Jrue Holiday trade ideas (1 Viewer)

This would really depend on whether or not we extract anything more than a 1st from both teams, because the selection of young guys they’re willing to give up are kind of doodoo.

If both teams offered 1 unprotected 1st AND 1 unprotected swap, okay now I might be interested.

From Clips: ‘28 unprotected and ‘27 unprotected swap

From 6ers: ‘30 unprotected, ‘29 unprotected swap

This makes the most sense. Both teams would really want this to work and hopefully would give us a lot!

I would counter with "This makes no sense"
I tried numerous scenarios and the salary coming back to Portland is either not realistic or not attractive.
Someone give me one that makes sense.

Can we send Jrue's 35 somethig mil without us taking equal $$ back? I mean can we get a high upside young player on rookie scale plus 3FPs for example?

Would want two first round picks from each club, then take filler back from LA, probably Morris, Covington and Batum if we were willing to take extra salary, otherwise substitute
Coffey in there.
That’s overly optimistic. I think you could realistically think the 6ers would do an unprotected 1st + an unprotected pick swap + 1 second. Unless Embiid comes out saying “Holiday here or I leave”, I don’t think we could get Harden AND 2 1sts back.

Clips have said they are willing to part with 1 but not 2 1sts. If Clips were willing to give up a 1st and also the ‘24 TOR 2nd and their ‘29 2nd, I’d take that as well for Harden.

Hope to be wrong, just don’t think it’s realistic.

Clips get Harden. I think both clubs desperately need to do this and will pay up.

I feel like Jrue for Lowry(salary match, expiring), Jaquez or Jovic, and two unprotected future first round picks will work.

Miami will be one of the best defensive teams in history and prevents Jimmy Butler from requesting to be traded to the Heat.

Not sure if either club is willing to give up a good young player; I think this would be picks only.

The salary can all be expiring if that's what Portland wants.

I was listening to Zach Lowe and he said those two Clipper pics are very valuable because this team is old and will most likely suck in the future.

and this factor: is Ballmer the type of owner with a lot of money who makes bad decisions?

I'd like a pick or two, but I'd probably sacrifice a pick for a good young prospect. I don't think the Clipper have any

Big news--Fanspo is now updated with the Dame trade.

Ben Simmons just emphasized last week that he is a point guard.....and on offense he probably is. (Defensively he can guard pretty much anyone) So would they trade for Jrue without including Simmons? Seems like they need Dinwiddie more.

Man, it would be nice to have Nico back. Not the best player, but a good French-speaking role model for Rupert and Camara. Gives us a length we do not possess at the three.

I want nothing to do with RoCo. He absolutely tanked it when he came to us.

I assume we would just waive him. Unless we could find someone to take him for a smaller contract.

I dunno? Do they expect Simmons or Dinwiddie to be more likely to contribute to wins? I'd think Simmons does more. But hell, I'd gladly take Simmons instead of Dinwiddie/O'Neale, as long as the picks/ prospects came along with him.

From the Athletic today:

Katz: It would take more than just Barrett. And any team after Holiday has to be urgent.

Based on conversations I’ve had with league sources, I wouldn’t be surprised if a Holiday trade happened soon. Training camp begins Tuesday. There is a world where Holiday never even arrives in Portland.

This is not a stale name that’s been on the market since the beginning of time. Teams had 47 years to talk themselves into and then out of and then into again and then out of again John Collins or Myles Turner. Meanwhile, Holiday just popped up as available five minutes ago. There is a sort of excitement that comes around the league with that.

But other competitive offers aren’t the only reason a trade would take more than Barrett (as well as Evan Fournier to make the money work). You mentioned the Knicks’ long-term plans, but I’m not sure how Barrett would fit into the Blazers’.

They just drafted Scoot Henderson, a physical, explosive point guard with all the talent in the world and who could become a star, maybe quickly. But if Henderson has a flaw, it’s the jumper. Portland wants to surround him with shooters, so he can have space to bash. But Barrett is a slasher, too. And with Deandre Ayton in the middle, the pipes could get clogged.

So there must be more. The Knicks have all of their first-round picks moving forward, as well as four protected ones from other teams. If I’m New York, and I’m making a play for Holiday, I’m doing whatever I can to make sure the picks I’m offering are soon.

...

That’s one of the reasons we keep mentioning Barrett, instead of Grimes or Quickley, as the young player who would make the most sense in a hypothetical Holiday trade. Barrett’s new, nine-figure contract kicks in this season. Pair him with Fournier, who makes $18.9 million and expires next summer, and the financials work.

But Quickley and Grimes are on cheaper, rookie contracts. Neither DiVincenzo nor Josh Hart is trade-eligible at the moment since they both signed new contracts with the Knicks this summer. Switching Mitchell Robinson for Holiday makes no positional sense without another move in conjunction. Isaiah Hartenstein’s and Fournier’s salaries don’t come close to making the math work. Julius Randle and Brunson wouldn’t be part of the deal.

So, in some ways, it’s Barrett and picks or no deal at all, even though that leaves the Knicks, a team with two centers, a conventional power forward and a bunch of guards, even further from employing a rangy wing that they (and every other team in existence) need.

I really think we can get two picks from each club. Both want to win right now. Philly would be getting rid of a negative asset because he doesn't want to play there and getting a really good replacement. LA has two great forwards but desperately needs a PG. In Harden, they get a top 10 offensive player (when he is playing where he wants to be.)

Barrett would be awful.
