ESPN reporting that an unnamed, 25 y/o Chiefs player committed suicide at the stadium this morning, and a woman was found dead at his home.

ESPN said:
An unnamed Kansas City Chiefs player has committed suicide at the team facility and authorities are on the scene, the police confirmed to ESPN on Saturday morning.

Local reports say police are operating with the belief the player fatally shot his girlfriend at a house before driving to Arrowhead Stadium and killing himself at around 8 a.m local time. The Associated Press reported the player's age to be 25.

"We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning," the Chiefs said in a statement. "We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."

There were no other injuries at the team facility, police said.

The Chiefs (1-10) were preparing to host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

Jovan Belcher.
very sad.

Wow. I wonder if it's concussion related, or drug related. I know that the concussions these players get have a negative effect on their brain chemistry. Or if maybe he showed signs of this in other areas (violent background, domestic violence, etc).

Jason La Canfora ‏@JasonLaCanfora KCPD Officer Darin Snapp confirms GM Scott Pioli and Coach Romeo Crennel were outside team facility at the time Chiefs player killed himself

Jason La Canfora ‏@JasonLaCanfora
KCPD say the player thanked both men before taking his life, and that Pioli and Crennel did not feel threatened. KCPD not revealing identity

Chiefs are shocked, Belcher had no history of anything like this, seen as a good kid, close to Crennel. he recently had child w/girlfriend..

Belcher and his girlfriend, 22-year-old Kasandra M. Perkins, had been arguing recently. The two of them have an infant child.

Oh god.... that's the worst part.

First, what a senseless and terrible tragedy.

Now, I'll probably get ripped for saying this, but I'll bet you her family sues his estate and takes all his money for themselves leaving spit for their child. It would just figure in this country.

Kind of a bold statement about people you don't even know.

Actually, I'll be surprised if her parents don't end up raising the child.

^ Again, the psychological effects of repeated brain injuries are mysterious even to neurologists, if that is a major factor, so perhaps we shouldn't be so quick to judge.

All the gun control wackos are coming out of the woodwork over this, as if guns had anything to do wiith it.

It's only a matter of time until the NFL will be forced by legislation to play flag football, solving the problem.

...or go back to leather helmets and minimal padding, then everyone wins!

Bob Costas is on the Dan Patrick show right now, talking about his Sunday night commentary on how "if he hadn't owned a gun, he and his girlfriend would still be alive".

EDIT: Apparently Costas was paraphrasing Jason Whitlock with that line.

A selfish murderer and a selfish coward.

I actually had a friend that did something like this. I was so pissed at him. He had this long engagement with this woman and she broke up with him. She had a 12 year old son. He was depressed for 5-6 months; calling me almost everyday.

Then one day, he calls me and tells me he can't take it anymore. I told him not to do something stupid. He said he wouldn't. About 2 hours later; his brother calls me and said that my friend went to the park; where his ex was watching her son play baseball. Came up behind her and shot her 3 times in the back. He ran off; then about 30 ft. from the incident; he shot himself in the head.

All I could think about was why the fuck did that 12 year old have to witness his mother get killed right in front of him. FUCKING DISGUSTING!

One of my former boss's committed suicide. He was relatively young.....early 40's. Had a wife and two small children. Shot himself in their bathroom. They were left to witness, then clean up the mess. I'm, like, dude, at least go out in the woods if you're gonna waste your life. What a selfish act.
