I think the Republicans are really playing with fire here. Maybe they think they have nothing to lose given that things are going so badly for them already.
They are already in danger of losing the presidency by a landslide due to poor candidate selection. Now they are doubling down on partisanship and obstructionism. The trouble with that strategy is Republicans typically benefit from low voter turnout, not high voter turnout. And this issue will almost surely increase voter interest in the election.
A lot could happen, and probably will, between now and November. But right now it seems unlikely this will end well for the Republicans.
