It's very simple. It's Mixum. If 99.9% of sports reporters say the Blazers are a playoff team, only the 0.1% who say otherwise are worth quoting. Mixum has gone from critic to the shadow world of deniers.

It's why I also ignore. I occasionally look at replies. But I can predict every post:

The Blazers suck. Everyone in sports who says they are on the right track is stupid. Every critic is spot on. Their loss proves they are terrible. Their win was useless. Every players is useless. KP, Nate and Paul Allen suck. They must make a trade yesterday. Every trade they make is terrible. The players they drafted suck. The players they did not draft are great. The players for whom they do not trade are great. The free agents they sign suck. The free agents they don't sign are great. The Blazers will not make the playoffs. If the Blazers do make the playoffs they won't advance. If they advance they won't win a championship. If they win a championship they did not sweep. If they sweep the games were too close. If the games were blowouts the team was disgraced because the opponent's dance team was prettier. The world is flat. Everyone who says the world is round is stupid because Mixum knows the world is flat.

Have I left anything out?

That pretty much sums it up. You left out the bit where Jesus only walked on water when he could have flown, and turned water into wine, when whiskey would have packed more punch.
 
Well, around this time last year during our 13-game win streak, I remember Kenny Smith predicting we would make the playoffs and we didn't. Now that he predicts we won't, I fully expect us to make it.

That's because I'm Jewish. But I could have mentioned that dumb Moses only brought back Ten Commandments when he could easily have asked G-d for 20. The Commandments really suck, just think of all the good commandments Moses could have brought, but no, he had to bring this stupid list!
 
All I know is it will be fun to watch. We could be 7-8 games up on the last spot and still not make it if we start playing like crap. Only thing we can do is play 100% all the time.

Yea well that is what happens when you eat rotten rhye bread, hallucinate that you talked to a burning bush, and then write down what the bush said to you on stone tablets. It ususally doesn't turn out too well, although it probably seemed really cool at the time. But what doesn't when your high. :devilwink:

You've got your Bible history mixed up. The burning bush did not give Moses the 10 Commandments. Moses was not "high" either, though I think a few people who have tried to rewrite the Bible were definitely on some kind of drug.

They were on stone tablets, and he had to carry them down the mountain. It's surprising he didn't discard more than he did.

Probably in a ravine somewhere there are another 90 stone tablets with the other commandments on them.

No, I am not mixed up, I just don't know any of it at all, because it is worthless. Unfortunately the only parts of it I know, are from those cheesy Charleton Heston movies that I would happen to channel surf by on the way to watching something worthwhile.....

Sure it is. We have 4 rookies playing significant minutes. And we have three 3rd year players playing significant minutes. And NONE of them have any experience playing meaningful playoff-deciding games in April. Nash/Shaq/Amare have been there before. Kidd/Dirk/Terry have done it before- in fact, all three of them have been to the Finals- Kidd TWICE!) Utah is two years removed from the conference finals. And here's the sad truth: we are 1-5 against those teams. Don't mean to be a downer but making the playoffs down the stretch will be a MAJOR mental test for a bunch of guys who aren't used to it (though Outlaw should have no problem; he's immune to pressure).

So, even though the Blazers aren't currently playing their best ball, the teams we are fighting against to make the play-offs aren't gaining on us. They are actually losing ground.

Yea, but at some point, some of the teams are going to make a push and go on a winning streak. We need to be one of those teams.

I'm not really expecting a first round miracle, either. The playoffs really are a different animal. I will just be happy trash-talking an opponent for a week or two for the first time in a long time.

if the blazers don't make it, it will be because they aren't good enough not because they aren't old enough.

First off, let me say that I think they will make the playoffs.

But back to the argument....

If the Blazers aren't "good enough," don't you think it might be because the players have no experience playing in pressure games against veterans?
 
Let me say it better....

Time has shown that players get BETTER as they grow into the league. Brandon Roy is, for instance, a much better player than he was last year just as Chris Paul was a much better last year than he was the year before. Part of being "good enough" is growing INTO being "good enough." So in the case of our players, "not good enough" could go hand in hand with "not fully grown yet." Just wait til next year and the kind of statistical production we'll get out of Oden once he's played a full season against all of the bigs and has had time to learn how to play against them and then you'll see what I mean.

no, i really don't think so. if the blazers fail to make the playoffs this year, i think it's just because they weren't as good as we thought they were. i don't think it will be because they have to lose those type of games first to game experience before they are able to win them.
 
Totally irrelevant to the thread, but what the HELL happened to the board? I had to sign in again. I have a poll about what car I (don't) Bunch of previews top, left, right, that I don't want. Can't start a new thread to ask what is going on.

The board is totally completely unreadable, I clicked on a random thread. Someone please let me know if/how I can restore original settings or I am permanently off the board. I literally cannot read any thread.

Thanks, barfo, I figured it out. I have the page bookmarked and got the weirdness. I went back to sports forum and followed the links, then re-bookmarked. Seems OK now. Sorry to interrupt this intellectual thread.:cheers:
 
FWIW- I tired to log in as I usally do and got some funky page on this site. I clicked on an Orlando post and that brought me to the NBA (above) and got back here.

So I too experienced something out of the norm today.

My guess is it has something to do with that big advertising banner above. S2 has gone commercial . . . I would like to think this board (Blazers) is what drew advertisers. :dunno:
