To me, Boone looks like one of those undersized bangers. Those guys always have a few good years, but injuries usually catch up with them and ruin promising careers. See Jamie Feick, Aaron Williams, Jason Collins, Jamal Magloire, Jayson Williams. I'm not ragging on him - all those guys had years which they looked very good (Magloire and JWilliams being All-Stars). I'm glad he's on the team now, but I wouldn't be eager to lock him up in a big money long term deal.

This is a great point here. Boone's extremely injury prone. Both offseasons, he's had injuries. That makes me really nervous.

Sometimes it's easy to forget how good he was in 2004-2005 while at UConn. He was Big East DPOY.

He's athletic, a solid defensive player, does all the dirty work for lack of a better term to make us a better team. We haven't had players like Josh Boone or Sean Williams for a while now, so it's very refreshing to see them both out on the floor. And when Krstic comes back 100 percent it's going to be even better, even if Boone was to be relegated back to the bench, he would only bolster our second unit, making him even more of a keeper.

The only thing I'm concerned about is how sometimes in college and his rookie year he would get so down on himself it would affect him out on the court. That and the injuries. Otherwise, I'm very high on him.

He still needs to learn to catch a damn pass. He has improved in this aspect of the game, but he still screws up a pass at least 3 times a game (granted 1-2 of those passes are from Kidd, so they may be a little unexpected). Also, there was a play yesterday where he made a great effort to get a defensive rebound by tipping the ball to himself. Only problem was, he couldn't catch his own tip, and the ball ended up going out of bounds, giving the Pistons another possession. Overall, though, he's improved his game drastically from last year. A lot more active, and a lot more confident (disregarding the free throw line).

I completely agree. Boone gives the Nets legit size and works well w/ a healthy Krstic and "The Big Three." He's showing a lot of improvements, but he needs to bulk up a bit more and stay confident.

Remember now: He's still young and has alot to learn. As good as you may think he is right now, he could become better. It takes time, experience...and staying healthy.

If he could learn all of the tools a big man needs on the offensive end, just imagine how good he'd be...I'd say 15-17 ppg is quite reachable by the end of his career, and that's pretty damn good for someone who's looked over as much as he is.

And if he could learn everything on defense, just imagine how good of a role player he'd turn out to be on a good team.

Every player in the NBA Can do something better. I know Josh is only going to get better, i am just mad and pissed cause he was called un-talented.

He is good right now but can be better.

Boone, i think at his peak, will be like Magloire in his prime but faster and lighter. I could definitely see him averaging around 14 and 10 numbers, but i dont believe he has the necessary skills to take himself to the next level. He could learn these skills, but most likely he will, as mentioned before, be a Magloire/ Aaron Williams type of player.
When he was drafted, I honestly thought he was not going to be at that type of level.

I think he will be a good starter, he has some skills and those he lacks are the easist to gain.

I dont think he is going to be like Mags i think he can be better.

I know he has to impove on some things, but as time goes i think he will do it and get better at it.

Honestly, this time he has recieved has been wonderful on Boone. Rather he goes back to the bench or stays a starter, I know theres GM's already looking at him for when he becomes a FA. He's going to be getting good money.

Truthfully i dont think Boone should go back to the bench, i think if he countines his play like this he should be reward and not demeoted to bench with 12 MPG.

I think he and Kristic should start with Swat and Collins off the bench.

Regardless of how I feel, I think that rotation seems probable based on how Frank favors boone over williams. However, what we should consider is the amount of progression that Sean makes in the time it takes Krstic to get back into game shape. It's still a very real possibility that Sean maintains a starting spot based on that, but that would mean that Krstic never returns to his former self.

Rebounding isnt exactly a skill per se... Jumpshooting, ball handling and shot blocking are. Kurt Rambis was not a "skillful" player but he was very effective because he simply wanted the rebound more than the guy he competing with.

Second of all that Jason Collins circa 2002 call is not that far off the mark. This was pre-vince however so a lot of you younger guys were still rocking out to the hamster dance, so the idea of an active Jason Collins may seem like chinese algebra to you... whatever. I am as anti collins as the next guy but he was very active and played with a similar amount of hustle as Boone with the same questionable handle.

Thirdly is it too early to proclaim Josh Boone a better player than Antoine Wright? Does he have a brighter future ahead? Im on the fence on that one but Josh does seem to be improving when it comes to reading the game. His awareness is 75% better than last year and he seems to be playing with a little more 'oomph' than last year too.

Man Id love Josh to be a good player... but I can only see his ceiling as 'Drew Gooden'... not sure if thats good or bad...

Honestly though When it comes time to resign Boone, how much will he go for on the Open Market since guys like Gooden, Wilcox and Nazr Mohammad were re-signed for chump change considering they start (in various amounts but its all the same) and they are all 6'10"+ which generally leads to an inflated pricetag...

Just thought I add some comments to a few of your statements...

1) If he had an IQ of 25 he wouldn't be able to type...let alone read anything anyone on this board posts...and yes I get that you wanted to throw an insult his way but I'm just saying if your gonna pawn yourself off as being of superior intellect you may want to come with a superior insult...just saying. Also you spelled realize wrong in the same sentence in which you insult somebody's IQ...thats ironic.

2) Rebounding is not a skill...only someone completely devoid of basketball knowledge would ever claim this. There is set motions, techniques and intelligence that comes with being an effective rebounder. If it wasn't a skill then players such as Jason Collins would be leading the league in rebounding instead of being one of the worst in the game. It's not just a product of effort...it takes skill. respect that.

3) Jason Collins circa 2002 wasn't even his best year...that would be 2004-2005 when he averaged a little over 6pts and 6 rebounds a game. Right now as a starter Boone is averaging 12/8...which are substantially better numbers...but I guess you can cite all of Collin's "little things" to defend your argument.

4) Antione Wright has never been a starter and he never will be (Yes he has started a few games due to injuries but that's not the same thing) Josh Boone is our best starting frontcourt player...I think it would be logical to say that indeed Josh is the better player. Wright is a bust. You can't call your starting Center in his second year a bust.

5) Do you have an equation to prove this or better yet a doctorate from MIT? For a pseudo intellectual I'm surprised by all these dumb statements you want to apparently make. How is he 75% more aware...show me a link, an article or a mathematical equation. Better yet...stop pulling shit out of your ass.

I am quite aware of all those points you just made, I am a stats guy too, but I talk on boards to have a laugh and a chat about something I love, not to dice it up into individual slides and bust out a microscope.

The Drew Gooden reference had nothing to do with his season averages... more his game to game variations on his stats. 20-8 one night then 9-6 the next. Of course you already knew that right...

Im just hoping he can be more consistant that Gooden, even if its only the same averages. In last years Cavs vs Wash series, Gooden was all over the place. A god one night and a towel boy the next.

When Nenad recovers fully, I expect him to start next to Josh. Right now, Josh is rebounding well, defending well, and is finishing down low. So until Sean surpasses him, aka rebounds better and defends better, he'll win the start over Josh Boone.

But with Nenad, I believe Frank likes to throw the ball to him down low, and establish a post presence early on....considering he's our best offensive post player.

Do you realize that realise is an acceptable spelling of the word? The z was added because of how it sounded in American English, and seeing as though DownUnder is Aussie, it would make sense for him to spell it with an S.

Josh Boone is a positive addition to the starting 5. He is a great deal less predictable than Collins, and is garnering the type of numbers I had hoped to see from Maglorie from the outset of this season. That being said, I feel that his rebounding numbers are at least 2-3 more than they would be if his hands were better and he could gather the ball, as opposed to his tip-tap sequences which can get him extra rebounds. It's not a negative, though, his energy is his key difference to Collins (not the usual 4-on-5).

In comparison to Collins, he's nearly on par with Collins in fouls drawn, except Collins draws charges, and Boone draws his fouls on offense.

If he could hit his ft's he'd be nearly dangerous.
