabro groupies with open wallets...what a crock

nobody has to prove anything....Calabro has a stellar rep as a broadcaster and there aren't many available as good as him....hating Seattle has nothing to do with it in my view...Calabro is a quality hire for the job.

no he's not

funny how opinions work

Calabro sucks...he just doesn't suck as bad as Kent

I’m just saying nobody cares about ties to Seattle and the hidden meaning to it.

I don’t blame the Blazers. There’s a market up north that’s HUGE with no NBA basketball I would do whatever it takes to cram our product down their throats to milk money out of it. Honestly they should do the same further north to Vancouver BC. And maybe even Boise. Saturate Blazer shit all over those cities and milk it.

That’s what Mariners and Seahawks do down here..
The Seattle fans I know gave no shits about us hiring Calabro and still hate the Blazers to this day. They literally followed OKC more than Portland.

I think the Blazers should hire Michael Buffer.

"LET'S GET READY TO DRRRRRRRRRRIBBBBBBBLLLLLLE"

not really, especially when it's tied to hating a geographical location...Kent sucks.....Calabro has been a national big game broadcaster for years.....doesn't matter if you don't like him...most people actually do like him...Wheels loves the guy and his recommendation is pretty well respected as well.

Actually I liked when the Blazers traveled the state to play preseason games.

I think a game in Seattle and Bend would be great for fans.
Not Seattle. I don't want anyone getting any thoughts unless there is another long term inescapable lease with Portland.

All over the state, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming... Sure. But not Seattle...

NBA wants a new franchise in Seattle.

I know, but damn. The NBA didn't want to lose the franchise in Seattle in the first place. sometimes billionaire owners get their way over the NBA.

I don't want to risk it without locking the Blazers in here contractually for decades.

The Blazers just cut a deal with Root that expands coverage into the Seattle area. I think having a play-by-play guy who is familiar to former Sonics fans, instead of an unknown Oregon Duck football guy, probably makes a ton of marketing sense.

STATEMENT FROM THE PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS ON BROADCAST TALENT

PORTLAND, Ore. (June 16, 2021)The Trail Blazers announced today that Jordan Kent will no longer serve as Television Play-By-Play Broadcaster. Kent started with the Trail Blazers in 2016 as Television Studio Host alongside Michael Holton, filled in as Television Play-By-Play Broadcaster during the NBA restart in Orlando in 2020 and was named Television Play-By-Play for the 2020-21 season.

“We’re extremely thankful for the hard work, dedication and passion Jordan has put into his roles with the Trail Blazers,” said Chris McGowan, President and CEO of the Trail Blazers and Rose Quarter. “He brought a wealth of basketball knowledge and experience to the organization and we wish him nothing but the best as he continues in his career.”

again... I do not believe, for one second, that casual fans will plan to watch Blazer games, when they wouldn't otherwise, because Calabro was the one jabbering the play-by-play.

I know....it's hilarious to me the reasons are offering for why Calabro should have another crack at the job

I'll say again: the heavy Blazer institutional bias for all things Seattle is not a good thing

Note that it’s the business side of operations that makes these decisions, not the basketball side. Expanding viewership is a hell of a good reason from a business standpoint.

Well, you’re welcome to your opinion. Obviously, the Blazers marketing people disagree.
