I hate people who say things like "imagine what Michael Jordan would've scored in today's game" -- but on the other hand, imagine what Michael Jordan would've scored in today's game. We've entered an era in the NBA when the scores are ridiculous. A team has scored over 150 points IN A NON-OVERTIME game. Players are getting triple doubles like they're handing them out like popcorn. Harden is shooting more FTs than WILT CHAMBERLAIN. Do you honestly think he's getting fouled more than a guy who was approximately twice as tall and three times as strong as everyone playing him (and who notoriously couldn't shoot FTs)?

I mean, I know people got a bit fed up of the Wrestlemania of Knicks vs. Heat in the '90s, when scores in the 70s were not uncommon, but I just think we've gone too far the other way. (Incidentally, it was in the 90s when Jordan was averaging 30+PPG. I think that would translate to 40+ in today's game, especially if he was put at PG like Harden. Although his midrange game would be very unfashionable...

Bring back handchecking and let players play physical defense for a change....ticky tac fouls are inflating score...you can't make teams pay for driving in the lane....everybody gets an and 1.....some guys are living at the free-throw line....Harden pads his scoring at the line ...sometimes shooting a ridiculous amount of free throws. Refs are protecting volume scorers unless they are from Portland

I couldn't agree more. Its like why tune in until the last 30 seconds anymore. See who makes the final shot and that's your winner. Defense has been so hamstrung that the game is so off balance, we are now seeing what we are getting(in your description).

It used to be a double digit lead meant you have the game all but won, but in today's offensive game a 20 point lead isn't safe. Some consider it exciting. I consider it unbalanced.

Melo commented on how the game has changed this season...when asked why he said they aren't allowing you to play physical defense...you can't touch anyone anymore..when Melo complains about defense the league probably has an issue

I've always questioned some of the assist stats. I've seen players credited with an assist in the halfcourt offense when they pass to a guy around the 3 point line who dribbles 4 or 5 times into the paint, makes a spin move, 2 pump fakes, and then makes a fade-away jumper 10' jumper. Seems like somewhere in there the shooter went into iso-mode

It's well known that it's much harder to get an assist in Europe. Also, the Utah scorekeepers were infamous for inflating John Stockton's assists back in the day.

I was just listening to Bill Simmons gushing about Luka and how his numbers are better than most of the all time greats at his age.

It was really annoying because LeBron for example could never average those numbers when the final score was something like 77-74.

I wonder if the the stuff about Stockton and Utah scorekeeping was more fiction than fact. I remember looking at it a couple of years ago thinking it was fiction. I just went to bbref and looked at 8 or 9 years of his home/road splits starting in his first season averaging double figure assists

he had a couple of seasons when he averaged around 2 more assists at home, but for the most part, he averaged around 1 assist more at home. I'd say most teams play better and shoot better at home and that was especially true for those Jazz teams back then. So him averaging 1.0-2.0 more assists at home seems like it could be the Jazz just playing better in SLC

for instance, in 1989-90 when Stockton averaged 14.5 assists, the Jazz made 2.5 more baskets and scored 7.4 more points in Utah than on the road. That right there would explain Stockton averaging more assists in SLC

This is my, Im officially old thread. Its the most, “Get off my lawn!!!”, thread ever and I’m agreeing with all of it.

RIDONCULOUS!!

Are Doncic's stats juiced? Cuz he's exceeding Lebron's career offensive stats in almost every category. His rebounds & assists are off the charts, and considering the volume so is his efficiency. The guy's a freak of basketball fundamentals. He will probably improve his free throws, three pointers, and turnovers over time as well. Good thing "Zack" is close behind. :)

He's the real deal

It's borrrring. Games used to have structure during the 48 minutes, like novels. I make fun of board moderators, but the real reason I post much less now is the game itself. This board has excellent ownership and moderators, but it sells a defective product---this decade's NBA style of basketball. With so little sport in the game content, I have to make sport of the board itself. The messenger becomes the message. But I'm not the only one:

When critical reviewers evaluate a video game, they divide it into gameplay, art, user-friendly interaction ease of the mechanics you do to play the game, etc. NBA gameplay is so boring that half the posts here are about message board personalities and its mechanical processes.
