Katie Shearer died at 3:12 a.m. on Sunday. She wore a sweat-drenched shirt. And her mother held her, kissed her, and took a small cloth and soaked up one last tear that ran down Katie's cheek.

Katie, 24, was a Trail Blazers fan. She also had malignant melanoma, and I wrote a column about her that ran on Christmas Day. She'd spent two years in pain. She'd had surgeries to remove the lymph nodes in her groin, and another to remove a piece of her intestine, and tumors were carved out of her body.

She'd had radiation treatment, and immunotherapy, and been part of an unsuccessful clinical trial. In the last few weeks her abdomen had become so rife with tumors that it was rock hard. And so, on Christmas Day, she didn't wish for an iPod, or jewelry as a gift, but just one more good day to spend with family, friends. And, also, she wanted to see the Blazers play.

She got that wish..........

She would have suffered much less if she had pot. The medicine prescribed by doctors usually do more harm than good for people in her situation.

For those of you who missed Katie on Canzano's show a couple weeks ago, take a listen. She was on his radio show for a full hour, and she took calls. Most of the time, I hate it when sports radio shows veer off of sports, but this was an exception. This was a great hour of radio, and it was truly an inspiration to hear this young woman talk about her situation. What an absolutely articulate, intelligent lady. Amazing how she maintained such a positive attitude, even in her final days.

What a sad day. I'm glad she is no longer suffering, but I also can't help but think how she missed out on so many things.

Really? This is your post in this thread? (edited- I just won't say it)

I loved the Canzano piece on Katie Shearer. I hope that she and her family are at peace and they enjoyed their lives together until the end, which it sounds they did by Canzano's first-hand account.
 
Who moved this thread about a BLAZER FAN who had as a LAST WISH to watch the Blazers in action?????

Stupid freaking move.
 
Seems likely that an out of state mod made this move.

A mod who doesn't read the local paper, perhaps?

RIP, KATIE SHEARER. I wish I had the privilege to treat you and your family to a Blazer game.

Plenty of threads are not moved that have less to do with the Blazers than this one.

I just want every BLAZER fan to know the story of Katie Shearer, that's all. Very few people visit the OT forum, so more would know about her life if it was kept on the main board.
 
That's a sad story, and I'm glad to Canzano was able to make the story known. I'm happy to see that she got to experience her last Blazer game, and even though they lost on Christmas day (which I think is the game she went to), I'm sure she enjoyed it more than anything.

RIP, Katie.

Exactly, and not a single mod has PM'd me or answered in public why this thread dedicated to the TRUE fan of the Blazers was moved.

I'm listening to the hour right now, and it's crazy to think about that she's not here anymore. She sounds healthy and good, and just has such a positive attitude with everything. She is an inspiration for sure.

And I'd have to agree this is a Blazer-related topic... she was a true fan, the entire team took interest in her, took care of her for that one game, and it was the first thing Nate addressed in his post-game presser after Saturday's game.
 
Move this thread back to the Blazer forum, "Global Mods". Or don't, and lose your credibility.
 
Rest in peace Katie, and I'm sure you are a bigger Blazer fan even after life than the moderator of this forum who decided to move your thread.
 
I agree this should be moved back to the main forum. This is a story about a Blazer fan, and she means more to the organization and the fans than Sebastian freakin' Telfair, who has a thread on the main page that wasn't moved.

Ok, I agree with you about the importance of the thread, this person, and the inspiration she gives others from her fight. BUT dude, you really need to stop your personal crusade against the moderators. It's like your always trying to start a war with them and turn it into the next BBF drama. I like your zesty personality, fightin 'the man', but dang dude ;):devilwink:

I admit, it pissed me off that this thread alone was moved while others that have literally nothing to do with the Blazers this season stay on the main board.

That said, I'm over it. I can't blame mods that live outside of the Portland area for not being up to date on current events and how they relate to the city and team.
