I fail to see any logic connecting your opinions that you’re not sure he will be impactful and he should wait until next year. If he’s healthy, he should play. The more he plays, the more likely he is to be impactful by the playoffs, which is when the team could really use him.

healthy is one thing but he hasn't played real games. why risk injury? nurk is prone to injury. clearly.

Did someone say this, or you're posturing?

he's reacting to that tweet that quoted Stotts as saying Nurkic hasn't worked out since the calf strain. He's going to need to get at least a couple of weeks of full workouts in before returning. If he's not working now, and Stotts says he isn't, then he might not be practicing till after the all-star break...then add a couple of weeks

like others have said, a lower calf strain is a worrisome injury because it's connected to the Achilles. It would be stupid to risk Nurkic's health for an 8th seed in the playoffs. If he does return in March, I'm going to be nervous as hell every time he steps on the floor

I think that the Blazers will handle Nurk pretty carefully, but I'm also pretty confident that they have plans for him to play this season. Otherwise, he'd be off hitting the Mediterranean beaches for the winter instead of watching games in Portland. I'd say a couple of weeks after the All-Star break is a pretty good estimate, but I'll rely on the Blazers' staff to figure out what's best instead of message board MDs.

Bummer. If he doesn’t come back til mid March, that’s not enough time to be ready for playoffs. Look at how rusty Oladipo has been.

But do the Blazers have a top level medical staff as good as this forum?

What is the point of rushing it? This team may make the playoffs. Maybe. Why put Nurk at any risk just to hopefully make the playoffs? Adding Nurk won't make this team a contender. I just don't see the point when you look at risk/reward.

can't stay healthy.

There is literally nothing new in what Stotts said other than that Nurk hasn't been practicing. No new injury. They're just taking their time with it. With the All Star Game break coming up, why would they push him to practice until he's 100%?

I totally agree with this.
I also am getting tired of worrying about Jusuf Nurkic and his health.

I think that the team is perfectly capable of catching the Grizzlies for the 8th seed with or without Nurk. I've seen nothing that indicates that the team isn't being completely cautious in their handling of his comeback. He'll play when he's healthy and can practice at full strength for a couple of weeks. I don't think that there's any reason to think he won't recover from a mild calf strain in time to contribute by the playoffs, but we'll just have to see how his body responds to an increase in activity after the ASG.

Doesn't really seem to matter any more. Nurkic gets hurt.

A lot of players get injuries like these when coming back from a major injury, not just "injury prone" players. I think Nurk has been gone through a few injuries in his career but I'm not ready to say he's Greg Oden. Broken bones heal stronger and calf strains don't linger forever.

This would get me so much more excited if Stotts hadn't just said that Nurk hasn't practiced in 10 days.

Olshey said he was day to day in his deadline interview. If he makes the practices after the break I wouldn’t be surprised if he played next weekend, or shortly after.

Remember the year we traded for Jusuf? He played a few games before the break and then stayed in Portland over the week to train with the staff. He came out of that break a beast.

Would be really cool if he could slowly ramp up workouts this week and next. Still, a side of me doesn't want him to come back at all this year, so he takes his time for next season.
