Re: Journalists at Sochi are live-tweeting their hilarious and gross hotel experience

I have some peeps over there and their Facebook and instagram accounts are loaded with shitty pics and conditions. Glad I turned it down more now than ever.

Tap water at one of the media hotels.

Just when you thought the two toilet stalls were bad they want you to wipe your ass then put the TP in a trashbin inside the stall.

With a warning not to wash your face with it, lol.

I don't know why, but I kind of like hearing about Russia failing.

When you put former communists in charge of "democracy," this is the result. A lot of the brightest minds from the USSR moved to the USA after they were able to do so. It's sad, but for former non-Russia countries like Lithuania and the Ukraine, it allowed their youth to leave that shit hole. One of my good friends left Lithuania at age 19. He and his Lituanian family never considered themselves a part of the USSR, and central planning has made the post-USSR a disaster.

Didn't you hear? 'Murica is worse, Russia is better.

Re: Journalists at Sochi are live-tweeting their hilarious and gross hotel experience

I wonder how a friend of mine is faring. His daughter made the US ski team and he had a hotel reservation for $1,000/night.

Re: Journalists at Sochi are live-tweeting their hilarious and gross hotel experience

Visiting athletes are being asked to go three-a-room with three single beds (cots?). One washroom.

Re: Journalists at Sochi are live-tweeting their hilarious and gross hotel experience

They showed the hotel rooms booked for the hockey players (non-Russian). Three single beds with two night stands between them. Working bathroom? Maybe, maybe not. Welcome back to the juniors, millionaires.

What about the Olympic Village? How does that compare to the hotels?

I bet the escort business in Sochi is booming.

That's how they do it in Mexico. In Japan, half the bathrooms (esp outside the major areas) are just holes in the ground that you shit in.

So you've watched Idiot Abroad?

I've only seen a picture of the room but the games are a few days away and I'm sure we're going to see a lot more. From what I'm reading infrastructure issues in the city are preventing hotels from being completed. I know the US Olympic team had large numbers of cancellations for non-athletes in the last month or so--this was expected.

Interesting.

Thirsty? Here is some piss.

Enjoy.

Re: Journalists at Sochi are live-tweeting their hilarious and gross hotel experience

You don't gotta lie to kick it.

Those squat toilets terrify me. I had to use one of those on a train before. And in many times they don't really provide toilet paper in public facilities.

Re: Journalists at Sochi are live-tweeting their hilarious and gross hotel experience

The Montréal Olympics in '88 were also plagued by budget overruns and contractors fleecing the city and yet the Village was so nicely appointed that the accommodations were re-purposed into apartments that people are still living in today. My great grandmother lived rent-controlled in one for decades.

We're talking about roughly 3000 athletes this time around. They need space for all of them plus coaches, trainers, and so on. I hope (at the very least) the athletes are taken care of.

I can't wait to hear how fucked the World Cup is going to be in Brazil.

I shit so much, I'd probably carry around one of those fold-able squatters every where I went. Along with some quality TP.

These are typical mid level accommodations in Europe. They also have a lot of doubles/triples. I see a bunch of spoiled journalists on expense account having to live like the rest of the world.

The common areas and the areas in and around the village are supposedly pretty nice, except for the things that aren't finished.

That's fine if that was what it was billed as but Russia has spent $51 billion on these games, they've hyped this up to be the greatest and most extravagant games ever. So far it's a hilarious and epic fail.

Re: Journalists at Sochi are live-tweeting their hilarious and gross hotel experience

European hotels are a step down but these athlete accommodations are just rooms with (single) beds. I don't think it is unreasonable to expect a desk or table or the slightest bit of decoration. The size of the rooms suggests they might've originally had bigger plans for them (kitchenettes, dining tables, sofas?) that were scrapped.

As for CNN not getting the 11 rooms they booked I'd file that complaint under who cares?
