...this why I don't agree with betting the future exclusively on the youngsters...we're gonna need a balance of experienced players as well as young ones...holding on to every prospect simply because they are "projected" as possible future players doesn't make as much sense as pulling the trigger on a trade that garners an already proven player.
...I still think the Yanx should have and still should make a play for Quintana. Yeah, yeah, I know he had a bad first start...but every pitcher has those kinds of days and over the last 5 years he's been one of the best and most consistent pitchers in the game.

agreed, waiting for prospects on the mound is more likely to occur yrs down the road....and we need seasoned vets on the mound, now... Quintana had a bad game, like you said, he's one of the better consistent SP's of the last 5, exactly what this team needs. Imo, these prospects need to play behind a proven SP, otherwise it may all be in vain, ...
Guess what I'm trying to say, is: no prospect want's to take the field with a rookie SP on the mound, unless that Sp is a Doc-K as a rookie.... A Fernando V....et al.

^^^ yeah, I'd much rather trade a youngster who may or may not pan out in the future in return for an already proven player who can make an impact now.
That works both ways if you remember the buhner for phelps trade. Yanks are not in a position to win this year period. Theres no reason to start trading chips if we do at all till the next postseason when we can reevaluate what we have and see what free agent pitchers they make a play for if any. And I'm still leery of cashman being the one dealing our chips!!This season should be spent dealing the rest of our veteran anchors eg, gardner, headley, ells bury, pineda and cc and acquiring more young pitching where they can.

...^^^as far as pitching, waiting for the off season is the wrong strategy to take IMO because there will be a lot of competition for viable FA front end starters next year, and currently, the Yanx have neither a #1 or a #2 starter under contract for next near...IMO, conceding this year is one thing, but if they get a chance to acquire a quality front end starter this year such as Quintana, they'd better do it.
...the Yanx have multiple players who are still prospects and who have little chance of ever making the big league team anyway because the positions are already filled...hell, I think they have 3-4 SSs alone...to me it makes sense to trade some of them while they still have value.
